I have a wonderful family whom I cherish and thank God for every single day. I can always count on my parents and three older brothers for advice, some pretty good laughs, and spontaneous dance parties in the kitchen. I am currently a senior at an all-girls Catholic high school where makeup and groomed hair are unfamiliar and atypical. My job is to deliver flower bouquets and my favorite part is always seeing the faces of surprised and touched recipients. I love to share my Polynesian culture by dancing hula for special events and bringing the spirit of aloha to the east coast, where I was born and raised. I love to learn new words, and a pet peeve of mine is misspelled words. I love to press flowers, write down inspiring quotes, and journal on unlined paper. Life has given me marvelous opportunities to serve, meet incredible people, and love what every day has to offer.
Even though I was born as a Latter-Day Saint, I have realized that I become more and more converted every single day. My love for my Savior can only increase as I recognize the blessings He has given me, including the trials that have been placed in my life. Knowing that I will be with my family for eternity gives me only a slight perspective of the wonderful things to come and for that I am forever grateful.
Prayer in my life has become my refuge from the world. For as long as I can remember, I was always taught by Sunday School teachers and my family that I can always turn to my Father in Heaven when I need to talk to Him. As I have become a little older, I have truly felt the power of prayer come to life. To think that the channels from Earth to heaven are open only solidifies my faith that God listens to me. If He can do that for me, then I have no doubt whatsoever that He can do that for every other individual on this Earth. There have been times where I have been able to get on my knees, barely begin a prayer, and feel the heavens open directly above me as I pour out my feelings towards my Heavenly Father. There have also been many times where the answers to my prayers are unexpected and not what I had in mind. I have learned that God's time is different than ours when He answers our prayers - but He will always answer them.
Because we were made in the likeness and image of God, we also carry within us His light when we are brought into this life. The best way I can live my faith is to expose His magnificent light within me and to see this light within others. I do my best to fulfill this through my interactions and thoughts of others, though I often fall short. Through my struggles, however, I can come closer to my Lord Jesus Christ by bearing another's burdens, just as He has done for me. As I strive to live a Christlike life, which can be very difficult, I continuously learn of my Savior's selflessness and compassion, and His example only motivates me to be more like Him.
