Why I am a Mormon

Why am I Mormon? Because the Holy Ghost made a powerful impact in my heart and I know without a doubt the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. Never wavered in that. I was NOT looking for a religion at the time. We were Christian but never attended church or gave religion much thought until the missionaries started teaching us. Now, it is our life.

Knowing that Christ is at the head of this family has greatly helped and strengthened us.

How I live my faith

I'm modest, trading in all my old clothing for modest clothing. I live the Word of Wisdom and gave up tea. I have a calling in my ward to do the bulletin—my dream job. Also I try to be nice to people. I'm a very humorous, witty and happy person and that shows. Some people have said, "You aren't like the typical Mormon." That confused me and still does but I'm a lively old lady who truly does enjoy life. We're a humorous family actually. I try to be an example of Christ also. I fall far short, trust me. We pray; we attend church regularly and we also try to be the best we can be.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

No. I've never even met the man.

One night I was on the front row of a concert. A big star came to the edge of the stage and held out his hand. EVERYONE rushed forward, climbing over each other, pushing and wedging themselves along, just to touch him. I almost got caught up in that too, and was about to rush ahead when a little voice kicked in "He's just a man. What's the big deal?" At that moment I vowed to never adulate anything less than deity. I will not go to my knees for anyone but a Loving God.

I respect Joseph Smith like I respect any man who tries his best to live according to his conscience. I hope maybe one day I'll get to chat with him over lunch--or over whatever kind of meal they offer in the life beyond. But I cannot worship a man, for why should I place and value one person any higher than another?

My wife is a Mormon, and I love her with all of my heart. She is devoted to serving God, and raising a righteous family. We are equal partners in God's eyes, and her happiness is my enduring goal in life.
