Hi, I'm Karel
I'm a Mormon. I grew up in California and my husband and I have raised 4 children.
About Me
I have 4 children and 2 grandchildren. I was lucky enough to be able to help take care of my granddaughter.
I have completed college and continue my education by taking classes as often as I can. I hope to complete a masters one day.
My hobbies are anything that you can do with a needle and thread. I love embroidery and sewing. Presently, I am enrolled in a sewing class and a quilting class. Next month I will be teaching and embroidery class.
Cooking is another hobby. I love baking and making yummy things to eat and share with others. Gardening is useful for this hobby. Herbs and flowers are my main interest. My husband is more interested in the vegetables and fruit. So we have a well rounded garden.
Why I am a Mormon
Why am I a Mormon? Because, like Joshua (Joshua 24:15), I choose to serve the Lord. Our church is all about service. We help each other when ever there is a need, and we help anywhere in the world we are needed. The Lord said, "Thou shalt love they Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. The second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." Who is your neighbor? Everyone. It is a pleasure to serve the Lord by serving others.
Many years ago, when we were have a difficult time in our live, the Lord led me to a scripture that is truly one of my favorites. It is found in Isaiah (Isaiah 12:2)and the Book of Mormon (2 Nephi 22:2). "Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also has become my salvation." This scripture has given me strength to hold on or carry on whenever I read it.
I am so grateful to my friend who introduced to the church over 40 years ago. It has given me joy and peace throughout my life. It helps me have peace when loved ones die and it gives me joy to know they are safe with God. I truly will be able to see them again. And as I do my genealogy, I will add more of my beloved family to the church. Our reunion will be glorious.
How I live my faith
Several years ago the Leaders of our Church asked us to participate in our communities. In others words, become active in community activities. So, when my last child started school, I went to the library in our town as asked if I could volunteer. For over 20 years I volunteered in the children's reading program at our library. It has been a great joy to me. I have met many wonderful people who have blessed my life. I have seen these children grow from childhood to adulthood. They are all amazing and have grown up to be wonderful adults. I have been able to share a very small portion of their growing years. What a gift.
At church I have been given the responsibility of visiting several woman. This is called Visiting Teaching. Over the years I have visited many ladies, but one of the most cherished passed away 2 years ago. I was blessed to visit her for about 15 years. She taught me that love and patience are important character traits. Most of her children were less active, but she continued to encourage them to follow gospel principles. Her husband was not a member of our church and she continued to bring him to all of our activities; and it was her husband who enjoyed watching the BYU channel on television. She was a true inspiration.
Today I visit 2 sisters who are wonderful examples of enduring to the end with joy. They both are going through so many trials, but they always find the good things in life and appreciate the blessings they do have. They look forward to the future and whatever it will bring, knowing that God is always on their side helping them through life. Just as he helps me and you.
Whenever His help is needed, all we need to do is ask. If what we ask is in our best interest (according to His wants and desires for us), and we ask in faith, believing that we will receive it, it will be given to us.
