The Savior taught to forgive, to love one another and to forgive. For a long time that was a challenge for me. I grew up in a very abusive home. My parents neglected me, disciplined cruelly. I also dealt with sexual abuse and the drug and alcohol abuse of my parents. Although my father was eventually convicted of his crimes, it was hard for me to forgive my father and mother. They left so many scars in my life. I had so many memories I was sure would never heal.
But what did Jesus Christ do for those who hurt Him? He prayed for them. He loved them. He taught to forgive. To love. Even on the cross He prayed for those who caused Him the most pain. It was a long process, but over time I was able to cast aside the anger, relying on the healing power of Jesus Christ to mend my wounds and turn my anger to peace.
I eventually came to realize that I could let my past experiences break me, or I could use those experiences to strengthen others. I chose to let go of anger and move on, forgiving my father and helping others who are now where I escaped.

The Savior teaches us to withhold judgement. Almost all of his acts of service during his mortal life were to the derelict and undesirable members of society. Growing up, it was hard to be nonjudgmental when someone annoyed me, or didn't conform to what I thought was stylish, entertaining, or important. One of the ironic results of this mindset is that we lose self-respect quickly, become embarrassed often, and find ourselves without true friends. The best relationships are those that we have to work for. Both parties see the other as the reward of an effort of compromise, love, and patience. Everyone is a child of God, and it is up to us to search, discern, and magnify the divinity in each member of our amazing and diverse family.

One of my favorite teachings from the Savior is the story about the 10 lepers. To summarize, Jesus heals 10 lepers, or men with leperousy, a terrible disease that causes the skin to rot. After healing the 10 men, all but one run to the village to be reunited with their families. One single man remains, falls to his kness at Jesus' feet, and thanks Him. I marvel that only one remembered to be grateful! This story touches me, and reminds me that I need to recognize what the Lord has done in my life, for me. I try to focus on gratitude, and always thank the Lord for the blessings that I receive. In my opinion, the worst thing we can do is overlook our Savior. So lets all be like the one instead of the nine, and let us thank or Savior for His many blessings.

Last night my family and I read in St. Luke, chapter 14, verses 1-11. I am amazed that the Son of God consistently reminds us to be humble. While I try and teach my children principles from the life of Christ, I think I end up benefitting more from our simple discussions.

So many of the Savior's teachings have had an important and influential impact on my life. During my missionary service in the Dominican Republic, I made a goal of becoming more educated than I then was about the Savior's teachings and his life. As I read of his life and studied his ministry in the New Testament I found great comfort in his words from eleventh chapter of Matthew "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." I began to understand that through the Savior's Atonement, if I would but come unto Him and serve Him, I could feel great peace and joy in this life.
Shortly after I returned from my missionary service, my only sister passed away from cancer at the age of 30. I was heartbroken. Nothing felt easy or light. I remembered the Savior's promise that He could give me rest. I remembered the words of Alma in the Book of Mormon: "And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with
mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities." (Alma 7:12). I exercised faith on these teachings and petitioned my Father in Heaven to comfort me through the Savior's perfect empathy and power to heal. My sadness was not eliminated, but through the simple and sublime influence of the Holy Ghost He unmistakably comforted me. I have a testimony of His Atonement and His ability to provide us with peace and comfort in a world often full of sadness and discouragement. How grateful I am to Him for the peace He offers, which peace comes through the power of His atoning sacrifice and the love He has demonstrated for each of us.

The words of the Savior from Matthew 25:40, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me," continue to influence my life. At times my first impression is to judge others, but then these words remind me that all of us are children of a loving Heavenly Father who wants each of us to succeed, and my job is to find ways to lift and help anyone I meet. This starts at home where I need to be ready to help my wife and children, even when I'm tired and have things I'd rather be doing, and it extends to all my interactions through work, service, and brief chance encounters. You never know when a smile or a kind word or deed gives much needed hope or help to another!

John 13:34
"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye alove one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."
Several years ago we were at the hospital with one of our children who was having a minor surgery. While we were in the surgical waiting area, a family came in with their son. He was disabled with cerebral palsy and had no control over his limbs. Lovingly and gently that mother undressed her son and put on his hospital gown, while the father neatly folded the boys clothing. Then they wrapped their boy, who was almost as tall as they were, in a warm blanket and the mother cradled him in her arms and rocked him. As she stroked his face and looked into her child's eyes, his muscles relaxed and he was at peace. As we reflected on this experience later in the day, we commented that we had felt the love that Jesus Christ has for us through the eyes of that mother.

I think the biggest one is faith without works is dead. Sometimes we believe but we let our insecurities and self doubt cloud us in confusion and won't let us do the work we know we should do. Like being a good example, or making a decision to follow good. We should be able to be confident in ourselves and beliefs and choices and proudly stand in any situation and be an example of those beliefs we have faith in. We need to trust our Savior and follow him. We also need to trust ourselves

All of the Savior's teachings have influenced me in some way or another. I love reading the Sermon on the Mount. The Savior teaches us how we should act and treat other people. He also gave us the higher law. He told us to not only love our friends but to love our enemies too. The Savior also taught by His example. He loved everyone the same. We can let His example be an outline on how we should live our lifes.

