Hi, I'm Jeff
High School graduate, Eagle Scout, Mormon.
About Me
My top few passions are for baseball, music, and serving others. All 3 pass time, can get frustrating or even difficult at times, but always make me feel great in the end. I am currently at home, preparing myself to be able to serve a full time mission. Most of my free time I play video games, watch tv, hang out with friends...normal teenage stuff. I go to a lot of concerts. I graduated high school in June of 2011. Although I never made any horribly big mistakes or did anything really bad, I was not always the best example of my faith. Lately, this has been weighing heavily on me, and it is 100% my biggest regret. I know that this is the gospel of Christ, and there is nothing else out there that can lead you to such happiness and peace as this gospel can. The Book of Mormon truly is the word of God. Joseph Smith translated the book from the plates. He was our first latter-day prophet, and Thomas S. Monson is our current prophet, and I love that man! Jesus Christ died for you and me, and through him we may be saved. Through the Holy Ghost, we may receive guidance in our daily lives, and confirmation of the reality and correctness of the gospel as well as the Book of Mormon.
Why I am a Mormon
For as long as I can remember I have been going to this church. As a child, I remember that some weeks we would go and other weeks we would stay home, but it all just depended on what we felt like doing. As time went on, we started going more and more. I was baptized in November of 2001 when I was 8. Going to church was always just something I did. It was normal for me. Anytime I don't go to church for whatever reason, I feel different for the rest of the week. In my teenage years, as with many teenagers, I rebelled to a point. I decided to follow my more worldly feelings instead of the spiritual ones. Although I would do it, sitting for 3 hours listening to people talk at you was not appealing, and that simple "I'm bored" attitude turned into "I really don't want to go." Once I started thinking about it, I realized how wrong that line of thinking was. I realized how much more miserable I had become with that attitude. Active participation in church and having an open mind and heart were the major factors. I decided that I would make the discovery for myself. I started paying attention and doing some serious self-examination. Most importantly, I PRAYED. I prayed to know whether the Church was true, whether the Book of Mormon was true, whether or not God even cared about me. I was without a doubt reassured that the answer to all three questions was a resounding, "YES!" There is no doubt in my mind that this is the gospel of Christ. By him and Through him, we may all achieve eternal life, as well as incredible happiness and peace here on Earth. There is no other way for me to live. I cannot live without this church.
How I live my faith
The way the age groups were spread in my ward, I was almost always alone. The oldest kid behind me is 4 years younger, and the youngest in front of me was a year and a half older. Because of each group in the youth being for 2 years, I was alone most of the time. Therefore, I served as Deacons quorum president (12-13 year old boys), Teachers quorum president (14-15) and now Priest's Quorum first assistant to the Bishop (16-17). I am very grateful to be able to serve in these callings, most especially the Priest's quorum. I have had numerous opportunities to teach the lessons, and the old adage "you learn the most by teaching" surely is true. When our leaders need a hand with something or need help organizing and planning activities, I am usually the one that they call. I have had many chances to speak to the entire congregation in Sacrament meeting as well.
November of this year I was called to be a Ward Missionary. I am out with our missionaries usually 3-6 lessons a week, and even had the chance to take the place of one while he was in zone meetings. I love my calling.
The Young Men's President in the ward is my home teaching companion currently, and we try to go home teaching as regularly as possible. A great portion of my time throughout the week is spent communicating with the missionaries in the ward, very often going on lessons or helping them do things.
I am preparing to serve a full time mission. I recently came to the conclusion that I am unable and unworthy to go preach the word of God to the world if I am unable to even talk to my friends about it. I took this to heart. Lately, I have been trying to be more open about my faith, even giving a Book of Mormon and sharing my testimony with my best friend over ice cream. It is very simple to talk to your friends about the gospel, for if they are truly your friends they will be open to know what makes you different.
