Hi, I'm Rebecca Mecham
I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Utah and Arizona. I am the wife to one sweet man. I have 3 children. I live in Poland.
About Me
As a young child I wanted a pack of sled dogs and a medical degree. I told my mother I would like to be burried one day in my soccer cleats and jeans. I was a tom boy. As I got older I decided that I would rather have a husband and children than sled dogs and I earned my degree in nursing. I have moved all over the United States with my husband and currently we live in Poland with our three children. I like to run, read, play the piano, ski, swim, listen to music of all kinds, garden, craft, travel, try new foods, make friends and visit with friends and family. I think the best sport to play is soccer. I love to watch baseball! Currently I am homeschooling my children. I like being involved in my community and keeping neighborhoods safe.
Why I am a Mormon
Though I was born into a family where both parents were already lifelong members of the LDS faith and I was raised being taught its core beliefs, I would have to say that my "true conversion" didn't come until I was a teenager. I had multiple moments in my life that built on my testimony. (Like the day I was baptized at 8 years old and my father told me that Heavenly Father was pleased with my decision to get baptized. The Holy Ghost witnessed the truthfullness of that to me with a burning inside that I will never forget.) However, as a teenager I had a bishop who told me that Heavenly Father knew who I was and that He desired that I know that he loved me. "He will not hold that information from you.", was his promise, "but you must ask." I found a quiet place and knelt down and I asked Heavenly Father if he knew me and if He loved me. In that moment I was completely encompassed with an undescribable love that has altered my opinion of myself and instantly changed my life. To know who I am, a daughter of the King of the universe, and where I came from and to have a personal relationship with the most High God changed everything! Heavenly Father has a personal interest in me and I know it. It makes me want be kinder, gives me more self control, and I find it easy to seek after things that will always make me happy. In return, people are kinder to me, I am able to make choices that come with good consequences and I am happy. It is a knowledge that blesses my marriage and my children, especially my daughter.
Personal Stories
Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?
I want to share the gospel with my friends just like I want to share any great new news with them! If I were to go out and get engaged I would be very excited! I would want to change my facebook profile to "engaged" and call all my family and friends and share the great news! If I had just won the clearing house sweepstakes I would be so excited I would call my friends! Imagine all the good that could be done with that money? I could help my friends in many ways! It could change their lives... right?! I look at sharing the gospel in a similar way. I am genuinely excited about the news of the gospel! I get butterflies thinking about it! I am constatnly amazed at how it changes people lives and makes them so happy! I find great pleasure in seeing others happy! It is exciting to watch the metamorphisis that takes place in people when they hear and understand the truthfullness of where they came from, where they are going, that they can live with their families forever because life goes beyond the grave! It is life changing for people to talk to the Almighty for the first time and to build a personal relationship with Heavenly Father! I get so excited when an individual who feels so alone comes to a realization that he/she is a child of God! I relish in watching the burdens lift off the individual who has carried the weight of bad mistakes and guilt for a lifetime! I am delighted to share the gospel with friends because I have been blessed with a true message that all I have to do is deliver it and Heavenly Father will do the rest.
I share the gospel by living it! I share the gospel by telling others the news. I share the gospel by teaching it to my children. I share the gospel through service to others. I share the gospel by baring my testimony.
How has attending Church services helped you?
Attending church each week has helped me have a better understanding of gospel teachings. Just like going to school each day makes us learn a little more of what we learned the day before, going to church frequently helps me understand gospel principles. Line upon line, precept upon precept. Life has a way of throwing curve balls. I can go to church every week for 10 years and then something happens in my life, perhaps a trial or even a tragedy, and that same principle that has been taught for 10 years will make perfect sence to me. If I don't take each opportunity to go then I feel like I am robbing myself of a potential opportunity to understand something that can bless my life. By taking the time to frequently attend church services, I am acknowledging that I am willing to learn more. The Holy Ghost can testify to me anywhere that I am. However, when there are many members all worshiping in the same place and at the same time and each of them has a prayer in their heart to learn and understand more, there is an understanding that happens that might not happen durning a busy day full of the hustle and bustle of life. Attending church not only has spiritual uplifts, but there is also an advantage socially to attend church with others who have a genuine concern for you and the well being of people in general. There is an undeniable mental shift and cleanse that comes from worship each week. It is like spring cleaning my brain, re-focusing on the things that matter most, and purging my life of the waste before it consumes it.
How I live my faith
I have always enjoyed participating in my wards and branch. They are a place where the relationships that I have with others have become dearest friendships. No matter where I go in the world, I find a friend in the ward or branch I am in. Many of those friendships have been made while serving in callings within the church. I played the piano for every meeting possible on Sunday and during the week when I lived in Florida. Sometimes I played for weddings and funerals of people I didn't even know in the community. Such a small thing brought me great pleasure! I have taught gospel lessons to the women and the young children but my favorite place to serve has always been with the youth aged young women of the church. They shine! They are so happy and full of life and promise! I have organized many camp events and youth service activities with them. Currently I live in a small branch. Here I have much more opportunity to serve among my friends. I teach two young boys Sunday lessons, play piano for meetings, teach the young single adults once a week outside of church and I even get to help make a bulletin each week! One of my favorite things to do is fix dinner for the missionaries of our church. They are always so happy and grateful! They bring a wonderful message each time they sit at our table.
It is easy for me to live my faith. I always have a friend, somebody to call and something worth while to do! Serving others is a way to show love but its majical in a sense: While showing your love through service you feel accomplished and loved and build life long relationships that have debth to them. Life is more full!
