I am an accounting professional, that mixes in some scouting into my schedule, along with my church and other activities. About Me

In the ignorance of youth I thought I had the world figured out. I had returned from a six-month volunteer experience in Costa Rica, where I overcame many challenges that boosted my confidence and expanded my understanding. I was ready to take on the world—or so I thought. The moment that shattered this secure view of the world came while watching a film about human sex trafficking in an ethics and values course. That moment—that realization of how so many innocent people are treated—ignited a fire in me that has been burning ever since: a fire for change. Since this experience, I have participated in many roles in the nonprofit sector. From defending the deaf, to fighting the plague of pornography and assisting challenged children, I now have a much clearer view of the problems present in today’s world. These opportunities, coupled with my academic experiences, have helped me understand the need for active and dedicated community members. I have come to realize that ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances can do extraordinary things. Through my current pursuit of a Masters in Public Administration at Brigham Young University, I hope to be able to accomplish even more than I currently recognize as possible. As you can see, I am passionate about serving others. Coupling that passion with my education, I intend to be an advocate of the family by giving the community all that I can—a thirst for learning, a commitment to service, and a fire for change.

I am the proud father of four. Two boys, two girls. They are the joy of my life. My wife and I met in college, then suffered some medical issues that required us to leave school for ten years. We returned as non-traditional students and both finished our undergrad degrees at the University of Idaho. I studied Philosophy there and was profoundly impacted by such a rigorous course of study. I have worked from home for the past 20 years at various endeavors online, with a brief period where we owned and operated a used furniture/antique store. My oldest son just left home to serve a 2 year mission to Denver, CO and my oldest daughter will leave early next year. Life is wonderful, even with all the ups and downs. Family means the world to me!

I started college right out of high school and knew that I wanted to finish with an education that would enable me to make a positive impact on the world around me. I took a short break to serve the Lord on an 18 month mission (that being an education in itself). When I returned from this service I again returned to my studies. While in the pursuit of my degree a friend returned from his service as a missionary, we decided that we wanted more than just friendship and were married shortly after his return. Five months after we were married we were delightfully surprised to find out we were, unexpectedly, expecting our first child. Of course we were elated, we decided that I would take a short break to be with our little one. Eight years, and three more adorable children, later I decided to return to my studies. I am currently on the road to receiving a degree so that I will be able to make my dream a reality. I must say though, despite all of my early adult goals, I have achieved my dreams of an education and changing the world with the difference I have been able to make in the lives of my own children. The fulfillment I find in watching them grow is more than I have within me to express. Heavenly Father knows me and each day he guides me down a path far better than the one I may have chosen for myself.

One thing that I love to do is have fun. I have always loved motorcycles and gettin dirty in the mud. My Dad, my Brother and I would take motorcycle rides on nice twisty mountain roads together. I love racing activities! I will sometimes go to the 1/4 mile Dirt Race Tracks and have a super fun time watching them race around the corner at high speeds! I also love to play sports like Basketball with friends and family. I am not very good at it...but I make the best fun out of it that I can! I have been a competitive swimmer since I was at the age of 6 for the USAA. I am the youngest of five kids with two brothers and two sisters. My dad works for AT&T wireless phone company, while my mother is a Sales Associate at Kohl's. I am an Elementary Education major with a TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) minor.
