Skyler: Skyler, Indiana, Spanish, Utah, MIssionary, Mormon.

Hi, I'm Skyler

I'm a Spanish speaking missionary in Indiana and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 20 years old. I enjoy outdoor things especially skiing, mountain biking, wake boarding, and water skiing. I love riding motorcycles. All of these I do with my family. When I was younger we decided to adopt two children, my little sister and brother. I can't imagine my life without them, and my entire family. I enjoy studying science and learning about how the world is made. Currently I'm a missionary in Indiana, speaking Spanish.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family but I decided to follow Christ on my own. My parents taught me correct principles and I decided to govern myself and follow the Savior. I don't have an inspirational story to share of how I came to know that this is the true church. That knowledge came to me line upon line. But that doesn't mean that I would ever change who I am... who I decided to be. Because I will never stop being a follower of Jesus Christ. I continue to try my hardest each day of my life to be faithful to His teachings knowing that I don't have to be perfect, and that through his infinite grace, and my diligent effort, I can be perfected one step, one mistake at a time.

There are a thousand elements of my testimony that apply to why I know that this is the church that Christ established. One of those elements is the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. This is more than just a book. It's the word of God. My favorite story in the Book of Mormon is Enos. I relate to Enos a lot because he was a sinner, but then he was forgiven. And just like him when I felt the forgiveness of the Lord Jesus Christ I decided to go and tell everyone about it. The Book of Mormon is true, and because of that I know that Jesus Christ is the son of God and this is His one and only church, of which, I am a member. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That's why I'm a Mormon

Personal Stories

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

Prayer is the simple and vital connection between earth and heaven. Because God is our loving Heavenly Father, he wants to hear from us. Prayer has helped me realize the true nature of God, transforming Him from being an unseen force that is everywhere and nowhere to a literal being, my Father in heaven. I pray all the time, both formally on my knees and casually in my heart while I am out and about. Having a constant connection with God through prayer helps me to make good decisions and know that he's always there for me and always helping me along the way to stay on the right path. I had a job interview and I was really nervous. I wanted to make a good impression and be myself at the same time, so I kept a prayer in my heart saying, "Heavenly Father, help me to stay relaxed and not me nervous." I didn't have to say the words out loud...I know that he hears me. He loves me. I didn't end up getting the job but all throughout the interview I was fine and relaxed. And I found a better job later on anyway!

How I live my faith

Right now I'm in Indiana as a missionary teaching people about our faith. For two years I'll always be seen with a white shirt, tie, name-tag, and a companion with the same features. As missionaries we serve everyone we can find. As for me, I was called to be a Spanish-speaking missionary so I find the Spanish-speaking people and teach them in their native language because everyone, regardless of race or color, needs to find the joy, happiness, and direction that comes from knowing the true plan of God and how to put it into action. When I return to my home in Utah after my missionary time comes to an end, (I refuse to believe that it will end because I love being a missionary so much) I will serve in whatever capacity I am asked to, whether it be with the youth or with the old or as a teacher of a class or whatever it might be. There's no retiring from being a disciple of Christ.
