What blessings have come through your faith in Jesus Christ?

  • In June 2009 I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. The treatment and prognosis were dependent on the actual cause of the cirrhosis and it would be about six weeks of testing before we would have an answer, treatment and prognosis. During this period I received a priesthood blessing that promised me that i "would be made whole" and make a full recovery. We understood the "full recovery" part and felt comforted, but we were a bit perplexed by "made whole" Eventually the diagnosis came, Alpha1 Antitripsyn Deficiency. We were told that a liver transplant was the only treatment and I would need one within two years. At 45 being told that I might not live more than two years was hard to accept. I received another priesthood blessing desiring hope, comfort and understanding. This blessing was very different from the first, it promised trials, pain and sorrow. It admonished me to "lean on the Savior" for strength and comfort and I would receive the promised blessings in my "very hour of need" according to my faith. Over the next two years I would think back on these blessings in times of turmoil and try to put my faith in Christ. This always brought feelings of peace and comfort and being lifted from the depths of despair. Following Mothers Day 2011 i was admitted to the hospital for the 28th and final time. My body began failing one organ after another, I was at the top of the transplant list. Days and then weeks passed with no news. I began to spend more and more of my time unconscious. Despite my grave circumstances my faith was now fully focused on the Savior and I was at peace. By May 31st I had became very aware of my mortality and knew that I was near the end of this life. Then in the "very hour of need" came word that an appropriate liver was available. Just after midnight I received the new liver. I had been made whole. It was my faith in Jesus Christ that carried me through this trial and brought about the many blessings I received. Show more

  • Our little family's world was shaken when our son was born with severe, intractable epilepsy. He has since received a surgery that has healed him, however for 15 months we watched as he seized 20-40 times a day, and regressed developmentally. There were many times that we teetered on the brink of hopelessness. However, it was at those times that a prayer, a scripture, or a visit from someone would remind us of the divinity and power of Jesus Christ. He who calmed the winds and waves during his mortal life could calm our hearts. He who knows everything could help us know how to deal with the realities of our son's illness. Show more

  •  Believing that Jesus Christ is my Savior has brought me a lot of comfort throughout my life. I try to keep in mind how the Bible describes his life as being full of service to others. He performed so many miracles to bless and uplift other people. I believe that he has not changed at all in the past 2000 years I believe that he still performs miracles in the lives of those who love him. I believe this because I have seen miracles in my life. There have been times when my future seemed so bleak that I wasn't sure I wanted to keep going, but I have always found peace through prayer, and I believe that this peace is only possible because of Jesus Christ. The Old Testament prophet Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would carry our griefs and sorrows, and I have felt that in my life as I have prayed for strength to make it through the hard times in my life. Because of Jesus Christ, I have been able to feel joy even when I felt like nothing was going my way, and that joy has seen me through some very lonely days. Show more

  • I was out of work for almost a year. We were praying and searching the internet for me a job. One day I was feeling really down and I went down on my knees to pray to Heavenly Father. I said" Heavely Father you know what jobs are out there in the world that I would be able to do, I am putting my trust in You to find me the right job and I am not going to worry about it anymore. It was not even 2 weeks went by that my husband was looking on the internet for jobs and He told me about the job at John Deere. When he told me about it, I said "That is the job I am going to get." Not even a week went by they called me in for testing and interview. To make a long story short, I got the job. I thank Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ everyday for my very great fortune. Show more

  • My parents divorced when I was three years old, and dad got custody of my little sister and me. He remarried not too long after, and I had a stepmother that didn't like me at all! I lived with my grandparents for a couple of years or so, and then later with an aunt and uncle, but eventually ended up back with my dad and stepmother. Life was hard growing up. I joined the Church at the age of 30, and realized that I had some pretty hard feelings for my stepmother and my dad. I knew I needed to forgive, and prayed for help, but it didn't seem to happen. After some time, I had the distinct feeling that I needed to write a letter to my parents on a regular basis. I realized that they were getting up there in years, so I started writing them weekly, just telling them about our week and what was going on in our lives. I never received a reply, but that didn't seem to bother me, I just kept on writing as it had become a habit. After a few years of writing, my stepmom died suddenly through a fall on Thanksgiving day. My dad told me how much she had looked forward to and enjoyed the weekly letters. It was then that I really understood that those letters weren't really for her, but for me... For through them, I had learned to forgive. Sometimes we may not understand the "why" of things we feel we should do until later, but if we have faith in Jesus Christ and follow His promptings, we will always be blessed! Show more

  • One of the most amazing blessings is my perspective. I know that we were with God before we were born, and that this life is not the end. Our life on earth is a time to prepare to meet God. Having this beautiful view of the bigger picture comforts me everyday. Because I am going into medicine I am frequently in the hospital. I've seen death and the impact it has on loved ones. I have been blessed with comfort and peace knowing that they are not gone forever. When I was little my younger brother passed away after a fight with cancer. I could never allow such a thought as that I could never see him again to enter into my mind. The clear perspective the gospel brings is brilliant light that cuts through the smoke of doubt and fear. I know I will see my younger brother again, that this life is not the end. Show more

  • My favorite scripture in the New Testament is John 16:33 that reads "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." My faith in Jesus Christ has brought me to the knowledge that he lives and is the Savior of the world. He suffered all my sins and heartaches, he committed the ultimate sacrifice and died for me, and he rose from the grave; he overcame the world. Because I know this, I know that I can be forgiven for all my mistakes, all my sins, and return to live with my Heavenly Father and His Son. My faith has blessed me with peace and with the knowledge, that even when I stumble and fall, my Savior will always be there to help me stand back up. Show more

  • One of the biggest blessings I have received through my faith is my family. As I have worked to fulfill my church callings and pray regularly I have noticed my family has began to come unto God. Eight years ago my husband, parents and a few Aunts and Uncles were non-members. As I continued to do the best I could do, family members started asking questions and things began to change. My husband was babtised. A year later three grandchindren were babtised, then my parents an Aunt and Uncle, and a daughter-in-law with her sister and her sisters children. Several family members became reactivated and one has gone on a mission. I can see the gospel at work all around me. What joy I have. I have truely seen many blessings and know there will be more. • When I first got out of high school, I had little to no idea what I was going to do with my life. My mom really wanted me to go to a church college, but I was convinced that attending BYU was the absolute last thing I wanted to do, for various reasons. My senior year, I'd taken a Robotics class, and I thought I might like that, but wasn't sure. Then I visited my friend at BUY-Idaho. During my short time there, I realized I liked the campus, but it didn't have a robotics program, so I wasn't going. Or, so I thought. As we wandered through the science and technology building, we nearly ran into a man coming down the stairs. He stopped and asked if he could help us find anything. I told him that I wanted to know if there was a program similar to robotics here. He just smiled, pulled out his keys, and led us back up the stairs. "Let me show you Robotics," he told me. Turns out, we just happened to have bumped into none other than the head of the Computer Science department, the culminating senior project of which was the making of robots. It was exactly what I was looking for. About a year later, after taking several programming and other computer classes, I decided that Computer Science really wasn't what I wanted. By then, I'd started a job at the math tutoring lab, giving one-on-one and group tutoring sessions for other students, and I'd grown to really love teaching. So eventually, that became my major. Math Education, with an English Ed minor since I love writing and grammar so much as well. Now, training to be a teacher is something that I could technically have done at, say, community college back home. But I know that the Lord wanted me at BYU-I, and I have seen many blessings come as a result of that choice. I have made lifelong friends, I have matured more than I ever thought possible, and I have stayed close to the gospel. I am grateful for the prayers that I know my mother must have been praying for me at that time. Show more
