About Me

My dad served in the Air Force while I was young so I've lived in several western USA states. When I was twelve years old, I lived with my family in a little Turkish village across the Sea of Marmara from Istanbul.

Later, I attended college in Utah, married, and was then subsequently blessed to raise five children on a little farm in Oregon.

Though I was married in the temple and was actively involved in church, as I raised my family, I was divorced after twenty-five years. At the age of forty-five I found myself single, working to support myself and my remaining children, and dealing with many challenges that can come from the break-up of a marriage. Surviving the problems I faced was very difficult at first, but my faith in the Lord carried me through, gave me strength to move forward, and life gradually got better. Much better!

Today, I am remarried to a wonderful man, my children are grown, I have ten grandchildren, and I host a website to help others who are facing the challenges of divorce. SunnyDawn.com is a great resource for people looking for divorce support with LDS values.

Why I am a Mormon

I am an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I have learned from experience that following the precepts offered in the teachings of my faith grants me peace, happiness, and the enjoyment of the support of many other people who love the Lord like I do.

Membership in His church gave me faith, hope, and guidance as I raised a son with a significant physical disability, along with his brothers and sisters, all the while serving as a church and community leader.

When I divorced, my greatest comforts and hopes for a brighter future came to me as I stayed active in my church and attended the temple often.

How I live my faith

I have learned that service is the key to supreme happiness. I've discovered that caring for others is the best way to show the Lord how grateful I am for His love and sacrifice. I try my best to do whatever I can to help alleviate the suffering of those around me simply because I love Him and I am grateful for His gospel.

Currently, I help the children's auxiliary in my ward by organizing the teachers and music staff that teach and support the little ones, ages 18 months to twelve years old.

Personally, I live my faith each day by reading the scriptures and praying. When I have His spirit with me, I have the knowlege that I am making choices that please Him.

I know that when we try to follow the example that Jesus Christ set, it makes our Father in Heaven very happy. That is what I want to do!

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Unfortunately, with freedom of expression there will always be those who misuse this sacred gift to promote vile aims. As long as there is agency there will be corrupt influences; eradicating pornography is not possible.

But, on a personal level, there are things we can do to counter the effects of pornography in our lives.

Boyd K. Packer, an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, said: “Strangely enough, it may be that the simplest and most powerful prevention and cure for pornography, or any unclean act, is to ignore and avoid it. Delete from the mind any unworthy thought that tries to take root. Once you have decided to remain clean, you are asserting your God-given agency. And then…don’t look back” (Ensign p 77, Nov 2010).

When we choose wholesome influences our ability to resist temptation is increased. Here are a few things we can do:

Read from the scriptures daily. When we fill our minds with the Word of God there is an associated power that comes which will protect and strengthen us.

Fill our day with sacred music. Allow the lyrics of uplifting melodies to permeate each day.

Leave the computer and television behind and look for people who have greater troubles than our own. When we focus on what we can do to alleviate the suffering of others, we are better able to resist temptation.

Pray daily for strength to move forward. The Lord will aid us when we ask for righteous desires.

I frequently hear people say that we need to protect children from pornography. That statement is true, but it forgets that adults are also damaged by the self-gratifying attitudes that pornography depicts. Pornography changes how we view each other. We should be politely vocal about our desire to avoid pornography. Pornography should not be forced upon us by our friends, government, employment, or entertainers. But it will be if we don't speak up about our values.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Saying that Joseph Smith is the founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint (LDS) may cause a misunderstanding for some. LDS doctrine teaches that Jesus Christ is the head of the church, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the same church that existed in Old Testament and New Testament times. The "of Latter-day Saints" in the church's name denotes that this is the last dispensation before Jesus Christ's Second Coming, or the last period of time in which the Lord has at least one authorized servant on the earth who bears the keys of the holy priesthood. The Old Testament and New Testament discuss various dispensations when Christ's church existed on the earth in its authentic state.

So, what is the importance of Joseph Smith in relation to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Like Noah, Abraham, and Moses, Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God. He was simply a man called to speak for the Lord and played a key role in the restoration of Christ's church here upon the earth in these latter-days. Like Noah, Abraham, and Moses, we do not worship Joseph Smith, but study his life and teachings to better understand the will of God. Joseph Smith may had been a leader, but he was not and is not the head of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The head of the church is clearly stated in the church's name.
