Tabatha: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Tabatha

I'm a student, future substance abuse counselor, photographer, humanitarian, mother of three, a wife and a Mormon.

About Me

I have often wondered who best fits the description of a proper "Mormon Woman". What I have come to find out is that we are all very different in a wonderful way. I'm a full time student, a working mother of three, a wife, a photograher & a humanitarian. I love being my children's number one fan at their sporting events & helping them learn how to operate a successful lemonade stand in the summer. I also love working; helping youth & others in need. I feel that God has given me a variety of talents that he intended me to fully utilize. As a student at the University of Utah; I am gaining an education in the field of Substance Abuse Counseling & I am excited to be able to be an instrument of help for those who struggle with addiction. Last year I had the opportunity to travel to India where I assisted in a humanitarian project that I can only describe as life-changing; I left a piece of my heart in India and I am looking forward to more opportunities to give service there. Sometimes as mothers and wives we are made to feel that we have to fit a certain mold, or define ourselves as "stay-at-home-mom" or "working-mom"; we forget that we are Daughter's of God who are capable of being wonderful mothers, wives, sisters, teachers, doctors & what ever else we desire to be. I hope that my children will not only have a loving, supportive mother in me; but also see a Daughter of God who tries to utilize talents & education helping others & doing good in the world.

Why I am a Mormon

It really all does come down to family. For me, finding a faith that was Christ and Family centered just made sense. Though I had a basic history of Jesus Christ; I didn't fully comprehend how to apply that knowledge to my daily life. Learning more about God's plan was like finding the last missing puzzle piece.

Personal Stories

What have you done successfully to shield your family from unwanted influences?

Sometimes we forget to educate our children about what is happening in the world around us. Some parents fear that the more we talk about a subject the more it might tempt our children. The opposite is true. Our children will be exposed to something at somepoint in their young lives. It is impossible to sheild them from every harmful thing that comes their way. The key is to empower our children with knowledge and most importantly to always make sure they feel comfortable coming to you with any questions they may have. If we, as parents don't feel comfortable talking about a subject; our children won't turn to us for answers. It is also important to remember to respond to our children with Christlike love when they do make mistakes. If children and parents have a good relationship where there is communication, forgiveness and understanding; it will be much easier to prevent and fix problems as they arise.

How can your talents and gifts bless others?

As a mother and wife I have always felt it is important for me to remember my individual worth as a daughter of God. I have talents that have been given to me to use for the benefit of others. Sometimes we mothers feel that we are limited to using our talents within our home only; while this is very important, we shouldn't be afraid to use our talents outside of our home where we may touch the lives of others. I have found a great deal of joy working in crisis shelters, group homes, cancer clinics and helping orphans in India. I am continuing my education in the field of substance abuse counseling and I am excited to be an instrument of help to those who suffer from addiction. Being able to discover my strengths through these experiences has also helped me become a better mother and wife and has enriched the lives of my family. My children have a greater sense of empathy for others and new knowlege of how they too can be a tool in the hands of the Lord.

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?

Jesus Christ was the ultimate example of love. He showed us how to treat one another regardless of our differences. I ask that my family remember what Christ would do in many situations. Simply thinking about how Jesus Christ would handle situations, then trying to impliment that, helps resolve many disagreements in a loving way. In addition, the love that Christ showed to others who were imperfect is a shining example of the kind of forgiveness and non-judgemental attitudes we should have toward one another.

How can we develop greater harmony in our homes?

Every family strives to have harmony in their homes. While all families have disagreements, it is important to ensure that family members discuss concerns, feelings and problems in a Christlike way. Parents who use corporal punishment or shout and yell at their children in an effort to get results, will only see further disharmony. Taking time to understand another family member's point of view can cause us to ponder how he or she feels and then respond in a way that would be pleasing to Jesus Christ. Our brother Jesus Christ is the greatest example of how we should treat one another. How we react to disagreements is sometimes more important than the resolution of the problem.

How I live my faith

I am currently teaching the youth each Sunday; but I must say there are times they are truly teaching me. I love working with youth. Having church callings requires a careful balance. Most would agree that it is a good kind of busy and there are plenty of wonderful ward members who are willing to help out when needed.
