Hi, I'm Susan
I'm a Mormon. I'm a convert to the Church with a strong belief, faith, and a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and His Church.
About Me
Youngest of six; the 'invisible child' in my family; former drug/alcohol abuser; history of abusive relationships; two miscarriages; three-time cancer survivor; engaged 5 times to 4 different me (twice to the same), but never married; very patriotic in the United States of America and often cry with patriotic hymns; collect lighthouses; write poetry and short stories; plays flute and piccolo; I love to sing; an 'out-doorsey' person; didn't have a 'mother/daughter relationship' while I was growing up, but finally got my mother 5 days before her death; have spent my childhood in loneliness; spent 14 years as a live-in care-giver for end-stage patients, four years with my parents; was told 'normal' people don't look at things the way I have all my life;
Why I am a Mormon
John 3:16-17 set my feet on the road to answers at the age of 6; dad was a Lay Minister w/United Methodist Church in my youth; only family member as member of LDS Church and shunned by mortal family for it; baptized on 3 July 1991 in Kansas; lost my beliefs, faith, and testimony as a result of the tragic death of my last fiance in car accident; off the 'straight & narrow path for 5-1/2 years; returned to the Church in Dec 2006 when God answered a plea for help; my faith, beliefs, and testimony are stronger than they have ever been; family genealogist; LDS family search indexer/arbitrator; have read all 4 standard works 8 times since Dec 2006; The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want, because He gives me all I need; teaching my dad the gospel; a favorite quote: "You can count the number of seeds in an apple, but not the number of apples in a seed"; finding the true Church of Christ was a relief to me, in knowing that I wasn't crazy for my life-long beliefs; the Church and the scriptures have shown me my purpose in life; scripture reading and prayer have taught me who I am, why I'm here, and where I'm going; have been to the Temple five times; in my first Sacrament talk, the guidance of the Spirit helped me weave the scriptures through the history of my life;
Personal Stories
In what ways have your prayers been answered?
The Spirit has given me guidance since I was six years old when John 3:16-17 set my feet on the road for answers. Being brought to humility in 1991, the Spirit guided me to the true Church of Christ. And, during 5-1/2 years away from the Church, the Spirit watched over me and helped to give me personal signs which guided me back to the Church in Dec 2006. Since that time, the Spirit burned within me to continuously and repeatedly read all four standard works of the Church.
How I live my faith
With daily prayer and scripture study, I have balance and peace in my life; trying to be available to be in the service of others; attend Church meetings, Conferences, and Church activities; I pray every morning for protection that day before putting on my garments; I subscribe to the Ensign magazine, waiting until the first day of the month to read it, and use it's stories and suggestions in my daily life; I practice and sing Church hymns; I love to study to history of the Church; I share my beliefs and scriptural study with my dad; I try to apply the scriptures in my life;
