Hi, I'm Kristie
I grew up in Utah, am a Labor & Delivery Nurse, have two goofy dogs, and married the love of my life, Jeff! I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I grew up in South Jordan, UT, then moved to St. George, Utah to attend school at Dixie State College of Utah. I met my husband during my freshman year of college, and we were married in June 2007. I was studying to become a Registered Nurse, and graduated in December 2009 as an RN. Since then, we have moved several times for my husband's rigorous schooling! He is currently in graduate school to become a Pharmacist, and I myself work as a Labor & Delivery nurse. Do I love what I do? ABSOLUTELY! :) My hobbies include playing with my dogs (and taking them for long walks), gardening and working in the yard, playing the piano, basketball, vamping up old furniture and decorating, designing crafts and flower arrangements, shopping, photography, and spending time with my family and friends. We love visiting our family who is far away, and I know they like visiting us as well! We are huge football fans in my family, and my husband played some college football. Thus, you will never see my husband missing a BYU or UTAH football game.
Why I am a Mormon
I am a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints! I have always had the gospel in my life, because I was blessed with parents who taught me early on the importance of faith, hope, and charity, as well as a love for Jesus Christ and his teachings. Also, it became apparent to me at an early age what joy we had in knowing that we have a living Prophet on this earth, who gives us guidance through times of great difficulty. There was a time period early on in my adolescent years in which I neglected my testimony of the church, and altogether stopped wanting to believe. This was in part because of being the oldest child, rebellious, and wanting to be my own person! But, because I have such wonderful parents, and a dad who is my hero, this time period did not last long. One year, the LDS church decided to dedicate a beautiful program to the amazing Prophet who helped restore the gospel to the earth, Joseph Smith. It was called "Praise to the Man", and our church members had been working very hard on the musical numbers for this program. I was asked to play the piano during this song, and remember very strongly how the words to this song as well as many others flowed through my heart, and burned into me the knowledge of just how amazing the gospel has been in my life. On the night of the performance, tens of thousands of LDS people gathered into the football stadium in Utah to sing together praises, and I had tears running down my face. I have never stopped believing in this beautiful gospel since that time, and have a sure testimony that Jesus is the Christ, and our brother. He suffered for our sins, so that one day, we might be perfect and return to live with Him and our Father in Heaven. I have a sure knowledge of eternal families, and am full of joy knowing that we can be with the ones we love FOREVER! I am so blessed to be LDS, and want the world to know!
Personal Stories
In what ways have your prayers been answered?
I strongly believe that our Heavenly Father listens to each and every one of our prayers, no matter how big or small. The important thing to remember, however, is that if He is to do His part in answering our prayers, we much do ours. I remember when I was in nursing school, there was a Pharmacology test that I had not prepared for very well. I was too busy attending football games and spending time with friends to pay attention to the impending test that was to drown me! Needless to say, prayer alone was not enough to save me from the C- I had so rightfully deserved. (Luckily, through doing things the right way, I was able to manage an overall B in the class!) When Nursing School had reached it's dreadful end, it was time to study for the NCLEX, or Registered Nurse certification boards. I truly believe that I could not have passed it just by studying alone. Don't get me wrong, I studied for an entire month, 6 days a week, 4 hours a day, and not once missed the commitments I had made to myself! When I went to sleep at night, I said a prayer requesting help to remember all that I had studied throughout nursing school, as well as what I was reviewing. When the time came to take the Boards, I finished in a blazing 43 minutes, and passed with flying colors! I still remember running out and calling my dad immediately, saying, "I don't know if I passed, because the test seemed TOO easy! That's a bad sign, right!?" Nevertheless, the 72 hours passed with SO SLOWLY, but when the time came for me to find out if I was a Registered Nurse, tears flooded my eyes when I found out through a friend that my name was in bold letters under the current nurse licensures for the State of Utah! I truly believe that Heavenly Father is always interested in our concerns and wishes to help us, if only we will allow him the chance, and do our part to show him how much we truly care about our requests.
How I live my faith
My husband and I work with the small children ages 18 months-3 years in our ward! On the Sundays that we are available, we will watch the children and play with them, so that their families can attend meetings, teach, or fulfill their individual callings. We also teach the kids many different lessons at this age to help them to one day become faithful members of the church. Some of our lessons taught include honesty, love, learning to be like Jesus, serving our friends and family, and many other simple principles that are easy to comprehend at this age, but will become very valuable as they continue to grow and learn. I have always loved kids, and find great joy in working with them and getting to know every personality! Also, on occasion, I will help out with musical numbers as I have played the piano all of my life. We love working with the missionaries, and enjoy teaming up with them to help our neighbors, or friends in the community that may be struggling and in need of a strengthening message.
