Hi, I'm Matthew Stumphy
I'm a wannabe filmmaker killing time in Los Angeles and working as a web developer. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I'm an aging single male who's been a member of the church all his life. Grew up in Happy Valley (that's Utah Valley, the home of Brigham Young University, for the uninitiated). I was a nerdy braniac who pulled a lot of good grades and threw off the occasional curve for the rest of the class. Somehow I managed to catch the acting bug in high school, so I decided to make that my life's work. I attended film school at BYU, then whisked away to Los Angeles to pursue the dream of cinematic fame and fortune.
So, of course, I now work as a web developer at a company that provides services for wedding photographers. I love me some fluorescent lights and computer monitors. I still try to stay artsy and do a play, a movie, a drawing, or some sort of musical endeavor as occasion permits.
Why I am a Mormon
I was born into the church, so of course that's the major reason. But I learned for myself that the church was true back when I 17 years old and deciding whether I was really going to go off and be a film student. I had always been taught that when I had a big life decisions before me, I should study it out in my mind, make a choice, and then go to my Heavenly Father in prayer and ask Him if it was right. That's precisely what I did, and He answered my prayer. I've since had that testimony strengthened by being a missionary for the church in Africa, in the nation of Ivory Coast. I had a number of other experiences that proved to me in a way that I cannot deny that this is truly the Church of Christ on Earth.
I cannot say that every moment of being a member of it has been utterly wonderful. There have been times when in my short-sightedness that I have felt some despair at ever being able to receive all the blessings that I know our Father in Heaven has in store for us. But I know that everything will work out beautifully in the end, if only I remain faithful.
How I live my faith
Well, I plug away like any member. I currently teach a class one Sunday every month, and run a little website for the single members of the church in this area who are between the ages of 27 and 45.
