Hi, I'm Cindy
I grew up in Texas, and enjoy reading, sewing, cooking, and helping folks with their family history. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am a mother of five children (four boys & one girl), and a grandmother of 17 grandchildren. I grew up in the Methodist church, in Texas, and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints (Mormon), one month before my 16th birthday. The things that cause me the most happiness, involve helping and serving others. My grandchildren do not live in the same state as my husband and I, so I am found traveling to visit them every couple of months. I enjoy making things that I can share with others, and working on family history, and helping others with their family history. I also love to travel and love languages. While growing up in Texas, I was around some rich diversity in the city where I lived, and even though there is not as much diversity in the city I live in now, I love being around people of all cultures and back grounds.
Why I am a Mormon
Being a Mormon is a way of life for me. While growing up in Texas, during my teenage years, I became quite dissatisfied with what I was taught at the church I was attending. When the Missionaries brought the gospel message to my family and I, I felt within my heart and soul that it was the answer I had been looking for. At that time, I did not know how to pray, except over a meal, but the Missionaries were kind enough to teach me how to pray to Heavenly Father (God). I have come to know through prayer and reading my scriptures, that Heavenly Father loves me and knows who I am, and I know that He wants the best for me. I also, know that in order to be happy, we must do our best to serve and help others, always.
Personal Stories
Why do Mormons do family history or genealogy work?
Mormons who do family history work and genealogy are working at finding information on their ancestors, so that their ancestors can be tied to them. A good percentage of people want to find their heritage; their roots, and to discover that special connection of where their families came from, and what their life was like long ago. Also, Mormons do work vicariously in Mormon temples for their ancestors who have passed from this life, who did not have the opportunity to be taught the Gospel while on the earth.
How I live my faith
I live my religion by tying to be a good example of a believer in Jesus Christ. I serve at the Family History Center in my community once a week, to help patrons who come in, with their family history. I am also available to help others outside the Family History Center, and am trying to simplify my life more, so that I will have more time for helping others. I love living around people who are not of my faith; there is so much I can learn from them, and after all, they are my brothers and sisters in the gospel. All of my relatives on my mom and dad's sides are non-members, except for two second cousins. Sunday is the most important day of the week for me; it is the day I worship God through Jesus Christ, our Savior, by attending church, and partaking of His sacrament of bread and water that has been blessed by young men who hold the priesthood of God. I am far from perfect, but I will always choose to follow God's plan for me, rather than Satan's.
