Daniel: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Daniel

I am a husband and father. I teach high school, I love to snowboard, sing, act, watch sci-fi and musicals, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up with two amazing parents who taught me the importance of living Gospel of Jesus. I am the middle of my parents' seven kids, and am so grateful for all of my family. I married my wonderful wife on Friday the 13th, and it was the best day of my life.
I received my B.S. in Education in Theatre, Speech, and Physics and I love to teach kids. Everything interests me and I want to share my love of knowledge with everyone around me. My favorite movie is Karate Kid 1 and 2, and come winter the itch to go snowboarding is all but consuming.
My family is my number one priority. I didn't really think about what I was going to BE when I grew up, rather I thought of what I was going to DO, and that revolved around being the world's best husband and father. It took me a while to pick a career that would allow me to pursue that dream.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because when I was 15 years old I had to know for myself if the Church was true. Influences from friends at school pulled me in a lot of different directions, and I was very confused as to what I should do. I grew up in the church, but until that time I was relying on my parents' testimonies. If I was going to continue living the practices taught by the Church, I needed to know if what I was doing was what God wanted me to do.

I had never read the Book of Mormon on my own, but we did read it now and then as a family. In the church we are taught that if we want to know if the Church is true, if Jesus Restored His church through a living prophet, then we need to read the Book of Mormon and pray to know if it is truly the word of God.

I started reading the Book of Mormon everyday on my own after school. After reading for 20 or 30 minutes, I would kneel down next to the couch and pray, asking God if the Book of Mormon is true. I did that for a little over 2 weeks before anything happened. One day, after reading, as I started to pray, I felt a warm sensation in my chest swell until I seemed that my entire torso was filled. I didn't hear or see anything, but at that moment I knew in my heart and in my mind that the Church is true. It is as if the knowledge was just given to me. I knew, and I know it now, and I thank my Heavenly Father that He answered my prayer.

Personal Stories

Why do Mormons go on missions?

When I turned 19 I had the opportunity to consider going on a mission. We don't go on missions because "that's just what Mormons do." I went on a mission because I really believe that this is the same church that Jesus Christ established during His life and ministry, only restored in these latter days.

With that being said, Christ Himself sent His disciples to preach the Gospel to all the world, and He has yet to take back that command. Also, the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His restored church are so important to me, and have brought me so much peace and clarity in my life, I WANT to share that with others. If a church is to be Christ's church, it must therefore also be a missionary church, for He would have his disciples preach His message to all of the world.

How I live my faith

My faith starts at home. I try so hard to treat my wife the way Jesus says I should. We have had problems and bumps in our marriage, but through repentance and forgiveness, we move ahead even stronger. We treat each other as equals and make all of our decisions, whether concerning finances or how to raise our kids, together.

In my congregation (what we call a "ward"). I teach what is called Gospel Doctrine. It is a class where we study the scriptures and discuss how living a Christ centered life has helped us all. In the past of I have been called to play piano, lead the choir, teach little kids, and work with teenagers. I love serving in the church and the opportunity it gives to me learn and grow.

I know that through living the Gospel of Jesus Christ as it is taught in His restored church is the best way to have happiness in this life, and I hope to show my children and those around me through example that very truth.
