Hi, I'm Dave - People

I'm a language lover, a music maker, a multicultural food devourer, a teacher of my kids and grandkids. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love pulling people closer into my circle and expanding my circle to include them. I love the languages and cultures and the people of Central Asia, and I enjoy being a language administrator. Most of my co-workers are Muslim, and I love working with them as we create textbooks, multimedia materials and mobile apps for Turkic and Iranian languages. We also teach language and culture to students from academic, business, military and other governmental organizations, many of whom later travel or work in Afghanistan, Western China or various Eurasian countries. I enjoy creating music, vocal and instrumental. I also love roller coasters and stormy weather. I’ve been laid off twice. Despite trials and defeat, I have always felt a success as a parent, and as a result, I’ve felt successful in general. I love my wife. She is an organizer extraordinaire; her influence as a teacher of youth cannot be measured. We are empty nesters with six amazing adult kids, a daughter and five sons. We have a bunch of wonderful grandkids. My favorite age is the teenage years. I love having teenagers; it's when their hearts and minds kick in in full gear. Teenagerhood -- well prepared for -- is a joy. Real travel for me starts where English is not spoken and dollars are not used. I love eating international foods of all sorts and discussing them with my family. I enjoy talking to folks of all sorts; I love learning from people who aren't like me.

Hi, I'm Valerie Jean - People

Married to a private investigator. We have 3 children. I love being a wife, mom and business-owner. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Elder Boyd K. Packer said, "The ultimate end of all activity in the Church is that a man and his wife and their children can be happy at home." I can say firsthand that I know what it's like to be a part of a happy family. In this regard, I am the luckiest wife and mother on the planet. Our children are teenagers, and yet they still open up to me about anything and everything. I treasure my husband and children more than I can say. I have numerous other blessings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have a strong desire to share my testimony of the gospel. I do struggle with weaknesses and various different trials, specifically health issues. But it helps me to remember the good moments outweigh the bad ones. Oh how they do! The gospel of Jesus Christ enables me to have this perspective, regardless of the trials my family and I are going through. I enjoy reading mostly for secular and spiritual learning, journal writing, photography, creative writing, going to the movies isn't movie popcorn the best?!, helping others, social networking on the internet, blogging, spending time with my friends, immediate and extended family and I've been known to play a game of spider solitaire or two. If I'm listening to Michael Buble, one might catch me dancing. I very much enjoy going to the temple. I have taken numerous college classes on different campuses and online. I absolutely love learning. My husband is a private investigator. He is good at what he does and more importantly, he enjoys his job. I do not work outside the home. A great deal of my time and energy is spent towards my family and taking care of our daughter who has special needs. She has over 15 doctors. My sons have some health care issues as well. But I am grateful that my children have doctors and medication to help them. The inconvenience of doctor's appointments is a small price to pay for necessary health care. Somehow, our children rise above their trials and keep on going. They each have accomplished good things and I am proud of them, especially for the good choices they make. I am so grateful to my husband, and for the love and patience he shows to me. He is also one of the funniest people I know. I love him dearly. I am excited for this opportunity to share my beliefs about Jesus Christ. I welcome comments on my blog page.

Hi, I'm Candee - People

Hi, I'm Rian - People

I'm a sheepherder, a rancher, a photographer, a writer and a poet, but most important to me -- I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Being a Mormon is not new to me. I'm a sixth generation member of the Church. My third great grandfather was a coal miner near Glasgow, Scotland and joined the Mormon Church in 1847. He immigrated with his wife and three sons to Utah, where the family sheep ranch was started in the 1860's and has carried on to the present time. I started working the sheep ranch with my father at the ripe old age of two months. I was born in April and in July I was on the mountain at the 9,000 foot level riding the saddle with Dad. We graze the sheep at this elevation each year from July 1st to September 30th, so this was my home, living in a 7 X 12 foot sheep camp. We hauled our drinking water from a spring on the back of the horse in a five gallon can and cooked our food on a small wood-burning stove. A summer sheep herd consists of 1,000 ewes plus their lambs, which usually makes it over 2,000 sheep that your trying to keep track of. Herding sheep on open range requires that you get up before dawn and saddle your horse so you can be to the herd before they get up and start moving. You do this so you can move them all off on the same side of the ridge towards the creek where they can graze on the lush green mountain browse and grasses and drink the clear cool water from the stream. The herd shades-up under the aspen and pine during the heat of the day, then starts moving and grazing again about 3:30. It is also important that you be there then to move them all to the same side of the creek so they pull to the top of the same ridge and bed down together for the night. If you don’t, they pull to the top of two different ridges and will be miles apart come evening. Thus the need for the sheepherder. I spent every summer of my life, until I was nineteen, in the mountains doing just this. Each year Dad would give me a little more responsibility. At age three I was riding my own horse even though my legs barely curved over the edge of the saddle – still a long ways from the stirrups! By the time I was seven or eight he would send me out alone from time to time just to get the feel of being in charge and having to do the job on my own. When I was big enough to saddle the horse by myself, around age 10, he would actually leave me alone on the mountain for a few days at a time, so I would learn to take control and do it myself, knowing he wasn’t there to pick up the pieces if I let the sheep get away and scatter. The year I was fourteen he turned the herd over to me completely. He only came by once a week to bring me supplies. When I was seventeen, he didn’t even do that. He gave me the pickup truck and turned the entire mountain operation over to me. That meant, besides herding my own sheep, I had to drive to town once a week, over 20 miles of rough mountain roads, load hay and grain for the horses, salt for the sheep and buy groceries for the herders, then deliver them to all our other herds. I also had to move sheep camps periodically for all the herds as they moved up or down the ridges. When I got married, the cycle began again with my children. Though not easy, it was a wonderful life, learning to live and work and play together without many of the outside influences so prevalent in the world today. I graduated from college with a degree in photography. I enjoy presenting views of the world around us that others don't often see, at least not from my perspective. I'm also a writer and a poet. My focus in writing is to uplift and inspire. I'm married. I have six children, two sons and four daughters. I'm a grandfather of fifteen. I love life and my family.

