Hi, I'm Danet (duh-nay)
I'm a writer, a swimmer, a musician, and a future teacher. I love children and I love life. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
Hi, my name is Danet and I'm a Mormon. To tell you a little bit about myself, I'd like to start off by saying I'm married and LOVING IT! My husband is phenomenal. I am the luckiest girl on earth. Currently I'm attending college and am striving to graduate with a degree in Elementary Education in 2 years. I've got a full plate of homework, projects, and lots of the regular jobs of being a housewife. Thankfully, my husband has a full time job and so my 19 credit hour course-load is doable. I love to work with kids and I love to learn. I also enjoy music. I've played piano for 9 years and I was in high school choir all four years. Singing is something I do ALL the time. I sing everywhere! I've worked as a lifeguard, as a waitress for I-Hop (not my favorite job...), and currently in church, I am a youth leader for girls age 8-11. I plan activities for them to do every other week that teach them homemaking skills, spiritual skills, and practical skills (like keeping a budget). When I was younger I wanted to be a writer, a Sea World trainer, and most importantly, a mom. I'm excited to have kids of my own one day.
Why I am a Mormon
I am a Mormon, as you must assume because you're reading this profile. My family on both my mom and dad's side have been life-long members, so I was born into the Church. However, despite popular belief, I do not feel that I was brainwashed at age 8 to get baptized. 8 year olds are exceptionally independent and capable of decision-making, as I've come to find out while studying childrens' brain development and working with children of all ages. I was baptized at age 8 about a month after my birthday so I had plenty of time to decide if I was ready to be baptized. Growing up in the Church has been a unique experience. I do not feel I would have chosen any differently if I could choose between the family I have now and a different one. I'm thrilled to have the knowledge that families can be forever. I worship in the LDS church not just because it's what I'm used to, but because I believe it, with all my heart. I want nothing more than to always be with my family, and now with my husband for all eternity. It's a relief to know that God listens to my prayers, even when they're half-mumbled as I fall asleep, or tearfully expressed on a stressful day. He loves us so much that He made certain we would have EVERY POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITY to return to live with Him again, including providing us a Saviour, Jesus Chris. Without Him, we wouldn't be able to be with our families forever. I know without a shadow of a doubt that the Mormon church is the only true and complete church on the face of the earth. Test it out. You'll find that every question you've had in your life can be answered through the scriptures and through the words of prophets who live and speak to us today.
How I live my faith
In my ward at church, I am a visiting teacher. This is one of my callings or assignments in my ward. Each of the sisters in the ward are assigned visiting teachers, myself included. I have a co-visiting teacher who gets together with me to meet with our assigned sisters at least once a month. It is our job to make sure they are provided for spiritually. I also am visited by my own visiting teachers. A visiting teacher is almost like an extra friend or a sister who helps to look after others. However, I do not think that it is solely our responsibility to look after the few sisters we have been assigned to visit teach. I believe it's important to be friendly and care for any sisters we come in contact with. I love being a part of the church because of visiting teaching. It's easy to make friends. I look forward to the warm feeling I get when I meet with the sisters I visit teach, as well as knowledge I have that my own visiting teachers love me and are doing their best to be aware of my needs. I only hope that I am as helpful of a visiting teacher to my own sisters in my ward.
As well as my calling to be a visiting teacher, I am also an Activity Days leader for the girls age 7-11. This is almost like a Girl's Scout leader. These girls are all working to complete the personal goals that help them learn about the scriptures, service, developing talents, and preparing for the Young Women's program when they turn 12. I love the opportunity to help their testimonies grow and to help them develop into young women.
