Kathy: Spirit-filled, Charismatic, Assembly of God, tongues, born again, Evangelical, Mormon.

Hi, I'm Kathy

I'm a born again, Spirit-filled, Charismatic Mormon.

About Me

I was born again at age 16 when I asked Jesus to come into my life to be my Savior and Lord. I have loved and served Jesus with all my heart since that day. I was baptized in the Holy Spirit at age 24, and received the gift of tongues. I have known and loved the Holy Ghost ever since. Because of many moves, we attended Baptist, then non-denominational, Charismatic and Pentecostal churches. I am very grateful for the things the Lord taught me, and the worship we enjoyed for those many years. Thirty years after I was saved, and 22 years after I received the filling of the Holy Spirit with tongues, I felt the Lord beckoning me to read the Book of Mormon. I read it all the way through. But it was not until I was reading the Doctrine and Covenants, and praying in tongues while reading, that the Holy Spirit revealed to me that this truly is also the Word of God. When I was baptized as a Latter-day Saint at age 46, I knew I was cleansed from the blood and sins of this generation. When I received the authorized LDS Gift of the Holy Spirit, I was amazed how the Holy Spirit could go higher and deeper in me, than He previously could. It was if I had a stronger protective covering over me, and far better spiritual tools than I ever did before.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have devoted my life to loving and serving our Father in heaven, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Savior, and King, and the precious Holy Spirit. I covenanted with the Lord, when I was first born again at age 16, that I would follow Him all the days of my life. When I was baptized in the Holy Spirit at age 24, I again promised the Lord, praying in both tongues and English, that I would do anything He wanted me to do. I have tried to love the Lord with my whole heart, soul, mind and strength all the days of my life. I am a Mormon because I have committed to the Lord to follow Him in all things. There is more of the Holy Spirit available than I had before as just a born again Charistmatic Christian. He does not leave, He remains with me. I no longer have to constantly pray and beg Him to please come, as He stays with me. He's the same Holy Spirit. Just like a man and woman are the same people the day before their marriage as they are the day after their marriage, yet the covenant makes all the difference. There is greater power and covering with the LDS authorized priesthood Gift of the Holy Spirit. And with the covenants available in the temple, far greater tools than what I had previously. What I had before was awesome. What I have now is incomparable.

My husband joined the Church a year later, and we were sealed (covenant marriage) in the temple in 2004. We had a very good Christian marriage before. Now, there is even a deeper covenant and covering over our marriage since we have been sealed. It is an answer to the prayers I've prayed for decades; to have even more blessings and more power from the Lord to serve Him.

Personal Stories

How can we develop greater harmony in our homes?

By keeping our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Finisher of our faith, and by listening moment-by-moment to the gentle whisperings of the Holy Spirit, it is possible to promote harmony in our homes. The Lord knows the ways around and through the problems we all face. As we listen to His gentle Spirit, He, who is our Counsellor, will guide us into true peace and love. And the Lord will be free to work and bless our lives.

How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?

As Pentecostal Renewalist Christians, we already knew that God still talks today. We were accustomed to regular inspiration from the Holy Spirit through the scriptures and through our Pentecostal apostles and prophets. The Book of Mormon has opened even more revelation in that it clearly explains the fulness of the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ. No longer do we feel agony for loved ones who have died without asking Jesus to be Lord of their lives. We understand that these dear ones can hear the gospel in the afterlife, and have the opportunity to accept His Atonement, should they decide they want it. This applies to ALL of God's children; from the teens who never "got it", to the people born in countries where they may never hear the name of Jesus. The Book of Mormon enlarges your heart; and you can feel the difference. Hard, judgmental feelings seem to melt, and deep love for all humanity grows. Alma 32 explains this, comparing the Word of God with a seed. If you read the Book of Mormon, and choose to trust the Holy Spirit to guide, you also will feel the Lord working in your heart. Alma 32 counsels us to not cast out God's Word by our unbelief. It tells us that we can tell by the fruit of it in our lives. "Now we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if you give place that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that you will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; (then you) will say within yourselves-It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me." Alma also tells us the fruit of God's word is that "your understanding doth begin to be enlightened, and your mind doth begin to expand." I am profoundly grateful for the Book of Mormon, it has expanded my soul and enlightened my mind.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in the same way I did for the 30 years before I was baptized as a Latter-day Saint. Each day, I try to read some in the scriptures; (Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price). I pray in English and in tongues throughout the day. I try to follow Jesus in all things, and listen to the Holy Spirit as He prompts me. I go to church, and try to bless others around me with spritual food. I am so grateful for the blessings of the Restoration; I have more love, more power and far better spiritual tools than I had as a born again Spirit-filled Charismatic / Pentecostal Christian. I have been writing a book on building bridges between born again Spirit-filled Charismatic and Pentecostal Christians, and Latter-day Saints (Mormons). There is an incredible language and cultural barrier between these two groups. I testify to Spirit-filled Christians that there is more. You can trust the Holy Spirit; He will guide you into all truth. Greater truths, and greater power is available within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