Hi, I'm Megan - People

I grew up in Utah. I'm a nursing student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Marriage and Family - What I believe: I believe in The Family: A Proclamation to the World. In this proclamation it declares that the first commandment God gave to Adam and Eve was to multiply and replenish the earth, and that commandment is still in force today. I believe that the greatest blessing given to us from our Father in Heaven is the ability to create families. I believe that through temple marriage of a man and woman, eternal bonds and relationship are formed. Marriage of a husband and wife made through ordinances and covenants in the Holy Temple is a divine blessing and one that will bless the lives of generations to follow. I believe that in marriage husband and wife should strive to live and keep their covenants so that they may receive all the blessings that God has to offer. When these covenants are kept, marriage is successful and can endure through any hard times. I believe that a married couple are commanded to bring forth children, because it is part of God's plan. I believe that the ability to bear children is a divine responsibility and blessing. When it comes to parenting, Fathers are to provide, protect, and preside in the home. They are to righteously use their priesthood to bless the lives of all the members of the family. Mothers are responsible for the nurturing and teaching of their children. The proclamation states that the family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and women as well as bearing children is essential to the eternal plan.

Hi, I'm Sarah - People

I'm a Mormon. Outdoor adventures & opportunities to serve with my loving husband & 5 awesome kids are the joys of life I relish.

About Me

A freckled tomboy who'd rather climb a mountain than sew a dress, I’m married to the love of my life and blessed with 5 incredible kids from preschooler to teenager. Kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, swimming a mountain river or a lake, hiking, biking or running a trail are just a few of my favorite activities. I enjoy a kill whenever I can too-- in the non-violent sport of volleyball! If I’ve got a quiet moment to myself, I enjoy reading or learning something new, playing guitar, writing to clear my thoughts, or composing a ditty only my family will hear. A desire to change the world with international development led to a Masters in Public Administration and then to work as an Area Director for the American Cancer Society. I am now blessed to be a mother full-time. Although my duties include menial tasks like endless laundry and dishwashing, I relish the little moments with my family and I enjoy the freedom I have to help develop their talents and mine. We value most giving our children meaningful experiences such as adventures in the outdoors like a 35-mile canoe/kayak trip last Summer or in opportunities to serve. My dream to return to Central America where I had worked as a volunteer was recently fulfilled when together with our children we served a medical/dental mission in the poor villages of Nicaragua. The mantra I try to live my life by is “because I have been given much, I too must give.”

Hi, I'm Kelsey - People

I am an artist, a human rights activist, a student, a "feminist," and a voracious reader. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a university student finishing my Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and starting law school. I do a lot of research and work relative to human trafficking and violence against women and girls, and am active in promoting better human rights, education, and health for women and girls in developing countries. I currently teach an undergraduate refugee health class at my university, and I love having the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded students. I also LOVE to read, I often stay up until 2 and 3 in the morning just reading books! My friends and husband think I'm crazy, but I really do love it. I am also an artist, and I have been drawing since I can remember and painting in oil and acrylic since middle school. I love to go on long, fun bike rides with my husband, who I met at an LDS youth camp called EFY when I was 14 years old. We lived in different states but stayed great friends, and wrote letters to each other and talked on the phone until we met up again in college and started dating then. He's my best friend! Mostly, I'm a pretty happy lady! :) There are a lot of horrific and terrible things that happen in our world, but I am confident that if we educate ourselves and stand up for what is right and good, we can continue to make this world a more peaceful home.

Hi, I'm Jessamin - People

I am a mother, a wife and an artist. I love chocolate, rainbows, butterflies and helicopter seeds. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello. My name is Jessamin. I am 26 years old. I grew up in a little town in New Mexico. I came from a good home with parents that taught me good principles. When I was about 13, I attended a Baptist Church with a friend. My parents always supported me in my religious efforts. My parents were raised Catholic so we would attend Mass for Christmas and Easter but we were not regular church goers. After High school I went to France on a foreign exchange program for a year where I experienced a wonderful culture and met amazing people. I attended college at New Mexico State University where I was introduced to the church. I then transferred to BYU. I just graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from BYU. I am married to a wonderful husband and I have a beautiful girl. I have been a member of the Church since September 23, 2006.

Hi, I'm Roberta - People

I am a returned senior missionary and am now serving as a Church-service missionary. My life is God & family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a convert to the Church and have completed two missions as a senior missionary with my husband. These missions have been the greatest growing experiences and blessings of our lives (aside from marriage and children). We have 12 wonderful children between the two of us, all of whom are 100% loving and supportive. We have 26 grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Family means everything to us, but we left our family for a little while to take the gospel to others so they can know about God's great plan of happiness whereby we can have our families with us forever. None of my relatives are members of the Church, so I have a lot of family history and temple work to do for my ancestors. I love nature, reading, writing, and photography. My professional career was school counseling and I still enjoy helping people find success in life. My life is now dedicated to watching over my family and using my time and talents to serve my Heavenly Father and fellow human beings in whatever way possible. One way I hope to brighten up even a tiny spot in the world for someone is through my new blog--Happiness-Faith-Hope.blogspot.com.
