Hi, I'm Aly

I grew up on a small island in coastal North Carolina. I currently live in Colorado. I'm a wife and mother, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a full-time wife and mom to three crazy boys! We spend most of our time at some sort of ball field! I love being a mom of boys and find so much joy in watching them grow and excel at what they do.

I am also a wanna-be crafter and photographer. I love to create things. Whether it's a fabric flower, a quilt, or a photograph of a child, creating makes me feel like I have value in this world. I love music and wish I were a better musician! I grew up in a home where music was always in the background of our lives, and I think it filled our home with a feeling of peace. I try to fill my home with that same peaceful feeling.

I love watching a good movie or documentary and can think of nothing more fun than curling up on the couch with my husband and a bowl full of popcorn after the kids go to bed!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this church is Christ's church restored to the earth in its fullness. I know that our Heavenly Father lives and speaks to us today through prophets and apostles. I know that Joseph Smith is the prophet chosen to bring forth the gospel in the latter-days and that he saw God and Jesus Christ.

I am a Mormon because I know that the Book of Mormon is true and it is another testament of Jesus Christ. I know that it teaches me about my Savior and that its teachings bring me closer to Him.

I am a Mormon because I know that families are central to our happiness. I know that families can be an eternal entity and that through the blessings promised through the gospel of Jesus Christ, I can be with my family forever.

I am a Mormon because I know that God and Jesus Christ are active participants in my life and that they are acutely aware of me and my family. I know that my prayers are heard and answered!

I am a Mormon because I know that kindness and Christlike love are the basic principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that his love is what allows me to be here on earth for this mortal experience. I know that He lives!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by doing my best to serve my family and my fellow men. I serve as the Relief Society president of my ward and love getting to know sisters I associate with.

I live my faith by trying to be a good example to my friends and neighbors. I hope that through me, others can get a small glimpse of the love of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

I live my faith by striving to be clean and pure in my thoughts and actions.

I live my faith my trying to share the joy that comes through the gospel of Jesus Christ with others.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Serving a mission is a priesthood responsibility, and young men are asked to sacrifice two years in order to serve others, gain experience as followers of Christ, and grow in their faith. However, that is a choice each individual has to make on their own and deciding not to go does not affect a person's standing in the Church. But those who do go, men and women alike, usually find that two years is not enough time and wish they could stay longer. Service creates bonds of love for the people you serve. I was unable to go in my young adult years, but I still yearn for the opportunity and look forward to a time when I can serve as a missionary.

Quite simply, no. The young men of the church have been strongly encouraged to serve a mission at age 19, and the sisters are able to serve at age 21, but no one is required to serve. We do it because we want to! Who in their right mind would give up two years and pay that's right, missionaries pay their own way to go somewhere they had never been and do all that they do? We serve missions becuase we know that Jesus is the Christ, and we want the happiness that knowledge bring to be available to everyone! So no, Mormons are not required to serve a mission. It's a personal choice to share the happiness and joy they've received from the Gospel.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

In the Church we believe that marrige is between a man and a woman and that if a person acts on homosexual urges it is a sin. Inspite of us believing that homosexuality is a sin we think that we should love all of Gods childeren and we should not judge a person or condemn them. You can love the sinner and hate the sin. No one deserves to be degraded or bullied even if you dont agree with what they are doing. We are all childeren of God.
