I grew up the youngest of five children and each weekend of my childhood we would get lost in the mountains of Utah together. At first I hated hiking and complained like the little sister I was. Then as I got older I have learned to love the outdoors more than anything else, especially when it is on the back of the horse. I love riding and running through fields. I have went on millions of trail rides, but if I am not on the trail I love jumping. Flying through the air on a horse is unlike anything else I have ever done and I love it. When the weather is not good I go to college and learn about math and physics. I have always liked solving puzzles and math is my kind of puzzle. Since I was in kindergarten I have always known I wanted to teach. Now I know that I am going to be a math, physics, and statistics teacher in some high school someday. My three dreams in life is to teach school, own a horse ranch, and get married to an amazing man.
I am LDS not only because it gives me a social life, but also because it makes me happy. Because of this teaching of this gospel I know that my life is better than it would be otherwise. Living the commandments is not a restriction, it is a blessing. Living free of sin is not just a nice fairy tale, through the atonement of Jesus Christ it is truly possible. I am a Mormon because without it my life would lack direction and a purpose. I am a Mormon because it just makes me happy.
The Book of Mormon is full of plain and simple truths. Everyday when I read it I find little bits of knowledge that I can apply in my life. It has given my comfort and made more more content with myself. I have read many stories in the Book of Mormon, like the story of Captain Moroni, the leader of an army. He led the people of Nephi do defend there home, their liberty, and their religion. He cared about the people he served and also looked for God for help in each battle. Even though it was not easy he led the people, with God's help, to victory over their foes. This one example has taught my that I can turn to the Lord to help my fight my battles, whether it be as small as a homework assignment or as big as what career to pursue. Also with his help I can have a good relationship with my family and feel of their love. The Book of Mormon gives us great heroes like Captain Moroni it follow their example.
We serve missions to give others the happiness that comes from living the gospel of Jesus Christ. Also the reason I am serving a mission is to show my gratitude for all that my Heavenly Father has given me. I love his so much and so like Peter I am going to feed his sheep. I want to teach the gospel to help others find a better way to live their lives.
Many times I have asked myself how a 14 year old boy could see God the Father and his Son. Why did he have that vision? But now I know without a doubt that he is a prophet called by God to restore the truth into one church. Each church has a piece of the truth, but Joseph Smith organized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints with God's direction so EVERY part of this church contains the truth. I know Joseph Smith did in fact translate the Book of Mormon, and by reading its pages I have grown closer to the Savoir. Also if the Book of Mormon is true, then Joseph Smith must be a prophet, because there is no way that book was written by a man. I am so grateful for all that Joseph Smith did and know he sealed his testimony with his life.
I am currently serving a mission in Birmingham, Alabama and it is the most wonderful experience of my life. I know that each day I am able to bless someone's life and it makes me more happy than I have ever been. It is hard to see all the mistrust and sorrows people deal with everyday, but as a missionary I have had many opportunities to watch the light of Christ enter people's lifes and make them happier. I am sharing the gospel with others, because I know it will make them happier and help them live better lives. My mission is focused entirely on helping other people, and loving them by helping them come closer to their Savior.
It has been my guide and director all through my life. I love the feeling of peace I have when I feel it testifying to me of truth. The Holy Ghost has helped me make so dificult decisions and I am so grateful for it's guidance in my life.
As a young adult going to school I have been very involved in the church and it is a big part of my social life. I have met wonderful people through attending church and other activities. One of the best parts about the church is wherever I go I know that I can find people that will welcome me and care about me in church. The LDS church is the same no matter where you go and I love the consistency as I have went from school to school and lived away from my family. I live my faith by trying to help others and lift them up through times of trials. I try to not just take but to give back all the blessing I have received from the LDS church.
