Hi, I'm Mat Greer

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I'm so grateful to know we are all children of the same God!

About Me

My wife and I have a wonderful family, with 4 children (three of whom have very special spouses, and our baby who is still single and attending college); and we are amazingly blessed to regularly spend time with our 8 beautiful grandchildren. My eternal companion and I love to travel, especially to visit those grand-babies! We look forward in the not too distant future to retirement, when we will have the opportunity to serve somewhere in the world as full time missionaries for the church. We share a love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and are eternally grateful for our Savior and for the eternal sacrifice He has made in our behalf. I am very involved with the Boy Scouts of America, and love the privilege it gives me to work with the youth in my area. I believe the strength of our nation lies in it's families, and most importantly in the rising generation who will soon have the responsibility to lead us into the future. One of the most important things we love most about the LDS church, is the emphasis that is placed on helping our youth to become righteous and productive citizens of our world. Mostly though, we are grateful for each other, and for the knowledge that we have been sealed together in marriage not just till death do we part, but for all of eternity if we are willing to make the necessary sacrifices to obtain that blessing after we pass from this earth.

Why I am a Mormon

I love being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. I love that I share with so many other Christians in the world today that we do indeed have a Savior, and that He does indeed love each one of us individually. I love that the church provides answers to every single question - not only regarding my existence here on the earth, but even more importantly where I came from before I was born into this mortal existence. Most importantly I have come to know regarding what happens to Father in Heaven's children after we leave this mortal existence. I have a firm knowledge that we each have the opportunity to return to our Father in Heaven after we die, because of the sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ, if we are but willing to live obediently while here on this earth. I know without any doubt that my Father in Heaven knows and loves me personally, and that He misses me and all of His children terribly, and that His only desire is that we live righteously that we may return to His presence one day after we finish our work here on this earth. I know that we each have our agency, or the right to chose the life we will live. He will never force us to do His will, but we cannot enjoy His blessings if we are unwilling to follow in the footsteps of our Savior and become His disciples in this great work of our Father in Heaven.

How I live my faith

I try every day to show how much I love my Father in Heaven, and my Savior, by treating every one I meet with love and respect, as I believe He would treat us if He were here on the earth again. I believe in greeting each and every day with great enthusiasm, and with a love for life, looking for the good in all things that I encounter. I try every day to show my bride how much I love her, and my children and grandchildren how grateful I am to my Father in Heaven for the gift they are to us. Most importantly I try to give thanks to my Father in Heaven for the endless blessings that He showers down upon me and my family. There is no way I could every repay or measure up to the bounty with which we have been blessed, and I am humbled by the love He shows me in spite of the many mistakes I am so prone to make on a regular basis.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

The temple is a House of God. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ, we consider the Temple to be the most sacred place on earth, a place of peace, and safety and even refuge from the storms of turmoil that blow continually across the earth. It is a place of learning, a place of instruction as to the things of eternity. Members of the church in good standing are permitted to enter the Temple and participate in the sacred work that goes on there. Notice I said sacred, not secret. The work of the Lord is not something that goes on in a dark corner, but in the brightness of the light of The Savior's Gospel. In the Temple we receive sacred ordinances which bring husbands and wives and families together for eternity. At the same time, we have the privilege to receive those ordinances vicariously for our departed ancestors who may not have enjoyed the full blessings of the gospel during their lives. Each individual, both on this earth and in the worlds to come, has the right of agency, enabling them to chose for themselves what their existence is to be like. If our departed ancestors in the next life have made the choice to embrace the fullness of the Gospel, then they will also accept the ordinances we vicariously perform in their names, enabling them to enjoy all of the blessings of eternity as promised by the Savior to all who would follow him (see Col 3:24).

A temple is a house of the Lord, a place where we may worship our Heavenly Father and feel of His presence. It is a sacred place where no unclean thing can enter. Because of the importance and sacredness of the temple, a temple recommend is required and is received based on individual worthiness within the church in order to enter its holy walls.

The temple is where I go to find answers, to find peace, and to feel the Spirit. We are encouraged to go as often as possible and to attend seeking Spiritual guidance. Inside we perform sacred ordinances for ourselves and more often for others, those who are deceased. God requires that all to make covenants in order to return to His presence and many died without the opportunity to make these covenants. In the temple we perform the ordinances for them in their name giving them the opportunity to reject or accept the ordinance and thus enter into the presence of the Father. The temple is a very sacred and holy place.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

In the Church we believe that marrige is between a man and a woman and that if a person acts on homosexual urges it is a sin. Inspite of us believing that homosexuality is a sin we think that we should love all of Gods childeren and we should not judge a person or condemn them. You can love the sinner and hate the sin. No one deserves to be degraded or bullied even if you dont agree with what they are doing. We are all childeren of God.
