Hi, I'm Peg Kimball
I grew up in Southern California as a beach girl. I love Mexican food and eclectic design. I adore my husband! I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am a woman of simple tastes. I grew up loving and living in the surf, but now I am a desert dweller. My family means the world to me. I have three sons, two daughter-in-laws and five precious grandchildren. Travel is a passion of mine, as is reading. History, biographies and mystery novels are my favorites. I love Italian food, Irish music, Mexican folklore, Danish art, American cars and Chinese proverbs. I became a Mormon while in college and the blessings and peace that have followed in my life have been miraculous. Life has not always been easy, but the knowledge that Jesus Christ is my Savior, that God knows me personally and loves me and that we have a living Prophet on the earth today to guide and lead us, and that we will be together forever as families makes me strong. I have a strong personality and tend to voice my opinion often. . .this church affords me the opportunity to ask and learn. No question is a wrong or stupid one. The answers lay within the scriptures for any of us to learn for ourselves. . .The emphasis placed on education and knowledge for all of us is a constant source of delight. There is a spirit of love and cooperation within this church that reaches out to all of God's children. . .which is every man, woman and child in the world.
Why I am a Mormon
I have been a member of the Mormon church for 37 years. I was raised a Christian Scientist and learned much about the bible throughout my life from very religious grandparents and parents. At age 14 I decided that Jesus was, indeed, the literal son of God, and went looking for a church to join. I attended many in the next five years. When I begn to read The Book of Mormon, I immediately knew it was another testament of Jesus Christ, His life and His teachings. Everything I had been taught and felt by the Spirit clicked into place. I was 'home." All these years later, I can say I have never doubted the truthfulness of this gospel as being of Jesus Christ. I believe in Jesus Christ and His teachings, I try to incorporate into my life the lessons He taught anciently. There is a peace and comfort in having a personal relationship with my Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ. My testimony of this church has grown stronger even though I have gone through many trials and heartaches. We all do. The Lord is there for us and I know personally through experience that He never leaves us alone in our trials. I am a Christian. I take upon myself the name of Jesus Christ whenever I partake of the Sacrament. . .trying to live life as He would have me do. People didn't understand my decision to join this church, but I am so glad that I did. God watches over all of us, loves us and knows us personally.
Personal Stories
What have you done successfully to shield your family from unwanted influences?
I am the mother of three sons. I can say that I shielded them from many of the temptations of the world by fostering a strong family that became their sanctuary. They ventured out in school, sports, the community. . . but could always come home and be assured that this was a Christ centered home where they were loved and appreciated. When the family unit is strong all the rest of the world's problems shrink. Prayer, church attendance, setting an example and sharing our feelings are a few of the things we did and do regularly as a family.
Why do Mormons go on missions?
Many of my friends who are not members of my church have asked me that. . .especially after our lodest son died while serving a two year mission. I respond that the Lord requires them to share that knowledge of His love and redemptive powers. If someone found the cure to cancer, would they not want to share it with others? That is all we do. We do not condemn or denigrate any other religion. We admire them. We would just say, take what you have and we can ad a bit more because we have a prohet alive on the earth today who can guide us through the troubling times ahaed. It is all listed and fortold in the Bible. With a relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ, anything can be overcome or weathered. This is the good news we wish to share. No pressure or judgement takes place, Each of Heavenly Father's children has free agency and can utilize it without rebuke.
How has the Holy Ghost helped you?
My oldest son, David Patten Kimball IV, was killed while serving a mission for our church in Uruguay in 1996. This was an experience that tested us as individuals and as a family. The power of the Holy Ghost was minifest to me immediately in my ability to forgive the young man who caused this tragic accident. The peace that was wrapped around me and the inspiration and answers to questions I recieved could have come from none other than the Holy Ghost.
How I live my faith
I am active in my ward, which is our local church based upon where we live. We have a non-paid clergy, and all of us participate weekely in the presentation of the meetings. I am part of a women's organization that is the largest women's group in the world. We help one another out, support one another on our spiitual journeys, and encourage one another to keep on keeping on. I have many good friends within and outside of the church. We are to be active in the community and I take interest in local and national politics, as well as civic organizations. I attend my church meetings weekly, pray daily in private as well as with my family, and read the scriptures each day. I just try to be a friend to those I meet and live the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
