Hi, I'm Alex
I'm a student at the colorado film school. I am studding to be a video Producer. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I love telling and listening to stories. That is why I have chosen to go into film. I am the oldest of five siblings, two brother and two sisters. I am happy to say we get along great.
I have food allergies to wheat and milk, if I eat them I get sick and grumpy. I am Dyslexic and was very worried that I would struggle in college but I have found that with modern technology, like spell checker, I have been able to do great.
I served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. I spent my time in Monterrey, Mexico. This was the hardest thing I have ever done but it is the best experience of my life and I would never take it back. I thought going a mission would put me behind by two years but it turns out I feel two year ahed of of all of my peers. God has taught me far more then a collage could.
I now speak fluent spanish and have even served in a spanish group in my local congregation helping translate. I love using the talents that God has given me to help others.
Why I am a Mormon
I grew up in the this faith, but there was a time around the age of 14 that I decided I was not going to go to church just because my parents said I should. If I was going to spend my life serving the church I needed to know for myself that it was the church Christ had established.
I put the promises I had been taught as a kid to the test, trying to see if God would give me a personal witness that it was true. I did everything I could and was constantly prying to receive a personal witness. I wanted some great experience but instead I got the filling that "you know this is true" and I did.
The answer was not very satisfying but I kept going to church, not for my parents but for me. I read the scriptures a lot too. One day when I was reading in the Book of Mormon Alma 23:28. It talks about comparing the gospel to a seed and planting it in your hart, If it is a good seed it will "enlarge my soul... enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me." I felt this way at that moment, I had just been thinking about how delicious the scriptures tasted. I felt in this moment as if someone poked me in the chest as if to say that's your answer.
I know the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is the true church of Christ. I Know that as I live it's teachings my soul is enlarged, my understanding becomes enlightened, and it is delicious to me. I have received a personal witness of theses things. I know that there is a living prophet today. I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. More then anything I know that God loves us and that his son Jesus Christ suffered for our sins. Through him we can find peace and joy.
Personal Stories
What is hope and what do you hope for?
Hope was something I struggled to understand for a long time growing up. We use the word hope as something not very strong "I hope is does not rain today" But the real meaning of hope is not as weak as a simple wish. Serving a mission to Mexico helped me understand the strength of hope. The word Hope in Spanish "esperar" is the same as the word to Wait. Now I understand that hope is when you wait patiently for God to fulfill his promise. It is a understanding that God knows what is best for you and will take care of you. Hope is what keeps your faith going.
I personally love learning what God has promised us and then trying to take full advantage of his blessings. I practice hope everyday in not giving up when things get hard or seem bad. I have that hope that God completes his promises and I am willing to wait for his timing.
How I live my faith
I am currently serving in a leadership position for a congregation made of Young Single Adults (18 years - 31 years). The group is located in Timberline but includes young single adults from all the surrounding areas including Castle Rock. I am actively involved in the almost nightly activities the group has and attend all the sunday meetings. I always am looking for opportunities to invite other young single adults to accompany us and share in the fun.
I practice my religion daily because I have seen and experienced that blessings that come when we give our time to God. With him in control I can have peace, knowing it will all work out for my good.
Knowing what I know now I don't think I could ever live without the gospel.
