Hi, I'm Shirley N.
I'm a Mormon. I am a Grandmother and I write and illustrate children's stories.
About Me
I am a Grandmother. I have written and illustrated many stories for children. I have had many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have had diabetes since 1972, so I guess this is my test in life. It has given me some understanding of others who have had illnesses. It has not stopped me from doing the things I love to do.
I love the gospel very much. I believe in Christ and the Church. It is true, without a doubt. I am so grateful to have been part of this church. I have a terrific family and eight wonderful grandchildren. This church has given us a strength and love for family. Jesus Christ has atoned for us and brings closeness to our Heavenly Father, Him, and the Holy Ghost.
Sometimes life is hard, but if we strive to be close to the Lord we will be able to be with Him and with our Heavenly Father when we pass on to eternal life, if we endure and love others. I can't wait to be able to be our eternal family there.
Why I am a Mormon
I would like to share a poem with you that I wrote, which honors Christ. He is our Savior and He died for us. Our Father in Heaven, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are very special.
QUIET, LOVING SERVICE
When Christ touched eyes and made them see,
Helped lame men walk, or calmed the sea,
His deeds were done in quiet.
He asked their silence for acts performed.
He healed the lepers, limbs deformed,
A quiet, loving service.
He asked no fame, no praise or gain.
A woman, healed, once touched his hem,
A quiet faith revealing.
The deeds performed by him were wonders,
He stilled the lightning and the thunders,
A quiet, calm command.
They scorned him, beat him, nailed him there
Upon the cross, with little care.
They crucified our savior.
He never cursed the pain or trials he
Underwent, or the denials
Of those he loved.
He bore the pain, though tears did fall.
He asked forgiveness of them all,
The quiet gesture of a king.
Exalted now upon a throne,
He still remembers all his own
And loves them still.
The life he lived was filled with wonder,
All done simply, quietly under
Heavenly Father's plan.
His glorious deeds were done with love,
A humble offering to God above,
His quiet duties filling.
To follow Christ, we will perform
Our deeds of service through the warm
And silent promptings of the spirit.
We will not seek for thanks or pride,
But for the calm and peaceful side
Of quiet acts we render.
Remaining true to the belief
In giving love and kind relief
To those in need of cheer.
We will not seek for prideful pleasure,
Wanting a much greater treasure,
To gain Eternal Life.
Personal Stories
What blessings have come through your faith in Jesus Christ?
With faith in Jesus Christ we can be safe from the evil influences that are in our world today. We can keep the commandments and honor our Savior. It is through Him that we may be saved.
How I live my faith
We have served in the church's many organizations. My husband and I have served in the Family History Center and have taught classes. We have over 95,000 names in our genealogy file. We have had lots of fun doing this. All of the names are linked. I have researched names for fun sometimes, too, because they fit into our genealogy - Walt Disney, Laura Ingles Wilder, and some of the prophets, royalty, and also some of the "so called" witches tried by Puritans - [They were innocent]). They were tried in Salem, Massachusetts by some whose lives were confused with their religious beliefs. The royal names have interesting histories, and some were in the "dark ages." It is because of this research that we have expanded to so many names. (I think Most of our genealogy names are direct. I love the histories, which make the names come to life. They were real people, and I can't wait to meet them after this life ends and Heaven begins.