The Savior's example of sacrifice really showed me a better understanding of Heavenly Father's purpose. Most people read John 3:16 and often quote it. After studying John 17, I realized what their (Heavenly Father, Christ, and the Holy Ghost) purpose really is. It's to bring Eternal life and immortality to all men, no matter what race, or gender, and that Christ is not just the Savior of the people living Jerusalem. Because Christ was the first to be resurrected (spirit and body united once again in perfect form), we all will one day too, or else his sacrifice and resurrection would have been in vain. Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are one in mind with one purpose, and for this purpose are they united in their actions, and I'd already mentioned what that is, which is Eternal life to all who believe. Heavenly Father did it by sending Christ down to die for us, so that we one day might live again. Christ did it by suffering in the garden and gave up his life on the cross, and the Holy Spirit is doing by testifying to us that these things are true. And they want us to be one in mind and purpose with them to, and that is to fulfill this purpose and bringing all of our brethren and sisters closer to Christ through Baptism which is symbolic of Christ's death and Resurrection. We can be one through missionary work and serving others. Don't believe me? Then read and study John 3:16, and John 17 carefully again but this time with "that purpose of bringing Eternal life to all men" in mind. A matter of fact, read the whole Bible with that in mind, and count how many times you see the words "eternal life, life eternal, and everlasting life" you'll get a different perspective. You'll also become more like Christ and see everyone as precious children of God. That's how the Savior's example of sacrifice have changed my life, in helping me to understand their purpose, and seeing everyone as my brother and sister.

Christ's invitation to come follow him is the most profound to me. I have found that we must follow Jesus in every way to be able to receive all he wishes to give us. In following him we become like him. Of all his teachings & commands this is the most inclusive for me. It can seems unattainable to be like Jesus, but for me it means to have charity, to be charity. It is the one teaching that covers every thing we should be or do. All of his teachings are amazing, and this one gives me one goal to achieve, and lots of reason to study his words.

The greatest teaching of the Savior for me is this, Love one another as I have loved you. Love one another, wow this is huge. There are a lot of people in this world who do things that are hurtful to themselves. It seems only natural you would want to avoid these people. But the Savior didn't say love those who love me only. He didn't say only love the good. He didn't say only love those who follow my example. The Savior said to love everyone. This means to not judge another as well. My duty is to love all. So i treat all with the same respect I would expect from them.

One of the greatest lessons I've learned from the teachings of the Saviour is to serve. He told his disciples to "love thy neighbor as thyself." If all of us put this into action, what an amazing world we would live in! Just think of it - people by nature generally hold themselves in high regard. You want to take care of your body, get yourself nice things, you respect your body and you love YOU. Now transfer that love to your neighbors! That doesn't just mean the person who lives next door to you - it's anyone you come in contact with! I love to read examples of Christ giving services to his followers, his chosen disciples, and all those who sought him. I try to reach out to neighbors, family, and friends with service, compassion, and charity. Sometimes it's as simple as smiling at someone driving past me down the street, other times I bring a meal to a sick friend. I'm not perfect, but I do my best to serve others, which strengthens my love for them and for myself. I'm glad to be a server and a friend to those around me!

The Savior Jesus Christ is our brother from Heaven. He existed in spirit form, as did we all, before the creation of our mortal life as we know it. Everyone is a son or daughter of God, and we are all brothers and sisters in Heaven and on earth. In this premortal existence Jesus Christ (Jehovah) volunteered to be and was chosen to be the Savior of the world by God our Heavenly Father (Elohim). God’s plan in doing this was to give us the opportunity to return to Heaven after our life on earth through the infinite and eternal atoning sacrifice of the Only Begotten Son of God on earth. God’s wonderful plan is called the Plan of Salvation and is available to everyone who comes to earth. The Savior’s teachings that influence me most is how much Jesus willingly suffered for us to fulfill the atonement and while at the conclusion of what only Christ could suffer He said, “Father, forgive them”. Forgiveness is love. God is love.

When the Savior in the Garden of Gethsemane said to His Father, not my will, but thine be done has helped me to know that when I submit my will to Heavenly Fathers will, I will have greater peace in my life and can become the person He wants me to be. I really learned that when my son almost died, that I am not in control and that as soon as I give up my will, I will be stronger and a better person through these trials. Heavenly Father created us and everything around us. How can I think that I know what is better for me than He does. Sometimes I think I do...but He sees the whole picture and knows what will help me return to Him.

The first one that comes to mind is part of the Sermon on the Mount Matthew 634 - Take therefore no thought for the morrow for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Or if you read the form when Christ speaks to the Nephites on the American continent after his resurrection, 3 NephI 1334 ... sufficient is the day unto the evil thereof. To me, this is a reminder that while life is often hard, there's little point in borrowing tomorrow's worries when you still have today in front of you. There's plenty enough to be doing today, and if you consider the second version - you're given enough each day to conquer at length. We are promised that the Lord will allow no temptation to befall us that we are not capable of handling and I think these verses show the same idea applies to all trials in life and not just the ones that might incline us to less than perfect behavior. It also helps me to feel that, if things get too overwhelming, I can just put my concerns on the shelf and let myself be still for the next day will come and I will have strength again to go on.

Most definitely repentance and forgiveness. I make mistakes. simple as that. We could not become clean from sin if it were not for the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us. When we sin we feel burdened with a load that we cannot carry alone. Satan tries his absolute hardest to have us think that we cannot be forgiven and that we are not worth the time. This is NOT true. As we repent with a sincere heart full of desire, WE ARE FORGIVEN. I have felt my burdens literally lifted from me as I have applied the Atonement of Jesus Christ in my life. I know that when our burdens are lifted that our sins are remembered no more, and that we have the chance to continue onward with an eye of faith knowing that we are never alone. I love Jesus Christ. Words cannot express the amount of love and gratitude that I have for him. He has experienced all that we have experienced and so much more. "I Know That My Redeemer Lives!"

