Cecilia Matos: Mormon.

Hi I'm Cecilia Matos

About Me

I'm Cecilia; my nickname is Ceci. I am 16 years old and a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I live in Virginia with my mom, dad, two younger brothers and one younger sister. My dads parents live 5 minutes up the street from us and my dads younger brother and his family live 5 minutes down the street from us. I really enjoy having my family close to me. I am a Junior in high school and I attend seminary every morning. For the 3 years that I have been in high school, I have 100% seminary attendance. I love to sing, I also enjoy playing the piano and guitar but I'm still trying to work on becoming good at playing them. I love sports, I like to play soccer and football with my dad, brother and the young men of our ward and I also like to play ward volleyball. I like to write poems and I also like to read, my favorite movies are action movies. Lastly, I love talking with people!

Why I am a Mormon

My mother was the first active member of the church in her family, my fathers parents converted while he was young so he grew up in the church. They both served missions and were married and sealed in the temple. Thanks to them I was able to grow up in a stable, faith-filled home. My parents raised me in the church and when I turned 8 I chose to be baptized. Having grown up in the church I understand what it means to live on a borrowed testimony because my whole family was strong in the church and my faith was never truly tested. It wasn't until my early teenage years that I became truly converted. It was at a time in my life where I was going through difficult things, my grandfather passed away and then I suffered another death in my family; the death of my one week old cousin. It was definitely trying times, were I felt my family becoming weak and I didn't know what to do. It was then that I gained my own testimony of this church, and it was based on my realization that Christ really did feel every single thing that all of us feel, and he is always there to get us through anything. I believe that I became devoted to this gospel and truly converted to this church when I decided that I would forever strive to live my life in a way that brought the least amount of pain to my Savior.

How I live my faith

I am a member of the Young Women in my Spanish speaking ward. I love to participate in youth activities, especially when I have a prominent role in organizing or leading them. I sing in my ward's choir, and I have also participated in my stake's choir. Thanks to my love and knowledge of music I am also able to lead the hymns in my sacrament meeting whenever our chorister is not at church.
