Hi, I'm Athena
I love to cook and bake, to sew and create, to read, to write, to learn and to grow. And I love being a "Mormon".
About Me
When I was young my mother used to make a lot of my clothing, and I learned to sew from watching her. As I grew older I began to make my own clothing, with tendencies leaning toward Historical and Period outfits, Cosplays and Formal Clothing. The ability to see the potential in materials and objects, to make something new and original is both exhilarating and enjoyable.
There are several outfits that I am currently working on, but none is more important than my Temple Dress which I will be able wear when I am able to enter the Lord's house to preform the Ordinances thereof. I look forward to, and am grateful for being able to enter the Temple and obtain the blessings offered to us there. And I am also grateful that I have been blessed with talents and opportunities to expand upon them.
Why I am a Mormon
I am a Mormon because The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints makes sense and is true.
Yes, I was born to Latter Day Saint Members, and I was raised in the light of the Gospel; but I promise you that these factors do not make me biased. I have had plenty of opportunities throughout my life to decided whether or not I want to follow the teachings of the Church, and if I did not have a testimony of the truth of the Gospel, I would not be here now.
You see, one of the most wonderful things about the Gospel of Jesus Christ is that it invites everyone to study it's precepts and teachings, and experiment to see if they (the teachings) are true or not. From the “little things” like the council of daily scripture study and the paying of tithes; to the choices to follow the Word of Wisdom or to live a Temple-worthy life, the teachings of our Lord through his Prophets invites everyone to perform the tests and determine if the Blessings of Heaven really are poured out upon our heads.
Of course, this hardly means that life is peaches and cream and that everything will be perfect immediately; but the knowledge of the Great Plan of Happiness, and the assurety that all will be well in the Eternal scheme of things, allows me to continue to have faith, to look forward, and to learn and grow that I might be the best that I possibly can. After all, I cannot see the end, nor can I know what is coming next, but I can believe that God is watching over me and as long as I am trying to live my life as he would have me do, that things will come out all right in the end.
How I live my faith
I recently received the call to teach a Sunday School class about Family History and I am most excited about it! The opportunity to learn more about the work the occurs here on Earth for our families in the Spirit World is a fantastic opportunity, and I look forward to share what I learn with the people in the class.
