Why do Mormons go on missions?

It's a variety of reasons to be quite honest. Young men ages 19 - 25 are encouraged to live worthily so they can serve. Young women are also allowed to serve as well as senior retired couples. However the reasons we serve are generally the same.

We love our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. We also love all those around us because we are each children of our Heavenly Father so we are all brothers and sisters. We find such great happiness and joy from the restored gospel and we want to share it with others. We don't care about increasing membership in the church. We care about others. We want to serve others. We simply want to share our message because it brings each and every one of us such great blessings. Because of the gospel we know the answers to some of life's great questions. We know there is reason to hope and that better times are ahead. This is the church of the happy ending so to speak.

All of those who serve missions do so because they are trying to develop the same kind of love Jesus had for each of us. We serve to help others because we love them. I know that for me personally that I serve because I want to share the happiness the gospel brings to my life with others. I know this gospel is true and that the blessings we promise are real. I know this church is true and that my Savior lives and I simply want to share with others what I know because of what it brings to me.
