I'm working on an Anthropology major. I'm an avid writer. I was a college volleyball player. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently out of school but am working to save up money to go back to school. I'm majoring in Anthropology. I love reading books of all kinds (horror not so much). I'm aspiring to be an author in the near future in young adult fantasy. I played community college volleyball for two years. I love learning history, particularly archaeology.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church but have never really wanted to leave. When I'm at church and am around other people of my faith, the feeling that I get while in church hasn't been felt anywhere else and I don't want to lose it. That feeling, which we call the Holy Ghost, is my constant companion and helps me get through trying times both at home, school, or work. If I didn't have the Holy Ghost in my life I know I wouldn't be where I am today.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being an example. I treat others like I want to be treated. I try to be the best person I can be in a world that looks down at being kind and friendly. I visit other woman in my ward and offer any help they might need. I'm part of what's called the preparedness committee which helps people in the ward with making 72 hour kits and food supply in case of a natural disaster or other trauma.

What is the Relief Society?

The Relief Society is a women's organization that helps mother's and single women through hardships, whether financial, family, or otherwise. We give support to those that have lost a family member by bringing food or offer our services like helping with laundry or watching small children. We help teach women to be prepared in case of a natural disaster and to have a food supply ready in case something like this occurs. The Relief Society also has a purpose of strengthening families and the importance of spending good, quality time with each family member and together as a whole. We encourage seeing movies together that's children oriented and that the TV shows watched in the household don't impede on our views of chastity and what families need to be. We try and teach other women the importance of being mother's, not that they should give up their own independence. We believe that being mother's in the most important role a women can have. They are instrumental in the rearing of children. They are what hold the family together. It's widely said that the first five years of a child's life is when they learn the most. Who better to learn from than your own mother?

To me, Relief Society means friendship. It's an opportunity to know and love and learn from other women from so many different backgrounds and situations and ways of looking at life and yet they are truly my sisters! I can't tell you how many times I have been wrestling with an issue in my own life and there, during the course of our class or other conversation, comes the answer. I know that Heavenly Father so often works through others to answer our prayers, and to me Relief Society is a huge example of that. I'm grateful not only for those who reach out to me, but for the opportunies to reach out to others through Relief Society. It is an inspired program and a wonderful asset to my life!

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Today, Mormons are commonly associated with polygamy, even though the practice was discontinued in the Mormon Church in 1890 - over 120 years ago!
Today there are still some who claim to be Mormon and who practice polygamy, but it should be recognized that they are not part of our Church - anyone belonging to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints today who practices polygamy is excommunicated and their names are removed from our rosters.
In modern revelation, we learn that we are never supposed to practice this unless specifically told to by the Lord (through the prophet) as was the case with Solomon and David in the Old Testament.

Know that we do not want to practice polygamy. I don't know any Mormons who do. We know that if we were asked to, the Lord would help us to understand why, as He will with any commandment. However, until that day (which we do not expect to ever come), we will neither practice it nor look forward to doing so.
