Hi, I'm Catherine Baker

I'm a Mormon, and I'm proud to be one. I grew up in La'ie, Hawaii, and I like to draw.

About Me

I am currently a freshman in high school. My hobbies are hanging out with my family and friends, playing Pokemon and Magic, drawing, reading, watching anime, and taking pictures. I like making friends, and I hope to be able to get along with other people that I don't know so well. I am protective of my friends, and can be fairly annoying. I love any and all kinds of animals, but turtles are one of my favorites. I like writing poetry. I play in band, the flute and the bassoon. I believe strongly that people should be able to make their own choices, and that they will be punished and/or rewarded accordingly.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into this church, and I strongly believe that it is true. I continue to believe that it is the true church because I stand for what's right, even when everything else is crumbling down. I know that the prophets are true to the church, and that they speak the true words of God.

Personal Stories

How can your talents and gifts bless others?

My gifts and talents can help others in their trials. They can comfort the weak and uplift the weary. I am a good listener. I can give good advice, and I like helping people.

How I live my faith

I go to church every chance I can. I don't use dirty or foul language, and I try my hardest to dress modestly. Many people try to get me to go astray from the path, but I don't listen to them. I try to teach my friends about being a Mormon by being the best person I am capable of being, and by being a good example.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Mormons do not only help Mormons. Mormons help anyone and everyone who is willing to accept that offered help. We've donated more than 1 billion dollars in cash and material assistance to 167 countries in need, starting from the record keeping in 1985. Many of these countries have little to no Mormons, or Christian influence at all! We strive to serve those who are hungry, naked, widowed, orphaned and afflicted.

Absolutely not. I personally have been a part of countless efforts to serve those not of our faith. We don't just serve others because we want them to join our Church. We serve because it's the right thing to do. Because it's what the Savior taught and exemplified. I think God often places people in our path when we are in a position to help. Sometimes, this can be a litmus test for how committed we are to living a Christlike life, especially if this "opportunity" comes at a very inconvenient time.

Perhaps we sometimes overlook opportunities to help because we are too focused on the problems staring us right in the face. I do know, however, that the Church makes a very concerted investment of time, talent, and resources in humanitarian aid throughout the world. We are often some of the first to arrive and the last to leave in cases like Hurricane Katrina, Haiti, and areas affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004. We often coordinate our efforts with other organizations like the Red Cross or the Catholic Church.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Believing in Christ is believing in his perfection. Being perfect he will always do what is in the best interests of his people. In times past man has needed the assistance of great men to help them in their journey home. That need has never changed. In fact, there has never been a greater need of a prophet to guide the people than there is right now.