Judge not lest ye be judged. I think I've learned the hard way that I'm nowhere near perfect and if I expect God to be patient and forgiving with me, then I'm required to be patient and forgiving with others. Only God knows exactly how everyone feels and how their past circumstances led them to where they are in life, so He is the only one who can be a truly just judge of our character.

My favorite scripture story is found in the New Testament. It is the story of the Good Samaritan. It is asked of Christ, "What shall I do to inherit eternal life?" Christ then replies, "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and love they neighbor as thyself". The question is then asked, "Who is my neighbor?".
Christ begins to teach this principle through a parable. A man passes along a street and is beaten and left for dead along a dusty path. Several men pass by the injured man and decide to pass on instead of offering help. It is a Samaritan who ends up taking the injured upon his animal and leaving him in an inn to heal.
I have often thought and questioned if I am like the Good Samaritan? Do I turn the other way when I see someone in need? If I do, what is stopping me? Is it pride? A lack of time? Is it embarrassment or a feeling of inadequacy? All of those issues hinder our responsibility to love our neighbor. In the world there are people of different nationalities, races, and religions. We can choose to focus on our differences or to focus on our commonalities. We are children of God. We are literally spirit brothers and sisters.
Jesus Christ has taught us to love everyone and to treat others with respect. I have a picture of the story of the Good Samaritan beside my bed. I resolve each time I see it to be the one who will stop by and administer to the injured, the feeble of heart, or the weary when everyone else passes on their way.

The plan of salvation or in other words the plan of happiness has influenced me because it has helped me to really appreciate the meaning of family and that it isn't just till the end of this life, that it will continue in to the eternities. It also make you appreciate your spouse more, in the sense that the two of you are a unit working together to get to where you need to be and that is the celestial kingdom for eternity.

I think the lesson that the Savior taught that has influenced me the most is to "love one another". I don't think He meant just to love my family, my friends, or people like me. I think He meant everyone. Every human in the world, whether I agree with them or not. He loves us all unconditionally. He asks us to do the same. It can be really hard, but it helps me to remember that everyone I see is one of His children, and that I should treat them that way.

Love one another. I LOVE this simple concept that Christ taught mankind. Christ was the perfect teacher when it came to loving and serving others, and I am nowhere near the level of compassion, concern, and love that he shared toward others. Despite my failings, however, I want to be like Him in this area- I want to love as Christ loved- without guile, judgments, or expectations. Whenever I serve others, whether it be making a meal for a family who is struggling, or helping build homes for Habitat for Humanity, I can feel the Savior's love and hope that I can share His love with others!

Forgiveness. It took me the longest time to realize how important it was to forgive others of things they had done to me in the past. I was studying with my missionary companion and I realized something very important. Why would God forgive me of my sins if I was unwilling to forgive others for what they had done against me? It's not our job to judge and when we figure this out our lives become so much happier.

I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. His life and ministry were an example for all of us. He lived a perfect life, and then provided the ultimate gift of his atonement. Jesus taught us, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." "If ye love me, feed my sheep." "If ye love me, love one another."
Since I love my Savior, I want to be His servant. I want Him to know that He can trust me to keep his commandments and feed his sheep--which I interpret as "look out for the needs of others and be an instrument in His hands." I love learning more about Him and his servants in the New Testament. I love the stories of the Old Testament and the life lessons taught by Bible heroes. The Book of Mormon helps me learn more about my Savior. He came and visited the people on the American continent after he was crucified. Reading from the scriptures helps me learn more about Jesus and the way He served others. As I learn of Him, I feel better prepared to act on promptings to serve someone else.

When I was sixteen years old, my brother died in a hiking accident when he was 27, leaving our family devastated. I became horribly depressed, and longed more than anything to see him again. Our church taught me that I would see him again, which brought me some comfort, but the pain was still very real to me. It wasn't until I read the Book of Mormon that I read a part that explained the Atonement of Christ. For the first time I understood that the Atonement wasn't just for our sins, but the Atonement was for our sorrows. Jesus Christ knew what I was feeling. He understood my longing, pain, and grief. When I understood that, a was swept over with a blanket of peace and I felt comfort. Through time, he healed my aching heart tenderly and with a very real love. I still miss my brother, but that empty hole doesn't consume me anymore, and when I look back on my experience, I can remember how Christ healed me. In the New Testament, Christ healed the sick and afflicted. And He has healed my sick and afflicted heart.

In the Sermon on the Mount in the Bible or the Sermon at the Temple in the Book of Mormon (the Savior taught the same principles on both the eastern and western continents), Jesus tells us not to be angry with our brethren, not to resist or resent evil, to turn the other cheek, to go the second mile, not to judge others, to be a light to others, but not boastfully, and many other things. These teachings have taught me to put God's kingdom first and focus on Christ. As I do so, he shows me an objective attitude in which I can show charity towards others.

As the only member of the church in my grade school, I believe I was protected with the standards that the Church offers young people. My closest school friend began smoking in 5th grade. I did not join her; I had been taught that my body is a trust. I needed to take care of it. Another friend in 6th grade pressured me to “date” (so maybe it was simply to hold hands on the school grounds) but as youth in our church are encouraged to save dating until at least age 16, I watched my best friend instead, hold hands with the cutest boy in the school. When I later learned that this boy had smuggled vodka to school in his lunch pail, I decided I had been safeguarded rather than cheated by my church’s banner of virtue held up for youth.

