I am in high school. I love to do Marching Band, i Play Percussion with two of my sisters. i want to become an adoption lawyer when i get out of high school. I am number 8 out of 10 kids. i love to share the gosple with those who want it, needs it and just who wants to make conversations.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day-Saints. My parents were converts like some people are even today. but i am so lucky to be brought up with the gosple in my life. i just want to share my testimony on the power of the holy ghost. i know that when i need him he is there for me. i am so grateful that when i was 8 years old i was able to be baptized by my father and have the gift of the holy ghost given to me. i just want to say that i know this church is true and i know Joseph Smith was and is still a true prophet. i also know that Thomas S. Monson is the true and living prophet on the earth today and i say these things in the name of jesus christ. Amen.

How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?

the book of mormon has brought me closer to god because i have read through it alot and i have prayed and pondered about it... i have talked to my bishop about it..everytime i read it it brings me closer i can feel it and i know it.

How I live my faith

i am from the Indianapolis 2nd ward. i am a class president. we participate in days of service, special olympics, we do good deeds for other. and much more. we also have the privllage to go to youth dances if you are 14-18. you get to meet alot of new people and get to know your friends more.

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

No! The practice of polygamy by faithful Mormons ended September 24, 1890. Mormons today do not practice or preach or in any way condone the practice of plural marriage. If you hear or read about any group of people practicing polygamy you can be absolutely certain that they are not members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Any LDS church member practicing polygamy today would be immediately excommunicated from the church.

QUESTION: Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

This is a good honest question that deserves an honest answer. My great-great-grandfather who joined the church in 1835 was a polygamist. If you are a Christian that believes in the Holy Bible and ancient prophets, you believe in and accept the fact that God has the right to authorize plural marriage when He sees the need, and He has the right to revoke that same commandment when He sees the need to do so. Many of the ancient prophets had plural wives such as Moses, Abraham, and Isaac. If you believe in the Holy Bible, you must accept this fact. But you also know that for most of human history God commanded men to have only one wife. The key here is to do what God commands, and don’t do what He forbids.

The period of time when Joseph Smith (1820-1844) was called of God to restore the “fullness of the gospel” to the earth, many important laws and ordinances were revealed and restored to the earth that had existed anciently. The power of the priesthood, temple ordinances, and the practice of plural marriage were part of that restoration.

But in 1890 the Lord directed the living prophet Wilford Woodruff to end the practice of Plural marriage. Since that time the Mormon Church has not authorized any such practice. This is a great example that demonstrates how important it is to follow living prophets who receive direction from the living God for our day.

No. Today many stories fly in the news and other media outlets that try to purport that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints still practices polygamy. In 1890 Church President Wilford Woodruff prohibited the continued practice of performing polygamous marriages in the Church through his issuing what is now called "The Manifesto" see D&C, Official Declaration 1. However, some members did not agree with this stand and as a result a schism occurred within the Church. Some disaffected members left and created new congregations and churches outside of the realm of the LDS leadership and authority. These are the groups who still practice polygamy today. Some of those groups are the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints well known for recent events in Texas or the Apostolic United Brethren that are often depicted in the media as "Mormons" today. At times they may claim to be Mormons, however they are not associated with the LDS Church or the leadership that is headquartered at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Come to church with us! We would love to have you. I know attending an unfamiliar church meeting can be scary and intimidating. Feel free to go up to anyone you meet and tell them this is your first time coming. You should always feel welcome to come and attend with us. Mormon church meetings may be different than other church meetings you've attended. We typically have three meetings you can attend. Our main meeting, we call Sacrament Meeting, is intended for individuals and families to attend together. Sit up front, sit in the back. There are no assigned seats. In this meeting, we try to focus on the sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ. You will hear several prayers and gospel messages given in this meeting. Another meeting we have on Sunday is Sunday-School. This meeting is designed to focus on specific teachings of Christ. It is often somewhat interactive, with some class members asking questions of the teacher throughout the lesson. You are free to ask questions or simply sit back and listen. We hope you feel a genuine spirit of warmth and friendship as you attend. The final meeting we have on Sunday is a Priesthood or Relief-Society meeting. Men and attend the Priesthood meeting and women attend Relief-Society. Here we focus on the teachings of Christ that are appropriate to our roles as men and women. You should also feel free to participate, ask questions, or simply sit back and listen.
