Hi, I'm Cody
I am a Husband, a Father, a US Marine and I'm a Mormon.
About Me
My name is Cody, I am in the United States Marine Corps, married to my best friend and wife and our family is complete with the other joy in my life my new born son. My family spends a lot of its time outdoors, walking the trails and exploring the wonderful state of Washington. I love to workout and read, I mean I read a lot of books, I own easily over 100 of them, in my own little library. Together me and my wife love to cook, I have spent many great nights with her just whipping up meals in our kitchen.
Why I am a Mormon
Ever since I was 16 I spent a lot of my time searching for the right church. I was born and raised into a Catholic family but, as I grew up I was left with more questions then answers. I spent a lot of time searching for answers and trying to fill this spiritual hole that I was left with, with many types of philosophies and other religious beliefs. I entered the military a few years later and it was a tough life and even tougher on my family, when I found the church via Mormon.org it changed my life. It inspired me, it the following weeks I found myself studying and praying, soon I was being a better husband, a better friend and a better father, after seeing the change I knew this was the real deal and was baptized and received the Holy Ghost shortly after. It was then as I stepped back and saw how much the restored Gospel changed my life in just a month and started answering questions that I spent years wondering about that's when I knew that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was truly a great work of God, the truth and the way. This is why I'm a Mormon.
Personal Stories
Can you think of a specific challenge in your family that Gospel Principles helped overcome?
I used to have a very bad habit of smoking and dipping. One that I picked up through my years in the Corps. When I had gotten married my wife who had lost a close family member from lung cancer caused by smoking, was outraged when she found out I smoked a pack a day and a dipped a can a week. Needlessly to say it caused problems in our marriage. I tried quitting more than once but, I found myself doing the same old thing. When I found the church my very first lesson was over the Word of Wisdom and how tobacco not only did harm to our bodies but, got in the way of the Holy Spirit who brought so much joy to our life. After seeing all the good things that started going right in my life after finding the church and thinking about how partaking smoking and dipping would drive that away, I decided right then and there I would stop. Since that moment I had not had a single craving and by following the Word of Wisdom and not putting harmful things in my body I have been blessed with a much closer marriage, my wife doesn't worry about my health and I don't worry about trying to find out when my next nicotine fix was going to be. I'm now leading a tobacco free and healthier lifestyle.
How I live my faith
My job takes me away from the church a bit, so when I do attend church on Sunday it is an absolute joy to be there and shake hands, talk and teach with all the wonderful people in the ward. I read alot of the scriptures to stay grounded when ever I am away from my wife or when the stress of military life feels like a heavy burden. When I am in the field I get the unique privilege to be able to answer questions from fellow Marines on what LDS is all about. Its just amazing to sit and watch people take in the Book of Mormon who have never herd it before and actually ponder it and start moving towards the truth. 3rd Nephi Chapter 11 always leaves someone inspired.