The greatest blessing I have experienced is understanding the Savior's atonement. As I came to understand that we do not have to be perfect in this life we just have to try to be the best we can and try to be obedient to his commandments. When we follow the commandments we will be happier and healthier spiritually, physically and emotionally. But there are times we fall short of our best. What happens then? Well repentance is the way back from sin. Having faith in Christ and repenting of our sins shows our Heavenly Father we are trying to be like Him. The Savior's atonement helps make up for the difference when we fall short of righteous living. The Savior demonstrated mercy unto the sinners and justice It is through the Atonement, that great sacrifice that only He could make that we shall all receive salvation and exaltation. If I had only one message to share with the world it would be of the Savior's atonement. The word means "at - one - with" and thus if we are at one with the Savior in our actions than he is at one with us and the payment he made for us is unique and personal. He did it for me and he did it for you. He knows our names, he knows our struggles and he knows our every need. How great a sacrifice for each of us is the atonement. This is the most influential teaching of the gospel in my life.

One of my favorite teachings from the Savior is when he teaches us to lay up treasures in heaven and says "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also". That teaching is something that I have always carried with me. In my opinion, life is about learning to set priorities and then living accordingly. In this world of twitter and facebook, there are constantly a million different things that are developed specifically to catch our attention and if we're not careful we can get distracted from what's really important.
So, what are my treasures? First and foremost, my God. I love him and I have dedicated my life to following the path to get me back to him. Second, my family. I love them and I never want to let them down. Third, my education. I love to learn, especially things that give me the capacity to help others. Fourth, everyone else! with what I learn I want to be able to serve people. That's where true happiness lies, forgetting about ourselves and going to work in aid of someone who's worse off than we are.

Much of the Bible (Old Testament) seems obscure to me, and when the suggested reading for the weekly sunday school class I attend was the book of Hosea, I thought the same. I first read Chapters 1-3, then thought, "What?!" The language used was strong, meaning it brought to my mind strong sensory associations. Words like: harlot, whoredom, lovers, nakedness, and lewdness,
I don't always make a concentrated effort to understand what I am reading, more than looking up a few referenced scriptures. But, after reading these chapters, I felt a little disturbed. I said a sincere prayer that night, that my mind might be open to the message in this book of scripture.
The next day, I looked again at these first chapters, and it was as though my mind was filled with understanding and great mercy towards the "unloveable", towards people who commit sins as described in the verses. The feeling of mercy came as I read the end of chapter 2 where the Lord offers forgiveness.
The application I took from these chapters is that I have permission to "love the unloveable" and to be loved, as I am at times, the unloveable.

I struggle with pride. It is often hard for me to humble myself enough to ask for the Lord's help. I like to think I can do everything on my own. Luckily, no matter how long it takes, the Lord is always waiting with blessings in tow. I have always wanted to be a mother. And after hearing so many warnings in high school about how careful one needs to be in order to prevent unwanted pregnancies, I just figured that once I was married conceiving would be a cinch. As it turns out, pregnancy can be as elusive as the end of a rainbow. I quickly became disheartened. The thing I wanted most in the world was the one thing I just couldn't get. Months of trying turned into years... lots of years. I began to lose hope. I felt my faith weaken. There were times when I couldn't even bring myself to attend church because seeing the families with little children, and the women who were pregnant would bring me to tears. I was jealous, and even a bit angry with God. I couldn't understand why he was denying me this righteous desire. Just when I had given up, on everything, on faith, on hope, on ever having a child... I met someone who reminded me of my many blessings and how lucky I am to have the knowledge of the fullness of the Gospel. All she did was ask a simple question... "Do you believe in Christ?" The answer hit me like a ton of bricks... Yes. My heart was humbled, my pride melted away. Yes, I believe in the Savior. And because I believe in Him, I also believe that he knows what is best for me. In 1Nephi chapter 3 verse 7 it says "...I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them." I knew that because the desire to be a mother was a righteous one, and a commandment, that the Lord would provide a way for that to happen. In this life, or the next... through natural means, or adoption... he would provide. I felt as though a huge weight had been lifted, I let go of my anger and my pride, and put my faith in Him once again.

When I first started developing a testimony of Christ it helped me learn that I was capable of being loved and that God did indeed love me. The more I have learned about the Savior I have learned that God would want me to love others and apply those principles to others. I have learned that everyone is capable of being loved including myself. I feel happiness and joy when I apply these principles to others and have been blessed immensely when I follow the Savior's example of love.
I also believe that God sent his son- Jesus Christ to atone for our sins. I need the atonement Christ provided to help me with my pains, weaknesses, and struggles. I have learned that by using the atonement I feel peace in my life and knowledge that Heavenly Father sent me (and everyone else) the Savior as a way to come back to live with Him.

I love the Savior's teachings but it isn't what He has taught that has influenced me, but instead, His example. These days, there are so many hardships, and I've noticed a failing hope around me, a lack of joy, and the feeling that we are too tired, or too worn down to serve others. The Savior was unfailingly full of hope, joy, service and I want to be just like Him. If that means smiling at a cranky cashier in the store, or helping a mom with a small child, or showing others by my actions that I firmly believe all will work out in the end, then that is what I will do.

The Savior's pure example of love and charity is what sticks with me. He was so gentle in His teachings and gave of Himself always. He fed the hungry, healed the sick, and called sinners to repentance. All with love and patience and kindness. That charity changed lives, continues to change lives. I try to give service where there is a need. I try to love everyone around me and try not to judge. I am not perfect in this, but am always trying to be better. I have found that through charity, you develop a deeper love for others, for Jesus Christ and for yourself. There is a greater abundance of love and joy when you live a life filled with charity and service.

Growing up your taught things like who our Savior is, God and going to church. But none of that matters until you have that personal relationship with God, and grasp the sacrafices our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ made for us.
My first relationship with him was in Dec '96. I was 16. It was the first time I'd picked up the scriptures on my own, and the first time I read it and felt something. It was Matthew 6:24. "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." I'd heard the saying "Money is the root of all evil" prior to this..so to me it all made sense. I refer back to this doctrine every time I am faced with trials. Knowing that every choice has a consequence. Good or Bad. Remembering where I've been and how far I've come..I'm reminded that the Master I serve, brings joy and comfort to life.

