I was a Teacher, but I resigned to work my dream job as a stay at home mom. I'm married with 4 kids and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a college graduate and paid my way through school by being a Home Loan Officer. After I married, I continued in the work force as an Administrative Assistant for a University. When my husband graduated from college we relocated to California, where I began teaching. But when the opportunity arose for me to quit working and simply raise children, I jumped at the chance. Today I am a mom of four beautiful, inspiring children. While they at times this can be a challenging task, it is the most rewarding job I have ever had.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church. I know it is the only church that has the fullness of Christ's gospel restored, just as it was when the Savior lived here on Earth. And once you know this, you have to be a Mormon. But being a member of the church brings a peace to me that I could never trade for anything. Because I'm a Mormon and I live as I know Jesus wants me to, I have the blessing of an eterenal family, a knowledge of my purpose here on Earth, and a plan to return to Heaven.

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you?

The Savior's atonement has had the most profound affect on my life. Understanding the personal application of the atonement, in that he suffered for me and specifically my sins; so that I might be able to repent of them and be perfected through Christ, governs all my actions. Whenever I do sin, it bothers me that I caused the Savior to suffer for me, for that mistake. And it inspires me to live better, do better.

How I live my faith

I've had a lot of callings in the church but I presently have the honor of working with the 12-18 year old young women in our ward. I help organize activities and teach the young women on Sundays. I also have three women in the ward that I visit once a month to share a message about our Savior and his gospel.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

This is probably the most frequent misconception I get asked about as a Mormon. We don't worship Joseph Smith. We as a church worship God, the Father and his son Jesus Christ. We revere Joseph Smith as a Prophet just as we revere the Prophets of old like Moses and Abraham. Just as I honor and respect our current prophet and President of the church, Thomas S. Monson. But I worship my Heavenly Father and my Savior, Jesus Christ.

No. I've never even met the man.

One night I was on the front row of a concert. A big star came to the edge of the stage and held out his hand. EVERYONE rushed forward, climbing over each other, pushing and wedging themselves along, just to touch him. I almost got caught up in that too, and was about to rush ahead when a little voice kicked in "He's just a man. What's the big deal?" At that moment I vowed to never adulate anything less than deity. I will not go to my knees for anyone but a Loving God.

I respect Joseph Smith like I respect any man who tries his best to live according to his conscience. I hope maybe one day I'll get to chat with him over lunch--or over whatever kind of meal they offer in the life beyond. But I cannot worship a man, for why should I place and value one person any higher than another?

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

At many times in the Bible prophets were commanded to practice polygamy. Some of these prophets were Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, and Solomon.

We know that plural marriage is a sin unless God commands us to practice it. In the Book of Mormon the prophet Jacob tells the Lords will on the subject, “for there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife: and concubines he shall have none... for if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things” (Jacob 2:27-30).

So only as the Lord commands His people is it acceptable. While they early saints accepted this it was not an easy commandment to keep. They had many struggles with it and only under the direction of the Lord was it carried out. The Church leaders closely supervised the practice and only those who had been authorized by the Lord were to practice. In addition to that all of the marriages had to be performed by the sealing power of the priesthood which had been restored. It was not a temporary thing when it was practiced.

In 1890, President Woodruff received revelation that plural marriage was no longer acceptable to the Lord. So the practice was stopped instantly. Anyone who practices polygamy now is NOT a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
