About Me
I am a mother of 4, and grandmother of 10. I enjoy playing games with my children and grandchildren and friends. I love reading, crafting, cross stitch, music, singing and playing the piano. I have been an accompianist, pianist or organist at church since I was 10. I started playing the piano in Primary when I was still in Primary [the organization for children, similar to Sunday School]. I also enjoy cooking, and taught all my children to cood and play the piano. We have a Holiday Tradition of baking cookies, fruitcakes and making candies to give to all our neighbors, co-workers and friends. I did this growing up with my family, and continued when I was married and in turn taught my children, and now my grandchildren. I enjoy learning and continuing my education. I returned back to college when my children were young and completed by Associates Degree just before the birth of my 4th child. After a break of 10 years, succeeded in graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University. When my children were in school, I enjoyed volunteering at their schools and classrooms, for their various clubs and school activities, Choir, Drama, Band and Sports.
Why I am a Mormon
When it comes down to it, I answered some basic questions for myself. These are the same questions I have posed to others when they are looking for answers. Do you believe in God? If you do, then what kind of God is He? Someone to fear, or loving and merciful and justice for all? If He is my Father in Heaven, I must be like Him, just as I am like my earthly father. There must have been something before this life on earth if we are all created in His image. There must be something after, or this life is a waste of time. If our Heavenly Father has a plan for us, how do we find out what it is? Since we know He loves all His children, why would He stop giving us direction and revelation with the Bible. Why would we think He wouldn't want to teach all His children on the earth. If He is fair and believes in justice and mercy, why would people that never had a chance to hear about the Savior be damned, and what is the plan to redeem them with baptism? If you believe there is a church on the earth that teaches this, which one is it? We have a living prophet on the earth today to give us direction for the times we live in. We believe that all mankind may be saved, not just a select few, if they are willing to believe and live as Christ did. Everyone can have that chance, even if they have already past on to the other side without hearing of Christ. The Book of Mormon does not replace the Bible, it enhances, enriches and also testifies of Christ and His principles. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints embodies all of Christ's teachings in the Bible. I have learned for myself.
Personal Stories
How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?
I know that I have a Heavenly Father that loves me. I know He has a plan. I am part of that plan. You a part of that plan. We lived before this earth was created, we live here now to test our faith and learn through the various experiences we will have here. We can return to live with our loved ones, Christ and our Heavenly Father again. This knowledge helps me make and keep my sacred covenants. When I have a choice, I want to be like my Savior. I know I make mistakes, as everyone does. The important part of this life is to correct the mistakes and move on, living a more Christlike life each day. As long as we are improving, we are on the right path. If this life is a test and my Heavenly Father loves me, I know he has given us directions to return to Him. We have that direction in our scriptures and a living prophet, and our own revelation through prayer and listening for the Holy Ghost's promptings. I know that some of the hardships we face here are fleeting and really unimportant, compared with an eternal perspective. When you have your eye on heaven, some of the problems you face seem easier when you realize 'this too shall pass'. We have something to learn with each trial that comes our way. Find what the Lord has for you to learn through each trial and you realize your life has not been cursed with another problem, it has been enriched with understanding and experience, and hopefully one step closer to God and Christ.
How I live my faith
When I found I was going to have a job location change and a longer commute to work, I obtained the scriptures on CD to make better use of my drive time. It has blessed my life. I can review and listen again, and read from my own scriptures when I want to cross reference with the footnotes. Not only have I volunteered at my children's school activities, and spoken to their friends when they have questions, and they have invited many friends over to learn about the gospel in our home. I love serving in the church, it brings us closer to each other as we serve one another, and gives us purpose and enhances and builds the skills we already have, and encourages us to learn and develop others we were weak in. I mentioned playing the piano and organ, but also leading choirs, children's programs and congregations. I have served in various capacities from teaching to directing and planning activities in the children's organization [3-11 years old]; the youth organization [12-18 years old] where we teach values and morals and organize service throughout the commumity; taught early morning seminary [14-18 years, various books of scriptures and church history]; adult women on Sundays and mid-week activities where we learn homemaking skills, learn about the Savior, crafting, cooking, and community service projects. We have women in our congregation we are assigned to visit, which gives us an opportunity to make new friends, serve and teach one another, and are a point of contact if illness, problems or emergencies arise with their families. My 'Visiting Teachers' have become great friends and given great comfort in time of need for myself and my family. Since I live far away from my parents, I know they also get the same great care and comfort as I do from their own church family. My faith is my way of life. Living my faith increases my love of the Savior and towards my fellow man [and women] and gives meaning and enrichment to my life I cannot find elsewhere.
