Brian: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Brian

I'm a husband, a father, a folk singer, a carpenter, a law student and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have done many things and lived in many places in my life. I married and divorced and am married now. I am a father and grandfather. I am a carpenter and a musician. At the age of 48, with my children on their own, I decided to fulfill a lifelong dream. I enrolled and became a freshman in college. It seemed almost insane to be sitting in a class room with 30 smart 17 and 18 year olds. However, it is seven years later and I am just months from receiving my law degree. I have been a Mormon all my life and it is a great to belong to an organization that encourages personal growth and change.

Why I am a Mormon

My dad, my mom's second husband, introduced my mom to the church when I was 5 years old. I have been a Mormon all my life. Even still, I had to make the choice for myself. At 15, I knew this was the Savior's plan and knew I would serve a mission. After my mission I married and had three great children. Unfortunately, I have not always made wise choices. I divorced and spent sometime not participating in the blessings offerd by activity in the church. During that time, I never lost my testimony of the truthfulness of the teachings of the church. Someone asked me, why go back? I answered, "because it's the right thing to do." Another friend asked me, "and do you believe that?" I paused for a moment of personal reflection and answered without faltering, "yes, I do." To the reader, I echo that statement and say, I am a Mormon because I know happiness lies in following the Savior's plan and being a Mormon helps me to understand that plan and how to apply it to my life. We all have challenges and make mystakes. The Savior waits with outstretched hand to welcome us to his fold. I am a Mormon because I want to accept that reach. I hope you will too.

Personal Stories

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

The truth is that my relationship through prayer has not allways been what it should. Several years ago I decided to change that. I studied prayer and made a commitment, to myself, to pray each morning and evening. In a very short time I noticed that during these few prayerful moments I felt a true peace and stillness within. Over time I began to depend on that sensation as some days it was the only peace I would feel during a hectic day. I also found myself thinking about talking to my Heavenly Father. This led to a greater effort to behave so that I could feel deserving of these feelings. The decision and commitment to pray has now become a desire. I know Father is there, even if some days I feel more connected than others. My prayers are answered, often in ways much different than requested or expected. What used to be a happen stance and sporadic event has become as much a part of my life and going to sleep and waking up. I urge you to give it a try. Make prayer a part of your life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by making myself available to assist when there is a need. I enjoy being the guy people know they can call when they need something done. I am currently a leader in the Boy Scout program. I also live my faith by following the princples of the church wherever I go and with whomever I come in contact. I live my faith by contuing to learn about the teachings of the Savior. I live my faith by loving my wife and my family.
