Heather: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Heather

I'm a wife and mother of four. I'm a teacher. I love to run, garden and bake. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in both Eastern Canada and Western Canada. I went to school and played sports along the way. During college I worked as a rowing coach, summer camp counsellor and at a juice bar. I went to university and obtained my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I met my husband at university. We have four children. I like to go running. I love the book Jane Eyre. I love gardening with a passion. I love my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because it makes me happy. I was raised in the church. My parent's taught us the gospel in our home and we went to church most Sundays, even when we were on holidays.

When I was about fourteen I started going to an early morning scripture study class. We were studying The Doctrine and Covenants, one of our books of scripture. I learned more about Joseph Smith, a young man who wanted to know which church he should join. He prayed and asked God and God told him to join none of the churches and that God had a special thing for him to do. He was to help restore God's true church to the earth. I learned of the sacrifices Joseph made in his young life, I read the Book of Mormon that he translated and I came to know that Joseph was called of God and that the Book of Mormon was true.

I just wanted to do what was right. I felt happy as I followed the teaching of Jesus Christ. I came to feel the love that God had for me and I felt like I was valued and that I could make a difference in the world.

Personal Stories

How does making right choices help us make more right choices?

I'm addicted to making right choices! Well maybe not addicted but it feels good to do good. As we make a good choice we feel good. It's like God's way of saying keep it up.

I think as we make right choices it changes who we are. We become better. Our hearts become purer. We want to continue to make right choices.

One more thing is that we come to expect certain things from ourselves and our friends do too. If we act out of character, we feel it. Our friends can sometimes catch us and say 'that wasn't like you.' We catch ourselves we make it right , turn over what we need to God and Jesus Christ and we set a goal to be better next time.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to do what I know is true and right and good. I try to be a good neighbour. I try to be kind, honest and loving. I try to teach my children to love each other and to be understanding and patient with each other.

In the church I teach a group of ladies who live in our area. I teach once a month. We discuss different topics like family, faith and forgivness. We share stories and experiences. We discuss ways we can be better. There is a wide range of women, with all sorts of different life experiences. I often leave feeling uplifted and supported.
