Hi, I'm Dianne
I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Connecticut but raised Catholic, left that church at 18 and now I'm a convert!
About Me
I'm not a typical Mormon, I've lived life on the edge including sky diving, bungee jumping, did drugs when I was younger. I am an adrenaline junkie and recently sold my Kawasaki Ninja at age 56. I love old cars, have a 1977 Vega if you know what that is. I used to drag race, rat race, and SCCA race also way way long ago. I own my own telecommunications company and have been in technology since 1971 - actually when it wasn't cool yet.
I was always driven to progress in my positions with many companies but never really found what I was looking in my walk with the Lord.
Why I am a Mormon
I've searched for a church since I was 18, going from Catholic to Episcopalian, Baptist, Southern Baptist, Non-denominational, Methodist, United Methodist, Pentecostal, joined the church of Satan stupidly in my twenties, and even taught against this church in two churches. I then joined the Roman Orthodox church and then stopped going for awhile. I started looking again, and one day my son and I were talking and he said are you sure that was what you said it was. The spirit, for some reason, pushed me to start investigating on my own. I didn't ask anyone about this and just read online about the gospel. I learned that all the points I used to teach against the church about and everything that I thought was true was in fact not true.
I was moving my company from one state to another and while placing help wanted ads, one of the job candidates and I started to talk and found out he was LDS. I had been doing my own investigation for about 6 months at that time and he was amazed at how much I knew already. He asked if I had a book for Mormon and I said no. He called a friend going to school near me and I got one. I couldn't put it down, mainly in Alma, but I went cover to cover and discovered the joy of knowing the Lord's church.
When I moved I was baptized in a week after arriving to my new location and home. I thank the Lord everyday for giving me the opportunity to join his church. My first year I've given out 122 books of Mormon. I hope that those seeds one day help someone else! How wonderful is it that the Lord accepts us all for our past issues and allows us into his church. We all have the opportunity to join his church, maybe not now for some of us, but hopefully one day!
I look back at my life and I was approached about the church more than a few times. Those were seeds, but I didn't realize it at the time.
I was baptized in March of 2009 and what a blessing it was to have finally found the Lord's church. I'm so happy to be a member of the church.
Personal Stories
How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?
The Book of Mormon, when I read it actually allows me to understand and live closer to the teachings of Jesus Christ. I read the Bible and Book of Mormon to this day and am thankful the Lord has given us another testament to understand his works more fully!
Why do Mormons do family history or genealogy work?
First off, we are all children of God. We were brought to this Earth because we chose to come. We have our immediate families and those which we never met, but we are all part of that family. We need to understand that we have the opportunity to assist those that have passed on and do not understand the Gospel. There are those who may never understand, but we have the opportunity to look into it and Baptize them and provide endowments that will help them also. We loved hearing stories about our Great Grandparents didn't we? I know I did!
Well think back to your mom or dad and their grandparents, they had enjoyed the same type of stories that you have. I can remember my Grandfather talking about seeing his first plane, his first car, a movie and so on. It's part of our families and knowing them or something about them or when they lived is awesome, plus it provides some bragging rights -
It's not all glory but sometimes you find gems, it's not about that though. What it's about helping those in your family progressing with the Lord. Take the time to find out about your family and get that in order and your life is now much bigger than life.
My family goes back to 20 BC with a man who moved from somewhere in France to Rome to join the Roman senate. His name was Ursinicus and he is as far back as I can go but can you imagine one day meeting someone that far back who was part of your family and still is actually. You have the opportunity to find them and assist them, nothing could be better than that!
I hope, even if you are not a member of the church, that you do your family work and find out who those in your family were so you can pass it to the next generation and so on. One day that information will be useful to you or someone in your family!
Why do Mormons go on missions?
Let me answer this from personal experience and wanting to go on a mission to Rome one day. When you understand the Lord's work and you understand what you have when you have the full picture it's an easy answer, you want to share your knowledge with other people. Look at me, in my first year I gave out 122 Books of Mormon. Why is a good question with a good answer. It's because the you know the answers finally! You want to share it and the atonement and full answer with as many people that are willing to listen.
Let's look at all the churches out there, there certainly are a lot and when you church hop you have a lot of opportunities to check out and go to quite a few. They are all different but the same, the word is close from one to the other but it just doesn't cut the cake. Let's look at a glass table and pick it up and drop it. Now you have a million pieces and lets look at that as the churches. You pick up as many pieces as you think you need but you don't get all of them. You leave pieces here and there and you miss out on a lot of the Lord's work and the meaning of the church and the atonement. In this church we have all the pieces, it's it great?
Well simply put, when you know you have all the pieces, you want to share that with everyone who will listen! That's why I want to go on a mission and think about it Rome, a Temple in Rome! It could also have to do with my ancestry, but it's a beautiful thing to speak to people about his church!
How has the Holy Ghost helped you?
In one word: everyday! It's a blessing and the gift of the Holy Ghost is something to be cherished. It's what helps us everyday and every minute of everyday. Not to be taken lightly, it's something really cool!
How I live my faith
I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I sin constantly and pray to Heavenly Father for forgiveness. I pray everyday in the morning and evening, at times during the day for strength to be better and the Lord assists me daily as well.
I love the church activities and like to participate in Ward activities and functions. The people are testaments to the Lord and are great examples for me! I carry a strong testimony now and try to live as the Lord asked us during his time on Earth.
Serving people in the Lord's church is pretty awesome and something that we are blessed with. If you're reading this and others I pray that the spirit fills your heart as it did mine. Being a convert isn't difficult unless you make it so. Prayer and a good foundation is great! Getting to Temple and a recommend is probably the most exciting time I have ever had in my life. I love my family, my mother actually can tell you how much joining the church has made me a better person also along with my children.
I thank the Lord for allowing me to be a part of this church, serve people, and have the strength to live my life as closely as possible to the gospel.
I am very proud to now say I am a Mormon!
