Hi, I'm Mickey

I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, spent 3-1/2 years on a nuclear submarine, and now live in colorful Colorado. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was a cheerleader at the University of Kentucky and was at UCLA's coach Wooden's last game in the 70's. I was also a gymnast at Kentucky. I spent six years in the Navy Nuclear Power Program. I was stationed in Charleston, SC on a fast attack submarine for 3-1/2 years as an Electronics Technician and Reactor Operator. I had the opportunity to work at a commercial gas cooled nuclear power plant for five years and then as a consultant for the Department of Energy at a nuclear facility for another five years, all in Colorado. I completed my Master's in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Denver and I'm currently an electrical power engineering consultant. I have the opportunity to work with all forms of power; conventional coal, natural gas, coal bed methane, wind, solar, and hydro. I do both utility work and work on distributed resource projects.

I have been married for 29 years and have a wonderful companion who is truly my best friend. I have a step-daughter whom I've had the pleasure of being a part of her life since she was six years old. She has given us two wonderful grandsons. We have three other children, a boy and two girls, all in their twenties.

Although we are average golfers at best, my wife and I love to play golf together.

Why I am a Mormon

When I meet my wife to be there was something about her that intrigued me, but I could not exactly put my finger on. I was also really into fitness and the Word of Wisdom interested me. I decided I wanted to know more about her and the way she lived her life. I contacted her and inquired about when the church held meetings. At the time I was in the Navy stationed in Great Lakes, IL, so we were some miles apart. Having grown up going to church, I decided go to church one Sunday; I just showed up and went to church. An elderly missionary couple noticed that I was a little lost and invited me to attend the meetings with them. They extended to me an invitation to take the missionary lessons and teach me the gospel. My wife to be gave me my first book of Mormon to read, study and pray about. A few weeks later, she attended my baptism.

How I live my faith

As my son was growing up I was active in the Boy Scouts. My father was a Scout leader, so I wanted to share this with my son. We had many fun times scouting together. I had the opportunity to teach the youth in the young men’s programs and now I’m able to serve in the Sunday school program. As I have gotten older, I love visiting and home teaching in our church. It is wonderful time to serve and make wonderful and long lasting friendships.

What do Mormons believe about the Holy Ghost? Who is the Holy Ghost?

The Holy Ghost is a Comforter, a Guide and a Testifier. The Holy Ghost will comfort and will teach you; will guide you in your trip through life; and, will bear witness of God the Father and Jesus Christ, his Son. You must be willing to do your part as well to receive this gift.

Once you are baptized, confirmation has two parts: (1) to confirm as a member of the Church, and (2) then to confer the gift of the Holy Ghost. The priesthood holder performing that ordinance “bestows the gift of the Holy Ghost by saying, ‘Receive the Holy Ghost’”.

“The Holy Ghost … opens the vision of the mind, unlocks the treasures of wisdom, and they begin to understand the things of God. …” (President Brigham Young).

Communication with the Holy Ghost seldom comes audibly. Most of the time it comes through your feeling: “…your bosom shall burn within you…” by the gift of the Holy Ghost you can know if things are right by asking faithfully in your prayers.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Love the sinner, not the sin. We do not uplift or support it in any way. We try to help those overcome this serious and difficult urge of same-gender attraction. To some it is very serious, they feel they are 'borne' that way. Others feel great peer pressure, some are simply curious. Not matter the case, it is simply wrong. It is not ordained of God, and God does not take it lightly. To those who may struggle with this very urge, as you avoid it, and try to overcome it, God will strengthen you. Some people struggle with an addiction toward pornography, or cigarettes, some it might a seemingly over-powering urge toward alcohol, or to some, same-gender attraction. No matter the urge, they are all not of God and all Satan's devices to bring down worthy and righteous souls down to his level of misery. The family is ordained of God and it is our responsibility to uplift and support the family in any way we can.