I spent a summer in Ghana, West Africa when I was a senior in college. At the time I thought it best to refuse money to those who asked or they would come to expect it of me and to depend on outside sources for their welfare. I had a wise teacher use scriptures to challenge me in this view.
I decided to study the Bible to see what Jesus taught about generosity. And I found that my view was not in harmony with the Savior's teachings at all. In the Sermon on the Mount the Savior counseled, "Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away" (Matt 5:42). Jesus Christ praises the widow who gave all she had to the treasury (Mark 12:44).And he counsels the rich young man to give all he had to the poor (Mark 10:21).
I left most of what I brought with me to Ghana with the friends I made there. I came home with a promise to myself that I would always give freely and seek the kingdom of God first. Because, as the Savior taught, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me" (Matt 25:40).

I have found that Charity and Love are the greatest blessingsof our Heavenly Father. When you are filled with that Pure Love of Christ, you can feel how immeasurably great you will feel when you share that. When I began learning about all the trials my ancestors went through, I began to appreciate them. That turned to love, and ultimately, turned me to love my Savior and my Heavenly Father. I know that this is sometimes difficult. Trust me, I understand. Life is hard. Take that leap of faith and always have love.

I think that all of the Saviors teachings have influenced me in my life and are teachings that I am continually striving to learn and incorporate in my life. The biggest one is to love one another, even as I have loved thee. We all come across people who may offend us or we may be quick to judge but we are taught to love everyone, to see them as all Heavenly Father's children. This teaching helped me a lot when working with children with special needs because even when there were some difficult behaviors that I would be working with or if I was struggling to teach one, I would remember that they are Heavenly Father's children and remember how much he must love them and want them to learn and grow and be loved and it would change my entire perspective. If we could all see everyone as another child of God and try to find the good in them this world would be a different place. It is not something I have even come close to mastering and is something we could all work on each day.

After being a professional editor for over three years, I have learned that life itself is not only about rule following. Unlike words and texts, where meaning can be manipulated and misconstrued, life is a series of trial and error--a purposeful series, that is. Because of this fact, there is no room to judge others as you would their writing because life can never be perfect for anyone.
The Savior's teachings emphasize rules, of course, but the Golden Rule is simple: Love God. Love others. Love yourself.

The Savior's teachings about forgiveness have blessed my life as I have tried to forgive others that I too might be forgiven (Luke 6:37). I remember my first experience in praying that I might be able to forgive someone. I had felt troubled for many years by an early experience. After I joined the Church and began learning about the teachings of Jesus, I knew that if I was going to be able to be forgiven of my own sins, I needed to be able to forgive others, no matter how difficult that might seem. When I began my prayer asking that I might be able to forgive a particular person, I didn't know if this was going to be a possible task, but I had faith that if anyone could help me be able to do this, it was my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I was unprepared for the amazing experience that followed. When I finished my prayer, it was as though a huge load had been lifted from my heart. I truly felt like rejoicing. Although I still remember the experience that caused me emotional pain for so many years, I no longer feel burdened by the memory, nor do I feel anger toward the person.

I am constantly amazed by the love and humility of the Savior. He is incredible! "And the world, because of their iniquity, shall judge him to be a thing of naught; wherefore they scourge him, and he suffereth it; and they smite him, and he suffereth it. Yea, they spit upon him, and he suffereth it, because of his loving kindness and his long-suffering towards the children of men." (1 Nephi 19:9) We all need to be a little bit more like the Savior, we need to have a little bit more compassion and understanding for our fellow men. We need to bite back our pride and humble ourselves. These are the the teachings of the Savior that have greatly influenced my life.

The Savior's teachings have given me the knowledge that there is more to life than just what happens here on earth. Knowing this causes any person to look forward through the difficult challenges that life brings with an understanding that these trials will only make us stronger.
Learning that God lives and that he loves us gave me hope as a young run-away. There were so many nights when I felt so alone growing up, simply questioning life itself. What happens after we die? Where do we go? etc. When I came to know for myself that God lives and that life goes on after death has caused me to fight through some of the most challenging times in my life. It has caused me to care more for myself and more for those around me.
The teachings of Jesus Christ have been an amazing example of how to live this life as part of a community, always caring for others, forgiving those who have caused me harm and just letting go with the knowledge that if I trust in the Lord then my trials will become building blocks for me as a person.

One of my favorite stories from the life of the Savior is when a man comes and tells Him all that he has done to live what He has taught and then asks "what lack I yet"? The Savior tells him to sell all he has and "come and follow me". The man goes away sad because he was unable to do what the Savior asked. It has influenced me to examine my life more frequently to discover "what lack I yet" and then try to work on one short coming at a time.

One of the Savior's teachings that has really influenced my life is to love one another. While on this earth he taught through his perfect example. I love to read about the many miracles he performed, the service he did, and about how he interacted with those around him. He loves every person so much. In the scriptures we read of the countless times that Christ healed, blessed, prayed for, raised from the dead, and taught those around him. Everything he did was an act of service and an act of love. Because of his love for us, he was willing to suffering beyond what we can comprehend or imagine, and then to give up his life. He did those things for us, his friends. (John 15:13) And also, our Heavenly Father was willing to let His Son do those things for us because He loves us so much also. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for Him to watch His Only Begotten Son suffer the way he did.
I know that I can show my love and gratitude for my Savior and Heavenly Father by serving those around me. (Mosiah 2:17) If Christ were on the earth right now, I know that he would be serving God's childern, but because he isn't here right now, there are many times when he's counting on us to share his love. We can do simple acts of service to show others that they are loved and to share the love of Christ. I know that it makes him happy to see us serving and loving one another, and I'm so grateful for this principle that he taught through his example.

