I love art; I love being a big and little sister and being around my siblings; I love to read, swim, listen to and play music, and laugh; I love church youth activities, especially girls camp; I love my parents and my Savior, and I love my life.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were both members of the Church before I was born, so I have been in this gospel my whole life. Before this year, I really didn't even question myself as to whether I thought that this church was true or not, it was just something that I did. Through several experiences lately however, I realized that I had a testimony. I am completely indebted to my parents and the others in my life who helped me to gain that testimony. I know that this church is true, but more than that I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior, and that he loves me.

How I live my faith

I enjoy going to church every Sunday and I do what I can to help others to enjoy it as well. Listening to my church leaders is a great faith-builder for me, as well as listening to my parents. Knowing that I am a member of the only true church on this Earth helps me to realize that I have a huge responsibility to share what I know with those who will listen.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Mormons will help anyone who needs it, no matter who they are or what their situation is. Jesus Christ didn't just help those who believed he was the Messiah. He helped everyone, including those who scorned him. Christ is the example set for Mormons. We try to be like him, so we endeavor to help everyone, not just those of our faith. Show more Show less

As a local Bishop in the Church, I can assure you that we do not limit our help to members. We perform numerous acts of service to our friends in the local community, and we do it gladly because we know service brings us and them great blessings of happiness and satisfaction. Our world wide disaster relief program brings food, clothing, water, sanitations kits and medications to our nonmember brothers and sisters around the world, quickly and effeciently. As Mormons, we know we are fellow citizens of the world and that all peoples are part of our Heavenly Father's family, and we try hard to act accordingy. Show more Show less

What is the First Vision?

When the Prophet Joseph Smith was 14, he wanted to know which of the various Christian sects was true. When he went into the woods to pray about it, he was visited by Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, who told him that all of the sects were wrong and their ministers corrupt, that they had a form of godliness but denied the power thereof. When he related the story to a Methodist minister he had been friends with, he was told that all revelation had ceased with the Apostles 1800 years earlier and that therefore this vision was of the devil. Thereafter he was reviled for telling the story. He was very baffled by this because he had indeed seen a vision and people were telling him that he couldn't possibly have seen one. He said he felt very much like St. Paul, who had seen a vision of Christ on the road to Damascus and been reviled for saying so. - This is a very powerful story, as related in The Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith History. The interesting thing is that it is very much in line with what Protestants had been preaching, that the original Christian Church had fallen into apostasy, as evidenced by the corrupt practices of the Catholic Church that Martin Luther and other reformers had railed against hundreds of years earlier. Reformers had started their own churches, using the Bible as their guide yet sects continued to multiply even as they quoted the Bible to support their various approaches. However, by denying that there could be any more revelation, the Protestant churches were essentially denying the power of God. - Five years after I joined the Church, my mother was very concerned for the welfare of my soul because I was a Mormon. We read various passages in the Bible and she asked me if I believed them and I said yes. Finally, she asked, do you believe the Bible is the ONLY word of God and I said, "No. Are you trying to tell me that God is not omnipotent and couldn't give us more scripture if He wanted?" She replied, "Well, no I wouldn't say that." So I began to talk about the Apostasy and read her parts of the First Vision. Then she said, "Did you know that the National Presbyterian Church recently allowed an avowed atheist to be ordained a minister?" My uncle later explained to me that the minister in question did not believe that Christ was born of a virgin. My mother had been a Presbyterian most of her life. Yet she agreed that there were many things she believed that went against Presbyterian teachings or that Presbyterians were silent on For example, she believed that marriage was eternal and that we lived with our Heavenly Father before we were born on this Eart. We talked for many hours. A couple days later, she said, "If this Church is true, I want to be baptized!" She died a week later.
