I'm a husband, father of three, medical student, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Just to give you a quick run down. I grew up in Idaho and that is where I attended High School and College. During college I met my sweetheart and we were married a short time later. Since that time we have been through almost 4 years of medical school together and have three children. I am a pretty simple guy. I am the most happy when I am spending time with my wife and kids. In my spare time I like to garden or do just about anything else with my hands. Someday I hope to practice as an orthopedic surgeon.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, and so from a very young age I have believed the things that I have been taught. However, as I have gotten older my experience with those teachings has continued to testify to me that they are true. In the scriptures it teaches that "by their fruits ye shall know them." Well for me I can attribute basically every good thing I have in my life to following the teachings of the Savior. Aside from that, I feel that it is right. I feel that Father in Heaven has told me that it is right through his spirit. For that reason I am a Mormon, and will always be a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I cant really just pick out one aspect or another of my life that might be and indicator of my faith. I feel that everything that I do really is a reflection of my belief in the Savior. That is not to say that I am always perfect, but I am trying. I know that when I am not perfect I can come to Him and He can help me to start over and try again. That being said, there are a variety of ways that I try to be involved and exercise my faith on a regular basis. I currently serve as a member of the bishopric for our congregation. My responsibilities mainly focus on the youth of the church. In trying to serve them I feel that I am definitely gaining perspective on the Savior's statement that "of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

Nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes. Yet Jesus Christ taught that no unclean thing can enter into the kingdom of heaven. It seems like these two realities would be incompatible with one another. In fact, without the Savior Jesus Christ, they would be. However, through His atoning sacrifice Jesus Christ has made it possible to repent of all that we do wrong, and through Him become perfect. That way we can enter into heaven with Him someday.

However, it is not only from sin that Jesus Christ Saves us. Jesus Christ understands us perfectly, knows how we feel, and what we are going through. We can turn to him and find understanding where we might not otherwise be able to find it. As we turn to Him, He can give us the power to overcome all of our trials, struggles, and difficulties. In this way he is also our Savior.

There are doctrinal answers to why we believe we need a Savior to redeem us from the Fall of Adam and to return us to our Father in Heaven that you'll probably come across here. But let me tell you why I need a Savior personally and what He does for me. Christ suffered personally for my pains, sorrows, and sins so that if I ask Him too, He can take them from me. I have been the victim of abuse in my life, and yet through Him I have been able to lay it all at His feet, freely forgive, feel peace, find love, and understand how important negative life experiences can be in teaching us humility. Daily He takes my pain and replaces it with pure love so that I am no longer a victim, but a victor. I need a Savior because He knows me, and through him my flaws become strengths and my pain becomes peace.

What is being a Mormon like?

Being a Mormon is like being yourself but you will find more happiness through the gospel of Jesus Christ so you will a better yourself you won’t want to do the things you know are wrong. People will know that you are following Christ and they will respect you for that even if they tease you about it at first. You don’t have to change your personality but you will change the way you look at life and find more respect and love for Christ and what He did for you and for me.