The Savior's teaching of love one another as you love yourself has changed my life. Often when I am feeling depressed, it is because I am thinking too much of myself and the troubles I face. Yet, as I turn my thoughts to those around me and maybe the troubles they are facing, I no longer am depressed and my love for that individual grows. One of the reasons I joined a serach and rescue team was because of this teaching of the Savior. I know that God loves all of His children, and He seeks to reach out His arms and gather His children back in. I hope to share the love of our Father in Heaven to those that are lost. We all have felt lost at one moment at another, and I want those individuals in my community to know that someone loves them enough to put away the things in their life to come and help them return to those they love.

Well, all of them. As the years pass and my experience grows, I find all of the Savior's teachings to be of influence. When I was younger, I found some of the teachings easy and some difficult. As I matured by living more and more of the teachings, I realized that I cannot pick and choose. I must show my faith by living them all. I have gained enough experience through faithful obedience that my hope in Christ burns bright. I trust Him. I believe in Him. I want to do more to obey Him.

I have been most influenced by the Savior's teachings on repentance and forgiveness. I realize that all of us are human and make mistakes. We sometimes do things that are contrary to the teachings of the Savior. He has provided a way for us to repent of the things we've done and to be forgiven. It is not always without consequences and sometimes not easy but the wonderful and peaceful feeling that comes from really repenting and receiving God's forgiveness is wonderful. It has been an influence for good in my life and made me aware of what I say and do. I'm a better person because of His teachings.

The life of service led by Jesus Christ has been an influence for good in my life.
I am grateful for and have been blessed by the example of my father who taught me the Savior’s principles of service and provided opportunities to put those principles into practice during the years of my youth and later as an adult. I have great memories of giving service on Church Welfare Farms and in Canneries irrigating crops, hoeing weeds, sorting peanuts and making peanut butter, pruning fruit trees.
I remember driving with my father into depressed parts of the cities where we lived, anonymously delivering boxes of food to people in need, none of whom we knew or were members of the church. During my High School years our family lived near Tokyo, Japan. I can remember taking a late night trip far to the north of the city to take some American food purchased on the military base to a full-time missionary who was ill and having a difficult time adjusting to Japanese food.
Another vivid memory from my youth involves service that our family rendered to widowed sisters wherever we have lived. I remember one widow who lived in our congregation. What an adventure it must have been as we stopped and took this elderly woman to church with us every Sunday for both Sunday school in the morning and Sacrament Meeting in the afternoon. In many instances like this one, it was probably inconvenient for a family with six small children to provide this service. It may have been easier to let someone else serve. I am grateful that my parents didn’t look at service that way either then or now.
At the final day the Savior will not ask about our material possessions or fame. He will ask instead if we ministered to the sick, gave food and drink to the hungry, visited the widows, the fatherless, and those in prison, or gave succor to the weak. When we reach out to assist the least of Heavenly Father’s children, we do it unto Him. This is the essence of the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is how my father lived his life, a man of faith and devotion, committed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to the Lord’s church.

One of the Savior's teaching that influenced me is in St. John chapter 14 verse 1. Jesus said "Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God believe also in me". This scripture clarify me that Jesus Christ is the savior and redeemer of the world. Through him we can be with God again. In St John chapter15 verse 5 the Savior said "without me ye can do nothing" I know that that is God's truth. We should be attached to Jesus Christ. This is Jesus Christ's church and His Kingdom on earth. He restored it through the Prophet Joseph Smith. I know some people see us in different perspective but Jesus Christ foretold this in St John chapter 15 verse 18 and 19 it says "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you". I know that Joseph Smith was truly a prophet of God. Jesus is the Christ. Come and taste the doctrine of Christ and see if it's GOOD.

The greatest lesson the savior has taught and has influenced me the most is to love the lord thy God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind and to love thy neighbor as thyself. In the tenth chapter of the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament, Jesus Christ taught us about loving our neighbor. Teaching through a parable, he spoke of a Samaritan who went out of his way to help a stranger in need. Not only did the Samaritan stop to help, but he also watched over the man in need until he was certain he would recover. I try to think about this parable each time I see someone in a car broken down on the side of the road. I know that others have stopped to help me when I've needed help, and I know that Jesus Christ would go out of his way to help them if he were here...but that's why he sends us along; so that we can be there to help. Following the example and teachings of Jesus Christ brings me peace, and you can't beat the joy you feel after helping someone truly in need.

One of the Savior's teaching that has influenced me the most was given in the sermon on the mount to his disciples about judging others. I have striven to be like Christ in this regard and treat all people like he did. I have a long way to go but I think most of the hate and conflict in our world stems from false judgement of others. Elder Uchdorf (an apostle of our church) recently gave a talk regarding this principle. He said something interesting and I think it is very true. He said we always think we have enough information to pass judgement on another, but those who pass judgement on us never have enough information.

