I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all my life. I took the challenge early in life to pray and ask my Heavenly Father if the Book of Mormon is true and the spirit burned in my heart and mind that it is. I know being a member and following the example of Jesus Christ brings you real happiness. I know that we all are children of God and that our Heavenly Father loves us.
My prayers have been answered many times in my life. When I was young teenager I felt all alone in the world and decided to get on my knees and pray for strength. As I knelt down I poured out my heart and when I said "Amen", I felt a burning feeling of comfort in my whole body. I quickly was reminded that God loves me and that I have a brother named Jesus Christ who loves me too. I was immediately comforted with the Holy Ghost. Prayer does work and now anytime I need help I know what to do.
The greatest teaching that Jesus Christ has taught me is to be a peace maker. When he was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane one of his disciples took his sword and cut one of the Roman Soldiers ear making a statement of thier wrongdoing. The Savior, being a peace maker he is, immediately healed the Roman Soldier's ear and calmly told his disciples not to react with violent behavior. I imagine how easy it could of been for him to encourage his disciples to fight and even flee. I remember how he avoids conflict even if the situation is unjust or unfair. Jesus Christ lives a higher law and is willing to love all. This example is one of many that I apply to my life.
I do a lot of volunteer work. On Sunday's I teach Sunday School classes for the Adults and teenagers. I help out with the Boy Scout program or clean the church building during the week. I also have helped plan church parties, sang in choirs, and participated in various service projects for the needy or elderly. Most recently, I have learned how to prepare for emergencies by having a year supply of food or making a 72 hour emergency backpack. Now I am able to share my knowledge with my community by holding monthly classes on Emergency Preparedness at my church.
