Hi, I'm Kari Acton - People

I grew up on Vashon Island and was baptized when I was 17 years old. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Have you ever pondered and really thought about where you came from, why you are here, and where you are going? There has to be more than just this life? I can remember vividily asking these questions at a very young age and having unsettling thoughts and my mom was unable to comfort me or give me a surity a surity that would come about 12 years later. Those questions were always in the back of my mind and my Spirit would come to recognize instantaneouly the truth that was spoken to me by the missionaries twelve years later. I knew the gosple had been restored there was no denying it for me and I made my baptismal covenant on my sevententh birthday. I have been trying to live the gospel ever since. I have had many bumps in the road some rougher than others but adveristy is part of this life. I was naive in my gospel growth I didn't conceptualize the reality of the atonement until after I was married and I spent too many years trying to get perfect all on my own which lead to much unneeded suffering if I would of studied the atonement and the gosple more in my youth I would of realized much sooner Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ would bridge the gap for all.

Hi, I'm Annette Cotton-Betteridge. - People

I'm a mother of 5, divorced and remarried, I'm a triathlete and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an avid athlete. I've been on a quest for personal fitness ever since I began college. I am a triathlete because the variety and challenge of the combined swim/bike/run sports is exhilarating and never boring. Since becoming a mother in my early twenties I have learned that I need fitness to be part of my life for my children's sake and for my sanity! It's wonderful having a hobby or an interest of my own to pursue and to set personal, reachable goals for myself each year. Every mother needs little personal accomplishments that bring her joy and satisfaction personally. Obviously I am also a mom. I have five children, one of which is mine through marriage. I am a divorcee, remarried to a wonderful man who shares my goals and vision for an eternal family. Being married, especially in a second marriage with a blended family, is challenging at times. We have had our share of problems and continue to live one day at a time, but the gospel and the eternal mindset we share has brought us through many turbulent waters. I am a college graduate with a Masters degree and I know the power and importance of education, especially for a woman and mother. That is a passion of mine and one that I love to see develop in others. I have great hopes that my children, including and especially my daughters, will continue to thrive in their intellectual development. I believe it brings us closer to God.

Hi, I'm Mary Ann - People

I'm a Mormon. I'm a wife, mother, grandmother, retired teacher, daughter, sister and friend. I joined the church 37 years ago.

About Me

I am a retired teacher, married for 47 years, with 3 grown children and 8 grandchildren. Because of diminishing eyesight, I am learning to adjust to a new lifestyle and interests. Since I can no longer drive, I am walking a lot and am healthier than ever before! Finding ways to help and serve others has helped me see means of service in a new light. I have always loved teaching, children, learning, studying and reading. I just now have to approach these interests in a different way. Although I have worked briefly in accounting and public relations, I feel I was mainly a teacher. I have learned so much from my varied teaching experiences and have wonderful memories.

Hi, I'm Linda H. - People

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in northeast Tennessee. I'm a 2nd generation Mormon. My parents were converts and some of the first members of the Church in the area. My father was the branch president for many years. A branch president is equivalent to a pastor of a small congregation. We held a home Sunday School at our house during WWII. The Church was always important in our lives. I had a wonderful childhood, but my adult years have been hard. I am a 10 year survivor of cancer. It was a mountain I didn't feel I could climb, but the Lord carried me over that mountain by sending many angels in the form of ordinary people to help me. Unfortunately I have been married and divorced twice. I made many mistakes in my younger years. My youngest son is in the picture with me. We both forgave my 2nd husband who had many problems. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ we were both able to forgive him and move on with our lives. He died tragically, and I hope he will find peace. I feel no bitterness towards him, nor does my son. To be able to truly forgive is a miracle. I feel no bitterness. I am free and at peace. Currently I am retired and live with my oldest son and his family in California. I help my son and daughter-in-law with my grandchildren. My son is not active and his wife is not a member. They are very good people. I try to set a good example. I am a singer and a writer. I write stories about my family, usually with Southern humor. It is my goal to do a story on each family member. Music is a big part of my life. I sing in Church choir, and solo in Church on Sundays and I sing Broadway and Jazz for Church parties. I also like to do crossword puzzles and do counted cross stitch embroidery. Both my parents, my brother, all my wonderful aunts and uncles are gone. I still have cousins I am close to but I miss my immediate family. I know I will be with them again. When life was so hard, there were times when I could feel my father's presence. I know our families are very interested in us and watching over us. I had a profoundly handicapped daughter who died when she was 24. Because of the gospel of Jesus Christ I know that she is with my parents and is now well and whole. I am very involved in researching my family. I am working with some of my cousins and each of us has taken a different branch of our family to concentrate on. It is both rewarding and a sometimes frustrating work.

Hi, I'm Paula - People

Grateful to be part of the work of the Last Days.

About Me

While I like to think that I'm a mother first (my girl's might suggest otherwise), I did work outside the home all the time my children were growing up. It was always a challenge. We all learned a lot from it. Wondering if it might have been different if I'd stayed home, is not relevant, because that wasn't the path of learning that we took. I am extremely proud to have been entrusted with the two beautiful daughters that I was given stewardship over -- for everything that they taught me and for their patience with me. As we all learn from our mothers -- it was their first time -- we were their first opportunity to learn how to be a mother. I can't imagine having taken that journey without our membership in Christ's church. How easy it would have been so many times, to have discounted the commitments made to my husband, save for the fact that we made sacred covenants within the walls of a Holy Temple. And while I did find it necessary to 'run away from home' on occasion, eventually, I'd pull myself together not only to face the challenges, but to partake in the joy of being a mother and having a family. I now enjoy watching them as they face the same challenges.

Hi, I'm Debbie - People

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm "almost" a senior Citizen, a wife of 38 years, mother of 5 married children and soon to be 12 grandchildren! I consider myself especially blessed to have my parents in my life, living only a few blocks from our home. What a cherished experience it is for me to have 3 of our 5 married children and 8 of our 12 grandchildren living within 8 miles of me! I get a LOT of grandma time each week, with soccer, baseball, volleyball games, school plays, etc.! Sundays wouldn't be the same without Sunday Dinner at Grandma and Papa's! Sunday dinner can be as small as 7 of us, but many Sundays include 19 of us!!! My FAVORITE HOBBY other than family is doing Geneology, and yes it really is addictive! Connecting to those who came before me has truly given me a greater appreciation for their lives, examples, sacrifices and tremendous loses many of them faced. I LOVE TRADITIONS! I'm teased that if mom does it once, it becomes a tradition! (a slight exagerateration!) Some of my favorites with our grandchildren include Grandma's Christmas sleepover; decorating a gingerbread house, baking cookies, delivering goodies to neighbors, playing games & sleeping by the fire. Also Grandma's Toenail painting parties with the older girls! A family favorite is the HUGE Grab Bag at Christmas! My husband and I search all year to find and wrap interesting, funny and sometimes great gifts that little ones take turns picking out for their family after the huge pile is dumped on the floor!