I would have to say that the teachings of Jesus are all so wonderful that is hard to choose, but the one teaching that is at the core of my faith is charity. Charity is the pure love of Christ. In Matthew 22:36-40, it reads, "Master, which is the great commandment in the law?" Jesus said unto him,"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." I learned as a child that true joy was putting Jesus first, others second and yourself last (J-Jesus, O-others, Y-yourself). It seems that I had this simple faith when I was young and my god mother (I called her nanny) nurtured all of the blessings that children are born with. I have never lost my connection with others. When I converted to the church in college, I learned two important things. First, I learned that we are all brothers and sisters, sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father. That simple teaching hit home with me because then I knew why I had that connection, that love for everyone I met. Secondly, I learned that Jesus died not only to save us from sin, but that in that forgiveness, we could be happy. Jesus and Heavenly Father set up this plan so that we could live together in love and happiness! These two truths have taught me what I needed to love myself as a daughter of the Most High God and all my brothers and sisters that I am here to serve. I believe that love and charity can transform any broken heart. I know that it was love that sent me to earth and that the pure love of Christ will get me back to my Heavenly Father.

The Savior always taught by example, He was baptized, He healed the sick, He tended to the poor, He loved those who hated Him, He prayed for those who crucified Him. No matter what interpretation you make from the scriptures, the Savior's example has always been a clear message on how He would want us to act. I try to be an example of my faith in Jesus Christ, to let what I do speak louder than what I say. I try to love and forgive the way the Savior would. I feel He wants His disciples to be the example He set. So I live my life that way.

But by praying to our loving Father in Heaven and asking him for things, we can get help (sometimes immediate help!) with whatever we are going through.

It is a difficult thing in this world today to know who you are, to find yourself. It has been said that one of the basic needs of humanity is a feeling of importance. Everybody wants to be wanted, and everyone needs to be needed. "Tell me how you get your feeling of importance and I'll tell you who you are." Many of us spend our whole lives searching in the deep, dark chambers of our soul for something that, in fact, we already possess: to feel the redeeming love of the Lord Jesus Christ. That is all we need to find ourselves, nothing else. The Savior taught, "Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."

I believe this year if I had to choose one of the most valuable teachings of Jesus that has blessed my life, it would be the power of the Atonement. Forgiveness and repentance is a powerful thing. When I would think about the atonement, I mostly applied it to my own sins, and how through my own repentance, I can be healed and saved. But I now realize it's more than that. When I feel so much pain and sorrow because of a wrong that has been done to me, when I have had no choice in the events that are now changing the course of my life. When someone has hurt me so deeply I feel as though I can not breath again, I know that the Savior can heal me. I have experienced what it means to have a complete change of heart. I know what it means to feel pain one minute and instantly feel peace the next. I know what it means to love those who have wronged me and to see the good in them.
The litteral power of the Atonement is more real to me than ever before. I know that repentance is a daily thing, because when I repent I feel closer to the Savior, I understand who He is better and I appreciate His sacrifice more and more.

The blessing of the Lord's Atonement blesses my life continually. Often times we think of the Lord's Atonement when we need to repent or thinking about the resurrection. While I am eternally gratefull for the Lord's help in both of these areas, I know that it applies to all aspects of our lives. The Lord has told us that he will give us "Rest unto our Souls". This image helps me understand that when we are struggling with issues in our lives, typically it's our sould that are struggling, the Lord can provide rest. He suffered so much so that he knows how to help us in our time of need. I am grateful for that and know that he has helped me through very difficult trials in my life.

The Savior wants us to come to Him. To do this, we must repent. Everyone can change from habits and ways that are against the Savior's teaching to living righteously. Not only can this give us hope for ourselves to be able to follow Christ, but it can change the way we see others. We need to forgive others, and realize that they are on the path of change, also. Maybe they are ahead or behind us, but everyone is there. This helps us have compassion for others, and love others as the Savior taught us.

One of the teachings of the Savior that has influenced me greatly is of forgiveness. The Lord taught His ancient disciples to forgive "seventy times seven." I know this is hard to do sometimes. Especially when it involves somone or something that we care strongly for. I know that with the help of the Savior, we can forgive all men, no matter what they have done. The Savior even asked his own father to forgive the roman soldiers when He said, "forgive them, for they know not what they do." As the Savior of the world was on the cross dying, He still cared about the men who were His executioners and forgave them for their actions. Another important point that I want to point out is that we need to forgive ourselves. We can't just forgive others. We need to forgive ourselves to help ourselves be able to move on. It is hard and I find it hard to do sometimes, but we need to forgive ourselves so we can be completely happy in this life.

"But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:" (Matthew 6:3). When I was young I thought that we did you things to accomplish the activity: to mow someone's grass because the grass was long, or do the dishes because they were dirty. But I have learned that the real reason for our service is to bless the lives of the people in need. I have tried to change my life so that I can serve without being in a place to be noticed for it, and I feel a genuine love for those people and for my God. This is more than enough for me. I will always try to serve in the way the Lord describes.

Matt answered…
For me every thing the Savior taught and did revolved around his love for us and his desire to Save us from ourselves. Universal, unconditional, true love is the principle around which I build my life. An important part of this is that we, as people, can never judge someone who we love. We should leave all judgment to God. When God judges it is to build and to lift. When people judge the opposite is true. In my youth I learned that when you judge someone you might as well cut them with a knife or punch them in the face. I was pretty frequently the target of such judgment. My reaction was initially the same as most people, which is very not Christ-like. Not surprisingly this only made my pain deeper and more sensitive. It was only when I realized that when I love my enemy, he becomes my friend that my pain ceased to be a source of sadness. Many of my old "enemies" still don't consider me a friend, but I do everything in my power to see them as someone who God loves, and if God loves them, how could I hate them.

