Hi, I'm Talaina Sorensen
I am a music enthusiast, a fan of all things literature, I love the great outdoors, and I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I love reading, camping, mowing the lawn, running with music, and playing games with my family on the weekends.
Why I am a Mormon
I was born into the Church, but it took me a while to really realize my personal testimony. I didn't always attend Church growning up, but there was something inside me that urged me to stick to what I knew to be true. I'm very grateful for that because I know that if I didn't have that little part of me nudging me in the right direction, I most definately wouldn't be where I am now. I have learned SO much by searching the scriptures on my own, and especially from praying to my Heavenly Father. I KNOW that He loves me and all of His children. I KNOW that He wants us all to be truly happy. I have a testimony that when we ask in faith, all things will be answered---in His time. :) I have a testimony of my Savior and His sacrifice for me personally. I love Him SO much and want to live my life in a way that His suffering will not have been in vain. It hurts sometimes, but I know that we can be forgiven, and with time, all wounds will heal.
Personal Stories
How has The Book of Mormon helped you understand the purpose of life?
I have a burning and ever increasing testimony of the Book of Mormon as the inspired word of God. Why? Because I have read and have asked with sincere purpose of heart, just as the final prophet, Moroni, invites. Each page has beautifully written doctrine and life lessons, just as the Bible. Each prophet testifies that there is a Christ, that our Father loves us, and that there is a bright hope for the life after this; just as the Bible prophets. The stories are different, the people have different experiences, all of which we can relate to our own personal lives, and sometimes, the Spirit will touch your heart in a way that you never dreamed posible from one short verse. I have a personal experience with Alma 58:40. I was having a difficult day. It felt as though my world was falling apart around me and there was nothing I could do about it. So, without conciously realizing what I was doing, I picked up my Book of Mormon and began reading. I was reading of young warriors set out to protect thier families and do what they knew to be right. Then, as I read verse 40, something inside made me feel as though those words were written specifically to me over 2000 years before somewhere in the ancient Americas: "But behold, they have received many wounds; nevertheless they stand fast in that liberty wherewith God has made them free; and they are strict to remember the Lord their God from day to day; yea, they do observe to keep his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments continually; and their faith is strong in the prophecies concerning that which is to come." At that moment, I knew that no matter what happened, I had to stay strong. I had to keep that faith. I had to move forward with hope, just as those young men, and never forget what my Savior did for me. I know that there is a purpose to this life, to learn, to grow, to pass through trials triumfantly, so that we can be prepared to live with our God and Savior again.
How I live my faith
I just try to not have fear or to feel ashamed of my beliefs. I know that there are many in the world seeking for a gentle word or a kind smile, so I try to remember how much my Savior has done for me and to show my appreciation through eminating His example, and that can be a challenge. :) Life is an adventure, and the Gospel is here to help us to stay safe along the way. I am here to live and I want to share this happiness that I have found with all of the friends and strangers that will soon be friends around me every day. If I can help brighten someones day just a tiny bit, I have succeeded.
