My name is Weston. I was born in Freemont, CA, but lived almost all my life in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. I have a degree in Economics from Brigham Young university and currently work in the lighting industry. I enjoy fantasy novels, and the martial arts. I am a Mormon

Why I am a Mormon

It is true that I was born to parents that are members of the church, but don't discount me for that reason. I am not a sheep to follow something just because someone says so. I like to work things out for myself, and am a deeply analytical person. Things have to make logical sense. So i delved deeply into the scriptures and the doctrines of the church, and spent long hours pondering and trying to make sense of the many different doctrines associated with gospel. I found that there is a logical reason for each of the different doctrines and that they all fit together to create a marvelously complex and cohesive image of eternity. I have also spent long hours on my knees, praying to god, to know if the things I had studied are true, and I have received a confirmation that they are. This is not a church of "accept it because we say so" or "you just cant understand the things of god". This is a church of "try it a see" and "find out for yourself". As Jesus said in John 7:17 "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of god, or whether I speak of myself." So if you think that I am just some sheep following some rigid dogma, then I dare you to try it and see. And in the end I know you will come to the same conclusion I did. That Jesus is the Christ, that he has restored his church, and the fullness of his doctrine. That all the truths of eternity are being offered to us, if we are only willing to reach out and accept them.

How I live my faith

It's not easy living the gospel of Jesus Christ. I find it is easiest to take it one job, and one day at a time. My job right now is to try and teach a group of 10 to year olds, for two hours every Sunday. Have you ever tried to keep the attention of a two year old for two straight hours? Sometimes its really hard, but it can also be amazing. Nothing is more enjoyable then watching the light in their eyes as I teach them bible stories, or hear them profess that they are children of God. Its a hard world we live in, and I get to live my Faith, by helping children get a head start in a world that will try to keep them down.

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

Husbands and wives have the responsibility to be equal partners in the raising and teaching of their children. In this day and age there are two main categories of responsibility, the work at home, and the work outside the home. The work in the home, is the efforts of the parents to keep a clean and safe home for the children to live in. The work outside the home is meant to bring in monetary aid to pay for the expenses of life. It is the responsibly of parents to see that both get fulfilled. The problem is that both are full time jobs, and as such someone has to take the lead in each area. Generally it is the man that takes the outside work, while the woman takes the work at home. This generally works well since the wife is generally better equipped to help in the emotional development of young children, while men are less skilled in this area. This is not always the case however, and each family must prayerfully decide what is best for their family. Now you must remember I said that one has to take the lead in each. Just because you have the lead in one type of work does not provide an excuse for not assisting your companion in their responsibilities. Both must be willing to assist in any way needed to create the best environment for their family to grow.

Husband and wife in a marriage are meant to be equal, partners. The husband is the head of the household and is responsible for the temporal welfare of his family. His role is to support his wife. The wife is also to support her husband and to nurture her family both spiritually and emotionally. Husband and wife are meant to work side by side in providing a safe haven from the world for their family. Their roles are different, but equally important and essential to building the family and the community.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

For me, God's plan for us is about families, a husband and wife and kids. But all people are children of God who deserve love and respect, including those who have different views about same sex marriage. However, when I really don't know, I turn to what prophets of God have said.

“People inquire about our position on those who consider themselves so-called gays and lesbians. My response is that we love them as sons and daughters of God. They may have certain inclinations which are powerful and which may be difficult to control. Most people have inclinations of one kind or another at various times. If they do not act upon these inclinations, then they can go forward as do all other members of the Church. If they violate the law of chastity and the moral standards of the Church, then they are subject to the discipline of the Church, just as others are.

“We want to help these people, to strengthen them, to assist them with their problems and to help them with their difficulties. But we cannot stand idle if they indulge in immoral activity, if they try to uphold and defend and live in a so-called same-sex marriage situation. To permit such would be to make light of the very serious and sacred foundation of God-sanctioned marriage and its very purpose, the rearing of families” (Ensign, Nov. 1998, 71).

When I think of how hard this must be for many, I think of our faith in Jesus Christ. He loves us and has given us guidance through prophets, we just need to follow.
