Why I am a Mormon

My sister is Mormon and I was invited to join her for a Church meeting. I remember a man talking from the pulpit, and he was encouraging the other men to "love their wife as Jesus loves the church". He began to talk about eternal families and how eveything that the church teaches us is to protect and nuture those relationships. I chose to follow this faith because if the man that I chose to marry some day was being taught those concepts, I would be grateful and happy. I am happy.

Could you talk about your baptism?

It was simple really. I had my sister there and I was at peace. I didn't know the answers to everything but I had the answers to the important things and I had faith in God. I had faith that everything else would be revealed in time.

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

Prayer helps me remember what is most important in life. When I kneel to pray at night I have a list of simple items in my mind (things I want to pray about). I do however, start with the most important things, like thanking God for my family's health, protection from harm and thank him for having them all safe in their beds. By the time I move on the the other items on my list, I remember the things that I had just prayed about are the most important and I don't need anything else.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving others and being an example to my children.

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

The phophet today is Thomas S. Monson. He is a wise and loving man led by the Spirit of God. His council and testimony fill my heart with the Spirit and bless my life.

God through out the ages has spoken to His children through living prophets. We have a prophet today, named Thomas S. Monson. He is a prophet just like Moses, Abraham or Peter. My wife and I, were blessed to be personally called by President Monson to serve a mission. For 2 hours we sat in his office as he taught us. We felt his spirit and his love. I know that he is a prophet. This is the Savior’s church and He leads this church just as he did anciently through a living prophet. As we follow President Monson’s teaching and example we will be blessed to draw nearer to the Savior.

Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

The principle of a perpetuating body of twelve special witnesses of Christ comes in ancient times from the fact that the eleven survivors of the death of the Savior chose a twelfth to replace Judas Iscariot (see Acts of the Apostles 1:15-26) Two were considered worthy to take his place, but only one was chosen. When the apostles cast their lots, the inspired choice fell upon Matthias.

In modern times, the Church's organization has been one of gradual building. As the needs of the Church have continued to grow, the prophet of the Lord has been directed to add not only the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, but other supporting quorums of the Seventy as well. The structure of the local organization of wards and stakes has been given by revelation to complete it. But as the needs of the Church continue to evolve so will the structure which supports it. Christ remains the chief cornerstone and the Apostles as the foundation with Him. (see Ephesians 2:19-20 also Ephesians 4:11-14)