The story of the Prodigal Son really gets me. The thing is, I am the prodigal son in this story. I am the person who, returning to God after however long I've spent far from him, feels completely unworthy of His love. "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you and am no more worthy to be called thy son."
And then what does the Father do? What will Christ do when we meet Him? He brings a ring, a cape, shoes to wear, for "he that was lost is found and he that was dead is alive again."
I've spent most of my life hating myself. Hating that I couldn't wrestle well enough, hating that I didn't have enough friends. Hating that I never felt like I was good enough. To be loved.
Our Savior's greatest teaching he also backed up with his actions: Love. Christ loved me enough to die for me while I was yet a sinner. His love is completely unconditional, and, like our love, is based on a hope: Christ died for us because He knows us. He knows that we are nothing. But he also knows perfectly that we are his siblings and can be His sons.
And the way to become His sons and to feel his love is, like he himself commanded, to "be baptized of water and of the Spirit."
God loves us. So we should try to love ourselves a little better every day.

I have been very interested in the Savior's teachings about Charity. I have been trying to develop greater charity in myself. As a young mother, I am constantly learning lessons about being long-suffering, slow to anger, etc. While I still have miles to go in developing my skills in patience and charity, it helps me to remember the Savior's teachings when I am dealing with my children. After reading in 1 Corinthians Chapter 13 about charity, I decided to take one element at a time and really focus on it for a day or two. "Charity suffereth long, and is kind charity envieth not charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things." verses 4-7 Some days are easier than others, but I am growing closer to my Savior, and developing more love for my children, my spouse, and all those around me.

Lately it has been the example He set when He washed the Apostles feet. He being the Greatest was still so ever humble to kneel before His Decsiples and wash their feet. To Him though he didn't have to think twice about losing any pride or having to humble, because he already was. He wasn't lowering his standards, He was raising ours. He showed us that anyone that is in a leadership position is never greater than those whom he leads.
Being in the military I see many give way to pride because of their rank and position. They think because their rank is above anothers they can be more rude and condescending. They are the ones that I feel sorry for because "power" and "authority" are only illusions. They would rather have the respect of their rank and not of whom they are as a person.
Jesus showed us that we can have both but it must be earned. I know that none other has ever existed that is greater than Jesus. He is the Son of God and I worship him as such. I don't mind giving Him the recognition He deserves because He has shown me how to become like Him. He has shown me how to love others no matter what or where my position in the line of leadership or follower is. He has shown me what I need to do to return to live with Him and Heavenly Father, again.

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now, herewith, saith the Lord of of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it" (Malichi 3: 8,10). The Lord wants to bless us with a blessing which "there shall not be room to receive it." "Prove me now herewith," he implores! The many blessings I've received by following this injunction are to numerous to recount, but one of the most remarkable comes to mind.
It was always my desire to return to graduate school and earn my MBA degree. After disposing of my business, I had the time to do just that. I was accepted into a prestigious business school and had the necessary funds for tuition and living expenses. However, four months after gradation and no job offer in sight, our money was running low. With only $400 left in the bank, I knelt down in fervent prayer. As if I need to, I told the Lord I had been faithfull in paying my tithing and gently reminded him of his promised blessings. The next day, I received a letter from one of my aunts. In her letter, she said she had a strong impression that I was in need of finances and enclosed was her check for $1,000. My wife and I were taken aback at the unexpected and generous gift. We fell to our knees in prayer, and with tears in our eyes and a choked-up voice, thanked the Lord with all our hearts. Never was I so greatful and appreciative of his answer to my prayers and his blessings upon me that day.
But there's more to this story! My accountant called and said he had made a mistake on my tax return and large refund was now due me. And there is stll more. During the next few weeks, a lucrative job offer was received. Is there any doubt the Lord responds to our faith with his promised blessings?

The Savior exemplified love for everyone. He held no prejudice according to people's background, where they came from, or how they lived their life. He loved everyone. He saw everyone for who they really were; a child of God. His example has had a huge influence in my life. It has taught me to look at people as children of God, nothing more, nothing less. This has allowed me to come to know many amazing people that I may not have given a second thought to otherwise. The Savior love us all very personally and knows who we really are.

The one that has had the most impact on my life can be found in 1 Corinthians 134-8
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind charity envieth not charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her bown, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Charity never faileth but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail whether there be tongues, they shall cease whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
The second greatest commandment the Saviour taught us is to "love our neighbors as ourselves." Have you ever felt bad when helping an other person? I know I haven't. I believe that Jesus is love. He is the perfect example of how we should be towards ourselves and each other. When we are Christ-like, we enjoy blessings of happiness and spiritual growth.

Love one another as I have loved you. We all go through our own storms in life. It is only the Lord that can truly understand all our struggles, pain and weaknesses. We can not always see the storm that one may be going through, but if we just love all as our Savior and Redeemer does us; then we will be able to be the true saints that the Lord has sent us here to become. We will be able to grow closer together and strengthen each other and each day becoming more like our precious Savior, Jesus Christ. If we could all learn to love as the Lord does, evil could not exist here on this earth.May we spend less time judging and more time loving and uplifting each other, helping each other turn our weaknesses over to the one and only that can truly turn them into strengths.

I'm imperfect, as we all are. I've fallen many times during my membership in the church, but through repentance have found my way back on the straight and narrow path. I had to really understand the meaning of repentance and all that was required of me in the process.
One of my greatest blessings in living the commandments of the gospel, and changing my heart in true repentance and obedience , was to finally receive my endowments in the Washington, DC temple in September of 2010. It was a long and difficult journey - one in which I thought would never come to pass. I'm so grateful for the Atonement and for a loving and wonderful Bishop who believed in me and helped to get me back on the path of righteousness. I'm also grateful for such wonderful friends and family who were there to support me along the way.

Matthew 5-7, the Sermon on the Mount. I believe that these are indeed inspired teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If we do the best to live these basic principles, our lives are not so complicated, and we become better people.
