Hi, I'm Ryan Anthony Moreno
I'm a soldier of God, I'm a missionary, and I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I grew up in the church, my parents and family were sealed to me in the Oakland Temple, in my early teen years my family was doing very well financially but we grew apart as a family becuase of it. When the market crashed we lost everything, my family grew even further apart, my sister fell in with the wrong crowed, my parents fell away and divorced, I continued to go to church every sunday, I would walk forty minutes there and back just to get there. I moved out of my mom's house when she started seeing other people and later moved in with my father to find work. Now I'm serving a full time mission and my family is growing closer to the church again through my example.
Why I am a Mormon
Well, I grew up in the church but now I'm the last man standing, everyone around me growing up made fun of me for choosing to stick with a religion that my own family fell away from and restricted me from going to parties, being with girls and "enjoying" life. I'm a mormon because I found out for myself that this is Heavenly Father's church and we worship Him and Jesus Christ, that this is the only way that I'll be able to see my family again after this life and be with them forever, which includes the wonderful woman I'll marry someday.
Personal Stories
Please share your feelings/testimony of the Restoration of the Gospel.
Without the Restoration we would still be lost, searching constantly for revelation and hope that was no longer there, and there would be no point to life, to go on without sacred knowledge and not knowing of sacred ordinances. Without the Restoration how would we know of eternal families, or the nature of God? How would we know how to get back to him and have the fullness of his gospel to follow him as best we can? How would we ever be able to show our devotion to Him if we didn't know how to seek out his words and his teachings? All these things are necessary, and the priesthood that was restored with it was also necessary to complete all these tasks, or we would all be lost, not having further revelation or teaching to seek out our own salvation. The Restoration is the greatest thing on earth to all those who seek Eternal Life and happiness forever.
Please share your feelings/testimony of Joseph Smith.
My testimony is that through a young man's faith and wanting to follow Christ as closely as he can, he showed his faith in him by following the words of the prophets in a scripture (James 1:5) and followed them exactly. In such an act of faith Joseph Smith saw the Father and the Son, and received instructions to become a prophet and restore the true church of Christ on earth once again. And the ultimate tool to build the Kingdom of God once again was the Book of Mormon, the word of God and a continuation of revelation to the children of men. And I testify that if the Book of Mormon is true then everything that Joseph Smith has done is the will of God and testifies of His goodness and glory, and shows the entire world that Heavenly Father still loves all of mankind and desires us to come closer to him. And this is the way restored by Christ through Joseph Smith. Amen.
Why do Mormons go on missions?
The reason that I myself have gone on a mission is simply to spread the word that the true church of Christ has been restored to earth once more and is organized as it ways during the ministry of Christ on earth. However the message is different for everyone that I teach or talk to, many need to know that there is a prophet again on the earth, many need to know that there is eternal marriage and that families can be together forever, many need to hear that the grace and mercy of Christ save their unbaptized children and that they are in the arms of God and do not suffer for eternity, and others need to know that they CAN repent and come closer to God, that they ARE the children of Heavenly Father and that he wants to hear their wants and desires so that he can comfort them. This is just a fraction of the message of the restoration of Christs' gospel and of his love and grace. And this is why so many of us go on missions so that we can stand as witnesses of all these wonderful things that He has to offer, and help others come unto him by our testimonies and by the Holy Ghost. This message should be and must be shared by as many as desire to and we are not forced to, nor is a requirement of the church, but to not share this message with others is to deny many people salvation, to go on a mission is of massive importance to the world.
How does making right choices help us make more right choices?
It's sort of like "practice makes perfect", if you don't start making right choices then you don't get in the habit of continuing those good choices. Same thing if you decide to make a wrong choice, eventually it becomes a habit and it get harder to quit the further you get into it.
How has attending Church services helped you?
Church is a crucial part to growing spiritually, it gives us the necessary things to continue learning. It puts us in a place where there is a singular goal in everyone's mind, that is to serve God, come closer to Him, pledge our loyalty to Him through the sacrament and our devotion to keeping the Sabbath day holy, and to further ourselves in His gospel. It also provides us with friends so that we can enjoy the company of others who share the same desires as us and encourage us to continue in our faith.
Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?
The reasons I share it are the same as why I believe in it, I desire that one day I will live in the presence and glory of the Father and the Son WITH my family in the fullness of joy, namely my parents, my sister and her family, my extended family everywhere such as my aunts and uncles and their children, and my grandparents, as well as the (unfortunate :P) young woman who will marry me and my posterity who will come by her. I want everyone to know that there is a hope and a light that Christ himself has shown unto us that we can all be with Him again and progress eternally, I want the world to know that they no longer have to live in darkness and misery. How I do this is by furthering my own knowledge in Christ's gospel and emerse myself in the Book of Mormon, couple this with having the spirit with you and you will be able to teach and expound with strength and boldness the likes of which your friends and family will be astonished, and the spirit will testify to them of what you say is true and that the Book of Mormon is true. If you need more to help you, find a "Preach my Gospel" book and study it, it will give you the necessary tools on how to begin teaching and increase your confidence in yourself.
How I live my faith
I want to spread the word that Heavenly Father still loves his children and that he has a plan for us, that we can return to him and become like him, and that he wants us to be happy for all of eternity, so I live my faith by becoming a better man and preparing myself to become a husband and father, I serve our Lord by being a full time missionary and spreading the message of His restored gospel.
