Hi, I'm Emily - People

About Me

My name is Emily, and I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 27 September 2009. I am Deaf, but received bilateral cochlear implants in 2010. I found the church through my ballroom dance teacher and his wife (who became my best friend). Because I grew up in a divorced home with many difficult issues, their example to me of what a family could really be was critical in my process of learning about the church. My conversion took nine months of intense study, as well as behavior changes that included giving up alcohol, coffee, and piercings. Oh, and things like chastity and tithing. And learning that I do love my family, after all, and all the repentance work that comes with discovering what that means. I heart the Temple with all the heart I've got. I have gone almost every week since I got baptized. It has brought much healing to me and to my family. In my professional life that is an attempt to be self-sufficient, I am a licensed therapist with my PhD. For fun, I love ballroom dancing, and wandering through nature to write and paint. I enjoy taking pictures for my blog. I am single still, and that has been important for me to take time on my own to learn who I truly am as defined by Heavenly Father rather than defining myself by other people. I am a daughter of God! I know that marriage is an important part of the plan, and I look forward to getting married in the Temple when it is time. I have a little dog that I love very much. Even though he is ugly.

Hi, I'm Jamie - People

I’m a mom of three with a PhD in Engineering. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the Colorado Rocky Mountains with a rock-hound miner for a grandfather. My grandparents were a big part of my childhood, and inspired me to pursue metallurgy. Grampy was self-educated. I was the first one in my family to get a PhD. I love school, love being a student, and love being a teacher. I believe one of the reasons God sent us here is so we can learn. I’ve worked in mineralogy, pyrometallurgy, and gold ore labs, and have written MD simulations. I’ve taught lecture and lab courses, published papers, spoken at conferences, and traveled the world with my research, but I digress. The most important things in my life are not listed on my vita. My oldest daughter once asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I told her I wanted to be an astronaut. She thought about my answer, and then she asked, “What happened?” (I didn’t grow up to be an astronaut). In reply, I looked her straight in the eye, and told her I did something better. I had her. Out of all my accomplishments, my three children are my crowning jewels. Harold B. Lee said “The [greatest] work you will ever do will be within the walls of your own home”. This is true. Advances in medicine, energy, science, and engineering are worthless without the people they are designed to serve. As fascinating as rocks are, the most important things to learn about are family, love, and God. All the knowledge in the world is pointless without the next generation to pass it along to, and without a hope in God.

Hi, I'm Melissa - People

I work in a day care center. I live in the state of Oregon and enjoy the outdoors! I'm a mormon!

About Me

I love the beautiful creations of our loving Heavenly Father, so any chance I get to hike, camp, fish or do other things in the great outdoors, I'm usually there! I enjoy learning about children and their behaviors, the way they develop and adapt in different situations. I hope to one day become an advocate for children and do social work. I love to sing! Whether that is along with the radio, kareoke or hymns, I love to sing! I grew up in Utah and was baptized at age 8. Even though I grew up in a very strong LDS environment, my home environment was not so strong. We had values and tried to go to chruch, but it wasn't taught much. I had always felt inside that being LDS was the right path and I couldn't think of doing or being anything else. Being LDS and living the gospel, has helped create a foundation for me! I know where I came from, I know where I will go and I know how I can find out why I am here! I know that I have received blessings because I have choosen to live this path of righteousness and to follow my Savior! I know that this is the true church of Christ, restored back to the earth through Prophet Jospeh Smith! I know that Joseph Smith and Thomas S. Monson are true prophets of God and were sent here to this earth to bring to pass His work! To lead and guide His saints to eternal life and to help all His children come back to live with Him!

Hi, I'm Kristin - People

About Me

I was born and raised in the church. I have two sons, a daughter and one step son. I have 12 grandchildren, 6 girls & 6 boys. In July, 2011 I became a gr-grandmother to a sweet little boy named, Seeley Michael. My most favorite hobby is my family. I enjoy crocheting, reading, scrap-booking, and sewing for my grandchildren. My wonderful husband and I serve as temple workers in the Portland, Oregon Temple. This is our way of escaping from the world one day a week. I am a retired RN, but keep my license active so I can be the Stake camp nurse. I do work part time doing assessments and delegations for a home care agency. My husband is my love and my life; he retired from our local school district. He put in 22 years as a head custodian. Now he works at home repairing washers and dryers. His hobby is Nissan/Dutsan pickups. Anyone who runs the circle tracks in Central Oregon comes to him for parts.

Hi, I'm Jared - People

About Me

Hi, I'm Jared. I've loved to learn all my life, and so, no surprise, I became a teacher! Although endorsed as a language arts teacher (I love the art of words and the power of writing throughout the ages), I also love astronomy, history, biology, anatomy, visual arts, and social arts and culture. My wife and I found each other via online dating (yes, it can work!), and have one beautiful child. For hobbies, I enjoy hiking, creative writing, analytical writing, designing solar systems, and designing "alien" societies. I also love video games, where I can experience virtual realities or simulations (which works well when you like to write sci fi or fantasy).

