Im a friend, a student, a daughter, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 18 years old, and a typical girl teenager. I like hanging out with family and friends. I run on my high school cross country team, and am a part of student council. I like to spend time with little kids including my 5 younger siblings. I serve in the community. I want to attend BYU idaho next year. I love seminary and the gospel, and i want everyone to feel as happy as i am with the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a mormon family. But if that wasnt the case, Im sure the missionaries would have found me and i would have accepted the church immediately. The gospel brings such a light and happiness to everyone that cannot be explained unless experienced personally. The Holy Ghost works in mysterious ways, and it will work miracles to those who allow it to. I know this church is true. I know a prophet called of God leads the church in these days. I know Joseph Smith restored the true church of Christ. I know temples are the only place for eternal marriages. I know Jesus atonned for my sins personally. I hope everyone takes the opportunity to learn about the gospel, it is truly life changing.

How I live my faith

Im currently enrolled in Seminary and Young Womens. These programs are designed to give the Youth of the church additional information about the gospel. Seminary has been a blessing in my life in many ways. It gives me a chance to escape the outside world and drama and focus one hour everyday on the gospel. I have grown more spirtually in these last 4 years of seminary than i have my whole life.

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

At many times in the Bible prophets were commanded to practice polygamy. Some of these prophets were Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, and Solomon.

We know that plural marriage is a sin unless God commands us to practice it. In the Book of Mormon the prophet Jacob tells the Lords will on the subject, “for there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife: and concubines he shall have none... for if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things” (Jacob 2:27-30).

So only as the Lord commands His people is it acceptable. While they early saints accepted this it was not an easy commandment to keep. They had many struggles with it and only under the direction of the Lord was it carried out. The Church leaders closely supervised the practice and only those who had been authorized by the Lord were to practice. In addition to that all of the marriages had to be performed by the sealing power of the priesthood which had been restored. It was not a temporary thing when it was practiced.

In 1890, President Woodruff received revelation that plural marriage was no longer acceptable to the Lord. So the practice was stopped instantly. Anyone who practices polygamy now is NOT a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mormons practiced polygamy because the Lord commanded some of them to do so, for purposes known to the Lord. At the time, there were no national laws prohibiting polygamy. When the Supreme Court ruled that later anti-polygamy laws were constitutional, the Lord directed Pres. Woodruff to issue the Manifesto, and the practice ended in the Church.

What do Mormons believe about family?

The family is a key component to support us in God's plan for gaining immortality and eternal life. All of God's children (all the inhabitants that lived, are living, and will live on Earth) are inseperably connected to each other, both (physically) by our Earthly families and (spiritually) by our Heavenly Father.

Families help us to understand our divine heritage. In this, life takes on purpose and meaning. Our immortal spirits were created by our Heavenly Father before Earthly existance, and we are directly connected to Him in this way. As a spiritual family, our collective purpose on Earth is to follow the commandments of God that lead us to live in heaven with Him again.

Our spirits need to progress, learn, and grow. In order to achieve that, Earthly existance was created as our test. Our Heavenly Father knew that being exposed to opposing forces on Earth was the only way for us to gain knowledge and wisdom.

However, we will not always choose righteousness, and so our Savior, Jesus Christ, is that great mediator to pay the debt of our mistakes. He is the only way by which we can be saved from our sins and transgressions. He is the ultimate example by which direction we need to live our lives. With the support of our earthly kin, we can learn from each other, serve each other, and strengthen our mortal weaknesses by being disciples of Christ. Our families are a gift from God, and we can be together forever.
