Hi, I'm Amie
I'm a college student, I love music, and I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am a psychology major at BYU-Idaho. My studies include education and human development, which I find analytically interesting. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I've grown up in Indiana my whole life, but long to live surrounded by the beauty of the western mountains. I've played softball since I could attend kindergarten and love the intensity of athletics. Music uplifts me and tends to help me make sense of the world around me. I love meeting new people and learning about the lives of other individuals all around the world.
Why I am a Mormon
I am the kind of person who wants a theory to be proven with an attached explanation of how and why things are the way they are. I'm a very logical and common sense type of thinker. I want things to make sense fully and completely. And while faith is an essential principle in Heavenly Father's true church, being a Mormon makes sense to me- fully and completely. The way the Church is organized, the teachings that it emphasizes, the principles that its based on- it all makes perfect sense to me. It makes sense that families can be together forever. It makes sense that revelation is still given to us today. It makes sense that I don't have to say "till death do us part." It makes sense that the Church is organized the exact same way as it was when Christ himself was on the earth. I am a member of His church because I am so incredibly happy when I follow its teachings. A happiness that is neither temporal nor worldly, but a joy that is everlasting and eternal. There is a significant purpose to each mortal existence and I don't have to wonder where I came from, why I'm here or where I'm going. I find such comfort, reassurance and love in pure righteousness. The scriptures are a divine tool given to us that we may find the answers that we seek in this life. The Book of Mormon testifies of the Son of God. I know that sincere and humble prayer results in blessings unmeasured. A living prophet leads the Church today as a mouthpiece of the Lord. My testimony of this true Gospel is the most precious possession that I have.
Personal Stories
Could you talk about your baptism?
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are typically baptized at the age of 8 unless they are converts. I was thrilled to be baptized as an official member of the Church the second I turned 8 years old, but I chose to wait four additional months to be baptized in Arizona with an aunt who was returning to the Church after years of inactivity and getting rebaptized. We were both dressed in white, feeling joy beyond measure for ourselves and for each other. She showed me that it is never too late to commit or to recommit to follow Heavenly Father's plan; His greatest gift of eternal life is available to all of His children, no matter what the circumstance. As I emerged from the water, an undeniable smile was plastered on my face from ear to ear. I knew in my heart that I had made the right decision to become a member of His flock. I felt clean and pure, with a determination to keep the covenants I had taken and let my light shine to the world as a disciple of Christ. With the Holy Ghost as a constant companion, I knew I could trust in His guidance and eventually be led to eternal salvation.
How I live my faith
I center my entire life around Heavenly Father and His Son. It's not an aspect of my life that I observe solely on Sunday mornings; everything I do, I do in accordance to God's plan for me. I'm the same person singing hymns in a pew on Sunday as I am going to the bank on a Thursday afternoon. I take religion classes to increase my spiritual strength and knowledge of the truthfulness of the Gospel. I desire the same unaltered bliss of God's love for everyone. I attend home evenings each week with the students in my ward and do my best to encourage, comfort and uplift those around me.