Hi, I'm Dave - People

I'm a language lover, a music maker, a multicultural food devourer, a teacher of my kids and grandkids. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love pulling people closer into my circle and expanding my circle to include them. I love the languages and cultures and the people of Central Asia, and I enjoy being a language administrator. Most of my co-workers are Muslim, and I love working with them as we create textbooks, multimedia materials and mobile apps for Turkic and Iranian languages. We also teach language and culture to students from academic, business, military and other governmental organizations, many of whom later travel or work in Afghanistan, Western China or various Eurasian countries. I enjoy creating music, vocal and instrumental. I also love roller coasters and stormy weather. I’ve been laid off twice. Despite trials and defeat, I have always felt a success as a parent, and as a result, I’ve felt successful in general. I love my wife. She is an organizer extraordinaire; her influence as a teacher of youth cannot be measured. We are empty nesters with six amazing adult kids, a daughter and five sons. We have a bunch of wonderful grandkids. My favorite age is the teenage years. I love having teenagers; it's when their hearts and minds kick in in full gear. Teenagerhood -- well prepared for -- is a joy. Real travel for me starts where English is not spoken and dollars are not used. I love eating international foods of all sorts and discussing them with my family. I enjoy talking to folks of all sorts; I love learning from people who aren't like me.

Hi, I'm Aysel Bariscan Alldredge - People

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Turkey and now live in Colorado. I love to do genealogy in Turkey and surrounding areas.

About Me

I'm the only member in my family. My siblings & I grew up in the beautiful and ancient city of Izmir, Turkey , located on the majestic Aegean Sea. Izmir is rich in ancient history and was formally the Greek and Roman city of Smyrna. Alexander the Great at one time conquered the castle at Smyrna. Me literally grew up playing on the Agora Roman ruins found in downtown Izmir. Picturesque Greek islands can be seen from the shores near Izmir and the beaches, hills, and villages in this area are beautiful, rich and fertile in every way.My brother Mesut's art has been highly influenced by soaking in the history and culture of the beautiful land of the Aegean sun . Some of the inspiring ancient sites that Mesut Bariscan and I often visited are Ephesus, with its wonderful amphitheater and library of Celsus, the Seven Ancient Churches, Bergama, Hierapolis, Aphrodisias, Didyma, Pamukkale, Cappadocia, Troy (city of the famous Trojan Horse), and the awe inspiring sites of Istanbul. The coastline along the Aegean is majestically beautiful lined with serene villages and thriving resort communities such as Cesme, Altinkum, Bodrum, Kusadasi and Marmaris to name just a few. I've done my family genealogy and also my clients in Turkey and surrounding areas, Greece, Bulgaria, Cypress. It is so amazing to search for the people behind the veil.

Hi, I'm Charlotte - People

I have been on both sides of the fence and am grateful for the Atonement. I'm proud to be a Mormon

About Me

I'm a single 27 year old Daughter of God, and am trying to see and become the person that God sent me here to be. I have been on both sides of the fence and can say for a fact that I am much more happy, the TRUE happiness that all of us desire. I know that everything happens for a reason, even though at times I question why we have to be going through such hard things, but I never think that there isn't a purpose behind everything we do! SATAN SUCKS!

Hi, I'm Ryan - People

I'm an Actor. I'm an Engineer. I'm a husband. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am used to things not working out. I studied Pre-Medicine before going to theater school and getting a Musical Theater degree which somehow led me to become an Engineer. I have been a student, a professional actor, and a computer technician. In the midst of things working out and not working out, I found my beautiful wife and we are excited to welcome our first baby into our family. Through the support of family during times when finding a job seemed impossible I have been able to live a very full life. I went from Idaho, to California, to Boston and now we live in New York City. We have been blessed to make things work during difficult economic times, find a good home, good jobs, and a safe place to have a family of our own. My wife works with Broadway theater companies to bring the arts to kids around New York. I work as an Engineer for NBC Universal. We love to play in a big city, but we also love spending time at home and enjoying a peaceful day.

Hi, I'm Natalie - People

I am a social work master's student, a horrible cook, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently getting my master's degree in social work. I am working at a residential chemical dependence rehabilitation center for adolescents. These young ladies have taught me that even the worst situations can change if there is hope and determination to get past them. I have absolutely no cooking skills so one of my current hobbies is trying out new recipes and hoping that I do not burn the house down in the process. I also like to go to the zoo, hike in the woods, read almost everything I can get my hands on and watch movies with my husband. I love life and I love my family even though neither are perfect.

Hi, I'm Nathan - People

I grew up in Nevada and have recently moved to Alaska. When I grow up I want to be a social worker. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a single father of a 13 year old little girl who is the source of much joy in my life. I have worked in management most of my career and I continue to go to school to one day become a social worker. Since I work full time I only take 1-2 classes a semester, I am obviously not in any rush. In my free time I love to go geocaching, I discovered it a few years ago and have seen many places around the country I would have otherwise drove past. I love music, I can play quite a few different instruments including the clarinet and the alto sax (my favorite for jazz). I love missionary work, most of the callings I have had in the church have had something to do with missionary work including Ward Mission Leader several times. I love working with the missionaries and watching people change their lives as they accept the Gospel and the Savior into their lives.

Hi, I'm Norman Dale - People

About Me

My mother had a strick rule about being home a 10pm every night. This was about the time most homes were able to have a TV in their homes and she would let me stay up and watch the news and weather after that I had to turn it off and go to bed. Looking at my past live style I can understand how that little thing kept me out of a lot of trouble, in my behaviour with society and my personal upbringing. It is supprising how a little thing like that had such an impact on my life today.
